  1. From Crain's: Investment firm doubles its space By SHAWN A. TURNER 6:00 am, September 4, 2006 Cleveland investment management firm Wasmer, Schroeder & Co. has doubled its office space in a move to Eaton Center. The firm now has a 4,000-square-foot space, an increase from the 2,000-square-foot office it had worked out of inside the Bradley Building downtown. Wasmer Schroeder is looking to add two workers to its four-person Cleveland staff by the end of the year, partner John Majoros said. The firm also has an office in Naples, Fla.
  2. From Crain's: Better land management goal of new city division By JAY MILLER 6:00 am, September 4, 2006 The city of Cleveland wants to consolidate its scattered real estate operations into a new Real Estate Division in the Department of Community Development — an action the Jackson administration believes will make it easier for businesses and developers to execute projects in the city. The goal of the reorganization is for the city to better manage and market residential and industrial properties it holds for resale to homebuilders and developers. The new division also would consolidate the city’s existing property management functions and would be responsible for creating a land-use plan for the city. The seeds for the new office were planted in a position paper Mayor Frank Jackson published during his successful 2005 election campaign. In that paper, then-candidate Jackson observed that the city bounces from one city department to another those businesses looking for a building to lease or real estate to purchase. The end result of the runaround is to push those employers to the more welcoming suburbs. Read More...
  3. Yeah, but that's still a few years off. I'm still crossing my fingers for lower Euclid and E. 4th once the ECTP is wrapped up. And then, yes, of course the suped up WHD.
  4. Well, this just pisses me right off... Fashion retailer H&M to expand 3 more stores to open in NE Ohio Wednesday, September 06, 2006 Janet H. Cho Plain Dealer Reporter H&M, the chic-yet-cheap Swedish fashion retailer that is providing the entire wardrobe for all 150 people involved with Madonna's "Confessions" tour, from the backup dancers to the lighting engineers, has announced plans to open three more Cleveland-area stores in coming months. More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com
  5. Who thinks H&M would have been (would be) a good fit around here somewhere? Instead of or in addition to opening new stores in Beachwood, Strongsville and North Olmsted (yawn!)... you'd think they might try to gain a Downtown presence... (grumble, grumble)
  6. I was at Touch later on in the evening for what I heard was an "after party" for the event. It didn't get rolling until after midnight and the djs were good, but the attendance was a little poor. Looks like it was pretty good during the day, though!
  7. Great shots MayDay! I got to take some of my own last year, but didn't make it to this year's event due to my Saturday class... And yes, who keeps spreading this rumor about Riverview being scheduled for demo? I've never heard that and I'm in "the field," so to speak.
  8. heck yeah! I know it'll come...I'm just anxious and sometimes post in haste. I do agree, however, that we need some 24 hour eateries Downtown. I swear the first one of these will make a killing. So will the first bodega for the neighborhood that stays open past midnight! (or 6 o'clock for that matter)

yeah, all the uncertainty that developed during the preseason has caused my optimism to waver... that, and we've got one hell of a division! Still, I think it should be an exciting season. No one should take us lightly, as we'll probably be a much more explosive team - both offensively and defensively - this year than last.
  10. Ran around the site today as part of my training for the Towpath Marathon (http://www.towpathmarathon.net/) and was pleased to see 3 more houses capped off (but not yet inhabitable) and foundations for several more in the ground. Included in this group are three more in the row in Musky's last picture, as well as the foundations for the block just north of these houses, which will be a different building type. Site work continues elsewhere and it's getting easier to picture the whole thing materializing!
  11. but we already have lots of night clubs downtown! how about some retail Ari???
  12. so it's your fault they closed!
  13. well, I don't know anything about any of these places that isn't in the above articles, but I'm glad to hear the news! A couple side notes, though. We have a pizza place around the corner on Prospect...Vincenza's, but they really only cater to the lunch crowd. To my knowledge, they're never open for dinner, which is a big no-no in my book, as I walk down Prospect after work (6pm) and after school (10pm) and nobody's open for a quick bite to go but Subway! So, this pizza place may fill a dinnertime niche, but is it the type to sell me a slice to go? These two spots may not end up competing, so I'm not yet worried about Vincenza's market share... Next, I'll echo what some of you already said... where's my merchandise retail? I know there's plenty of room left with 7 more vacancies, but let's get it rollin! Daddy needs a new pair of shoes!
  14. This project is obviously being watched with bated breath by many more than just us nerds here on UO. It's among the most significant and hyped new construction projects in Downtown Cleveland in decades and is the only one that is anywhere near breaking ground right now. Permits are routine, but they're a big step!
  15. I'm thinking it's a church steeple on Euclid Ave...the south face has a ladder in one of the upper windows. I'm not sure of the name or the intersection, so I'll have to do a little investigating. then again, I could be waaaay off!
  16. nice! great stuff KJP!
  17. Blinker posted it here: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php?topic=2573.30
  18. I don't recall this Cafe Med...anyone else?
  19. agreed...and why would volpe need to be planning streetscape two blocks away from the the project's footprint? especially on a block that is so built up already? bad volpe, bad.
  20. I dislike the "notch," but like the cage and the remainder of the Euclid facade just fine. I'm fine with a total rebuild if that's what must happen, though. I'm not about to chain myself to this one like it looks like I'm going to have to with Ameritrust!
  21. That's where I see a lot of opportunity for the northeast part of Downtown. Further down the road, it could be built out as a residential quadrant and have parks and schools and such...all inside the innerbelt and within walking distance of everything Downtown.
  22. Ok, first question: Is the following map still active? If so, the block I am most concerned about...between Superior and Chester...is maintained. Here, the sidewalks on both sides of the street are plenty wide and the only thing the medians create a barrier for is people running across the street, mid-block. As far as a pedestrian environment, this is BY FAR one of the most friendly blocks Downtown, in my opinion. The stop signs are especially nice...even though many drivers just blow right through them... Next, I really don't think there would be any attempt to save these trees. The article, whether accurate or not, says "cut down the trees." And they didn't salvage any of the mature trees from CSU's portion of the Euclid Corridor, so why/how would they preserve these? It's apparently very expensive to do...even if just moving them around on-site. So, we'd be setting ourselves back 30 years in terms of tree growth and I think we could be better served by incorporating some sort of promenade into the existing median. I'm all for wider sidewalks on the blocks north of Superior, but is the removal of the median really the only option?
  23. There will be an image, along with an article in the debut edition of Full Circle, the magazine for University Circle Incorporated!
  24. From the above site: New Development Proposed for West 28th and Detroit A Place For Us Development Inc., a non-profit business, has joined with TEG (Thomas E. Gillespie) Properties Inc. to pursue a new housing development, Detroit-Superior Properties Lofts at the corner of W. 28th Street and Detroit Avenue. Phase I of the plan, which includes eight rental apartments and retail, is underway by TEG Properties. Phase II allows for 57 residential market rate for-sale condominiums and a projected 1.5 parking spaces per resident (subject to change by project design or market conditions). The project’s design is by Lowenstein and Durante Architects. Presales of the Phase II units is expected to begin in summer 2006, with construction planned to commence in November. [i won't hold my breath!] The project is being touted by the developer as a "first-of-its-kind urban facility to serve both as a multigenerational home for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and those supportive persons of such diversity."
