  2. frickin sweet! by the way, gotribe, the proposal to remove the old medians involves replacing them with more minimal medians, sans the big beautiful trees. That's what appears to be in this rendering.
  3. wow, this is pretty exciting! Like many of us, I hadn't read this thread because I had no idea what the subject line was all about. I can attest to the overcrowding at NYC area airports and I've sworn off air travel to and from that city. Thankfully, we're close enough to bus, train, drive from Cleveland to NYC, but it's too bad for anyone who isn't! I'd never thought about what Newark's congestion meant to the future of air travel at Hopkins. So, good for us!

  6. Well, it's the first time in Cleveland that an organization (UCI) is guaranteeing revenues for CityWheels. I see this being a model that will be replicated throughout Cleveland and the region. Other UC institutions, City of Cleveland, CSU, Downtown hotels and office buildings will want these in their garages for convenience and cost reasons. The individual cars in Ohio City and Tower Press (I actually didn't remember this one!) were not paying for themselves, so until the program gains momentum, it looks like this is the model to go with.

    I've seen the possibility along Hamilton & Lakeside too B12. Barring some major economic shift in the region, though, I don't think that'll happen for a while. I think we're more likely to see Superior and places like Tyler Village thrive before things push north. For now, it seems like a fairly active industrial district and goodness knows we need the jobs, so I can live with that!

  9. I agree with 8shades. Something like that to shake up the monotony is a nice thing. Of course, it can be entirely distasteful if done wrong, but hey, you've gotta take some chances! As for how useful this will be... I don't know how much it will affect thinking inside the Circle. I know it was brought on by years of stagnation in thinking "big" and creative thinking...see PBL's sharp criticisms from last year that basically called for bringing back the hookers and adult book stores! I can see how this is constructive...the study...but like Wim, I'm not sure how much people/institutions inside the Circle will buy into it. If nothing else, it can be seen as yet another refreshing look at what "could be." Maybe we'll get a few new outside investors looking into the district. Or maybe a conservative local developer (I can think of a few!) will decide it's time for them to step it up and make a statement in a high-profile area. I can get down with that! As long as it translates into thoughtful new development.

  11. I wonder who/what that's a reference to. If it's a City street, it could be someone the City wanted to honor. Or perhaps a historic reference to an old street that used to exist there?

I know, all of these places have great potential, but much as with some parts of NYC, you can walk on a beautiful block where the residents have really taken care of their property and then get to the next block and find abandonment and neglect. I believe in these neighborhoods and their residents, but you [LCS] really have to just spend some time on the ground over here to find your spot...especially if you're buying. If you rent, like I do, you can just scope a place out...get a feel for your neighbors and the surroundings...and then buy nearby if it suits you. If you're buying without the advantage of that foresight, it's a tough call! I've got my money on Ohio City, Tremont, Detroit Shoreway, Edgewater, Shaker Square, and University Circle (south Glenville) right now. Little Italy's great, but a little to collegiate at present. Goodrich/Kirtland Park has great potential and should be dirt cheap right now. Downtown and the Flats shouldn't be overlooked, but again, it's all about your lifestyle. There are other great neighborhoods in Cleveland, but this is my short-list!
  14. I'd much rather see development there too, but I'm not hearing anyone clamoring to get in on that deal just yet. Maybe they can have a reversion clause where after a number of years, the park will revert to a developable piece of land. In the meantime, there's plenty of land on the west side of 25th, as well as north of this land and south of the bridge. A park could help spur development on those parcels.
  15. whoa, that's an entirely different layout than what I expected. I was wondering what they'd do to reconcile for a very busy Superior Avenue and that huge warehouse building on the north end of the site. Looks like more potential loft buildings fronting Superior... but I'm still curious to see how they work the transition from that stark wall on Rockwell down to single family townhomes.
  16. Hey, that was the impression I got from the article anyway...so hooo-ray! From my understanding to this point, the first groundbreaking was going to be at 13th & Superior, so this is in line with that. When should we show up with our shovels?

  19. Trust that there are plans and/or active interest in about every square foot of land in and around University Circle. That's not to say that anything will necessarily happen with this land anytime soon, just that more than a few people recognize its potential and the need to develop up and out over the next several years.

    Seriously! I walk down that way from CSU at late hours and the lights are off half the time! Even on the opening night of Ingenuity! Didn't they just redo this whole corridor about 10 years ago?

    Do you mean to ask which ones will add a significant number of residents? Some of those places (Westown, Old Brooklyn) are already very solid residential areas. Others, like University Circle and the Flats, should add significant numbers, but won't have their numbers.

    ^You know, I asked this very question of the ECTP's public relations person (Danielle Willis) and was promised a mailing, but never got it! I'll have to follow up on that. I got the impression, however, that she was only sending me ECTP-related stuff, even though my question involved the entire system and its third-world station waiting environments.
  23. wow, mrnyc, you're really stretching some of those "ballpark" comparisons! I see where you're going, but I don't want our relocators to get the impression that upon landing in Slavic Village that they'll find a bunch of hipsters running around in designer clothing and a cafe on every corner! just a quick note (I'll write more later) that I lived in Fort Greene for 3 years and chose Ohio City as my closest comparable. I'm very satisfied!
