Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
^ Exactly! And the way you describe the scene... It makes me again so surprised that such a scene could have occurred here given the current lack of exposure to it. But it is that lack of exposure of familiarity that leads us to the current lack of rail environment. Bad cycle. Can we overcome?

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Trust indeed. Perhaps they thought they could squeak by on the back of Hillis and playing a side and short game. Problem is... the Bills came to play as bad as they've been and such could not work. I'll bet if he'd thrown the ball down field he'd have had at least two more interceptions. Field and weather conditions could have contributed to the fumbles.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
^ Exactly....and that amazes me because it was not that long ago in the bigger picture.... and travelers/commuters knew it well. For some I speak with today the idea seems an impossible unfathomable task. Just a funny thought... I was in Tower City Saturday and watched the kiddie choo choo trail roll around throughout the place and thought that this may be the closet we get!

Good observation. Another observation I had today was that Jake D. is terrible.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
I was thumbing through old photos today of our cities. Rail hints are all over the photos and I thought that based on the pictures, I had to ask myself.... "Did this ACTUALLY happen here?...WAS there such a time...and did people actually know how to utilize rail lifestyles?"...and with that in mind, and based on the mentality of many towards transportation these days that has them clueless as to rail, one would think that the lifestyles portrayed in the photos I was viewing occurred thousands of years ago...and not just a lifetime and a half or so. How so much has changed in what actually, in the big picture of time, has been a short time!

Scrappy Cleveland
The buildings that are decaying are some solid looking structures. It is good to see this side of the urban story too. Thanks again for taking us places we don't see, bad or good.

I was infuriated when Kasich used that word to describe us... I almost wrote a letter demanding a personal apology. People/politicians like him will never apologize because they have not the spine or balls to admit when they just might be wrong. Its all about them and what they want and think should be right for the whole world all the time...behaving like a bunch of grown up selfish little children. This attitude that has hijacked the party in recent years is what has so turned me off to his party, in general, on other issues that go far beyond. But I don't want to drag this off topic. Just saying, people like Kasich are always innocent and never make a mistake! I think I remember Morgan Freeman saying something like that about the prisoners in Shawshank.

I don't think it is really so much of an Ohio thing...although this certainly makes it look like it. I was indicating just that in several earlier posts when I was fuming..... Rather, I have gotten the feeling that a big part of this is a media that greatly under-provides the facts to the public. Its loyalty is to those who pay their bills/sponsors...and NOT to properly informing the public at large. We live in a political environment where some chose to alter the facts to fit their opinions, rather than alter their opinions to fit the facts. "Fair and Balanced" does not mean factual and accurate. But this is the norm for the mainstream media country-wide, though. If we had a truly "liberal media" as often as people like Rush spew we do, you'd be seeing this Kasich kills rail thing on expose shows and prints continuously, hammering him with hard core questions and demanding accountability, exposing the facts from fictions. When you don't have the right information disseminated, you get a poorly informed public at large. It leaves one's self to seek it out.... as it surely isn't coming to them from the boob tube media. Naturally, this is just my opinion!

Good start. So frustrating.....Maybe when the Iraqi Dinar re-evaluates there will be enough money in the global economy to stimulate a private development of this here and right a lot of wrongs. A friend of mine who is really familiar with this seems to think so. I am in no way in a knowledgeable position to explain it as he could though, but what he said really made sense, or so I'd like to believe. Its obvious we have no leadership, well informed minds or vision on this initiative from a Governor position. Just grasping at straws here. I have little clue about this currency thing.

Cleveland: Downtown Storefront Displays
Its all good. Please let's not use this thread (on items associated with this project) to argue or do the tip for tap thing. That was not my intent or the project's purpose. Anyone working with Cleveland Storefront Art who may post here, be it Joan or myself or another who may take a photo....simply post on here to report on what is being done and actually getting done. Granted, sometimes my reports are lengthy probably due to the enthusiasm I have for this project and what it can do, but not an invitation to seed the thread way off topic. I cannot avoid, 100% of the time, an instance where someone will not take what I have said in an incorrect manner.... as that seems to be the nature of such forums where the interaction of real person to person contact and inflection, lacks. Time spent on that could much better be spent if we can have volunteers step forward as we can assign plenty of tasks that need to be done. You or others who have an interest are welcome to join us if you can and are close enough to do so. Regards, R. Carillio Cleveland Storefront Art Thanks, and now back on topic of our regularly scheduled programming. ^ Oh, and thanks Doc. I know what a great help you have been. You were one of the ones who was essential in getting this off the ground. We can still use your fantastic cleaning efforts and may be able to get you in at more workable hours. Thank you for your support. We will contact you with opportunities.

The whole scenario makes me want to support what little rail we DO have even more, even if I have to stand out in freexzing weather waitj ng for Amtrak at 3:00 AM. Still, all the propaganda surrounding this is saying all is a dead deal for Ohio. HOW, when he is not technically even Governor yet, can this happen soooo quickly, after how long it has taken to build this campaign and all surrounding it? It seems really odd that since and while other states are salivating at the chance to get this money, we suddenly see a myriad of articles and press releases saying that they will get it. Is there no time for appeal? Discussion, etc? It all seems odd and shady. It seems that All Aboard Ohio has indicated that its not over 'til its over...and we still see the press we are seeing....and the article above, appears just now? What in the HELL is going on? Yes, I see it now...while other states develop rail and move forward environmentally, socially, and economically..... and oil prices increase, Ohio markets and people are bypassed leaving the state in a downward decline. That thought is sickening. For goodness sakes, there was more of a media covered and noticeable effort in Cleveland, for example, to keep LeBron James here and build a casino. The priorities really seem mixed up.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Agreed....and add to that...so should the media we lack, had done. But the next question is where do we go from here? Its all certainly worth fighting for.
-
Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
^^ I do find it odd that since other states are salivating at this money...that suddenly, in an instant, press releases say the project is dead. Government has never worked so fast! ^ And yes, I would think his own party would have to look at this and ask "What the HELL are you doing, man!!!???"
-
Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
^ I know, I was just reacting rhetorically. You are right. I love so many things about Ohio as well.....naturally, culturally, etc.. But this decision is a real nightmare. It seems despite the valid information available to skeptics, they have either not had the proper information delivered to them via mainstream sources, or they remain in denial and are too stubborn to see the forest through the trees. I also fear that the runaway road addiction in this state will eventually lead to destroying the many things I love about it in the first place. :-( This could begin a whole new discussion too.

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
So now we have to spend money on highways we're forced to use. Where is the proof no one would use this?
-
Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
How will his supporters try and defend this one? What gloss over rationale will we see? It seems to me they're more interested in "being right" than actually doing what is right. You just handed over $400 million handed to you on a silver platter to other states! Retarded. I am truly beginning to think there is something mentally wrong with this guy. I have a guest here from Australia who has been following this and she finds this utterly jaw dropping insane!

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
^ A--F****ng--Men!!! Is there anything that can be done to show some backlash...letter writing, anything? Or do the rail supporters just lay down and take this up the caboose?

Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb...and severely lacking in vision is he who's first call of duty is to deny this state what it needs the most! Add another reason we can be viewed as bass ackwards! I see it now, while others gaze out of the train windows, asking... "What's that place all the rail service bypasses with so many people and metro areas?" Oh...its called "SLOW-hio!" HEEEEEEEEEE HAAAWWWWWWW!!!! Oh well.....Look at the bright side!!!! We'll have these terrific casinos that will save the day and retain lots of residents and bring in droves of tourists (too bad they won't be taking the train that doesn't come here!) Meanwhile, I think I am going to start to look elsewhere for permanent settlement. This man has single handedly embarrassed and denied this state big time and he's not even technically Governor yet. What an abomination; a nightmare! So just like that... This is over and dead?

Cleveland: Downtown Storefront Displays
Oh for goodness sakes alive....I am not self pitying! I was merely stating a fact that the interest is small, or at least seems to have been lately.... on the forum regarding this project. I can post posts that are not at all personal attacks on anyone....decorate them with all the smileys in the world and STILL, someone has to remark like this! (sigh) Funny though, how that tiny inane comment gets an immediate response..... and the project update itself does not. That is just amusing! And HTS121... Thank you for the good comment and keeping things on topic. We appreciate that.

Ted: "This is a one time opportunity for Ohio to establish vital infrastructure in rail service while improving the freight system," Strickland said. "If this money is returned, it will never be available to Ohio in the future and, as I've said, I believe developing a passenger rail system will bypass our state." That's exactly correct! And how will Ohio look in the eyes of the nation when it has so many major commerce centers, so may people/places, but virtually NO option other than car for the connectivity component needed in such centers and in between! All bypasses Ohio, is right, because it won't be on the itinerary. Sorry, but I could not be this blind or ignorant on the matter as Kasich if I stayed up all night studying for it! His decision marks a critical tipping point. One side, where we will take the next step into a better transportation future and all the benefits associated and that are severely needed.....or another, where we will show the nation that we are too stupid for our own good now and in the future for potential funding, and in the kinds of transportation options that make a place viable in which to live..... And hence...no wonder the mediocre image that this part of the Midwest often exudes that also has the "young people" Kasich says he wants to retain and to achieve dreams in Ohio, fleeing for places that seem to get it right! Again, this is a farse if he causes us to lose this opportunity and how in hell one man can impose his will on so many is nothing short of a dictator in his own right. Dammit this has me fuming!!! :whip:

Cleveland: Downtown Storefront Displays
Well, eventhough few at this forum seem to have much of an interest in this obvious and ongoing example of improving downtown vacant storefronts... I will still keep those who are interested informed. :-) Latest completions of cleaning facades/windows and adding a bit of color are The New York Spaghetti House, the "Green's" space at The Park Building---both decorated with a bit of color and art...Nothing spectacular but always an improvement over the former conditions. Also, one will be lit at night soon, (Park Building) and one will have more substance added (NYSH). Additionally, we have completed two windows as talked about above at the Halle Building with more to add, The Mona Lisa and The Goddess Of Speed! You can view photos at our Flickr site. Information about art and the artists can be obtained from the window sites or through our Flickr site. We will be adding the Halle photos soon. On a side note, if we have borrowed any photos from any UO'er and did not credit you for them, please let us know. All should be credited. I want to note that completed spaces are great examples of what kind of basic and simple things Cleveland can do to make noticeable improvements visually, even in tough times. While we often strive for the well meaning and well founded grandiose and wait for the super hero to come in and save the city for us, the smallest things get neglected and we may sometimes forget about what we can do as individuals to make differences. This is where we can all step up, be our own "super hero" to make small differences that in the bigger picture, make a big one collectively! I hope that completed spaces can serve as an example for exuding better storefront basic maintenance and the kind of civic pride that at least "keeps the front porch clean", even in bad times, so to speak! Thanks to Joan Smith for her ongoing ambition in being dedicated to this project which is gaining interest and popularity. Thanks to all cooperating properties as well for their help, and to DCA! Hope you appreciate what we're doing as volunteers stepping up. Here is the Flickr page for Cleveland Storefront Art window makeovers. http://www.flickr.com/groups/clevelandstorefrontart/ Regards, R. Ohio Intercity Rail (3C+D Line, etc)
My Train Of Thought This Morning! I looked out the window this morning at the arrival of glorious winter and just shook my head and thought.. "Wow....we sooooo need to expand rail options in this state as there are so many reasons WHY it needs to happen" Indeed, this is the kind of day I would definitely choose to leave a car at home and hop on a train and not have to worry about all the expenses associated with car ownership, as well as the dangers of driving in this kind of weather....all because of the dogmatic auto-driven ideology of a few people with the charge of this local yocal agenda now running our state! So many people, so few transportation alternatives makes Ohio look like a joke! Sorry, but it pisses me off that so many of us are forced to be a part of something (driving) we'd like to greatly reduce. And Kasich wants to bring jobs and keep people in Ohio? The dude needs to get a clue. More statewide fight seems to go up for getting casinos going that are arguably party to contributing to social dysfunction.... than all of the OBVIOUS socially, environmentally, and economic redeeming fruits that can blossom from rail! Absolutely, pathetically, and utterly ridiculous! Off I go into the white blue yonder. Thanks a lot Kasich and any others who are too blind, arrogant, vindictive, or self righteous to see the light! P.S. I love winter, but just not driving when it gets severe and I don't think a transportation mono-culture should cease the day because of it.
