  1. These are nice! Sometimes views from around this height present a whole new perspective. Because rather being on top of it all...you are submerged within and things look much denser, if that makes any sense.
  2. Yeah, like those of us who are a bit older experienced in downtown Cleveland. We traded it all for pretend cities. I may as well go to Disney World. On another note.....Don't forget...there will be a retail component coming to the Galleria Gardens Under Glass Learning center in latter September... Lots if unique items...much made from recycled material and local. Mixed Greens also us opening up there soon, as well as the effort to recruit a really classy thrift store that will sell anything you can possibly think of. Stuff will be presented professionally and clean...Just like a regular department store, but with garage sale prices! It will not look like a flea market etc, and will have a high end facade.
  3. Remember... Jerry Rice was around 42/3 when he finally retired. Steve Largent played until 36 and was fairly effective. (granted, they are exceptions) These other guys we're talking about are no Jerry or Steve, but being mid 30 does not automatically rule you out to play the game and be effective. If you take good care of yourself, you can last a long time. Where they have given up perhaps some of their physical vitality, they make up for with skill and brains...and such can take the youngsters to school. Not to mention their impact on the new players for the leadership component. Lots of fast young guys with no brains who cannot catch or run a decent pattern worth a lick! Braylon anyone? Look what the "poor old Celtics" did to the Cavs two times.
  4. Next thing you know they'll be offering service via kites!
  5. I see some of the usual sugarcoating/coddling/excusing/turning a blind eye to the inappropriate behavior is happening again! Its really laughable. Keep it up and watch The Parking Lot District go into the toilet. I won't even debate this anymore because it is pointless when people don't wake the "bleep" up and see it for what it is.

An oldie but goodie.... Still funny. Farting Preacher 1 Farting Preacher II - Fart Harder

IMO..The "anyways" thing, I am not seeing so much a grammar thing; rather, I notice it as a choice to say it that way as if it were some kind of fad to do so. (as in the alley Girl talk of the 80's) I never remember anyone puting the "s" at the end of it as I much as I have noticed in the past few years.

Here is a peeve: When people add an "S" to "anyway". There is no s required.
  9. Hmmm.... That could work!
  10. ^ I agree. When brick gets old and busted up, it still actually looks nice. The same cannot be said for asphalt.
  11. If you want to try something other than 4th street or the WD.....Try the new Flaming Ice Cube right on the square ("Cube on the Square!") in the Park Building.... Independent...freshly brewed coffee's (fair trade/organic)teas...great cd's and cards......great home made baked goods, soups, sandwiches, salads, and much more......all yummy, and a fantastic charming view of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument! Nice atmosphere while still in the process of decorating. Prices are very reasonable.
  12. Medical Museum... Interesting... I will have to check that out. Ok, impromptu...I am making up this request for some best kept secrets...... It can be in or near surrounds of the city... How about some "forgotten" streets in the city that actually still have some fairly nice housing....Maybe a bit different such as those behind East Blvd. Anywhere you would happen to drive by and say... "Hey, this is actually pretty nice" I think a street in Newburgh near Washington Park comes to mind...brick street...rather nice. While speaking of brick....How about any streets besides Murray Hill that are still brick... Any stone homes... How about any photos? Can anyone predict what neighborhood (besides the obvious ones we speak of) just might be a future focus for revitalization. That's the new assignment, kiddies! :-D
  13. Ok, we are working on some catchy slogans for cans and fliers.... UO members reach to the depths of your creativity and offer up your suggestions! I have searched for some catchy slogans to print on a flier and came up with some myself tweaked for Cleveland..... All can be used on a can.... "From the lake to the river....Let's keep Cleveland FREE of Litter!" "Our City Is Not Your Garbage Can...THIS is!" "Keep Cleveland Nice And Clean....Littering Makes us All Nasty And Mean!" "Cleveland is Bad To The Bone Because We're A No Litter Zone!" (Maybe a can decorated with Browns theme) "You Show a Small Mind...When You Litter All the Time!" "Don't Be A Tosser.....Put the trash in the can, man!" "Litter is NOT hip...Recycle Your ****!"
  14. Where is this House? Near Cincy? Many of these homes appear to be structurally solid....and worth renovation/restoration. I thought the city did have some sort of dollar for the land/house thing...and incentive that had a live for so long requirement. If not, great proposal and it may spur some people to restore these...No speculators or fly by night flippers, though.
  15. Good to see someone mentioning Seven Roses on Fleet.......Great little place in Slavic Village...and how about checking out St. Stanislaw church while near there and that little coffee shop and cafe open til 6 called "Shipley's" There is also a great visitors center over there that is near Mill Creek.. Slavic Village/Broadway Historical Center, or something like that. The Hungarian Museum and gift shop is nice and located in the Galleria. Open select hours during the day. The site is in a post above. Parma has a few places as well...and you may find some interesting places along Mayfield Rd. all the way to I-271.. I seem to remember seeing a few such places along that strip.
  16. ^ Great observation! My take: Developers in the early years realized this (see the myriad of maples/birches, sycamores, and many others planted along streets) and somehow, for many, it was a lost idea in recent years, especially in sprawl areas. Trescaping was an afterthought. Indeed, the right species will create a "tunnel look" down Euclid. For those who have seen streets like this, it is awe inspiring. Just a few simple advantages of proper treescaping.... Air is cleaner, noise is reduced, soil erosion reduced, water cleaner, backyard/urban friendly wildlife like birds, tree frogs, and more... have shelter and hence won't take refuge in structures..... Trees make the neighborhood feel cozy and safer and could even prevent drive by shooting bullets from hitting someone..... (a new urban recognized quality!) They prevent battering winds and heavy snow drift....add aesthetic value and color...keep places cool in summer thus contributing to reducing energy costs (see Arbor Day Foundation for such information) and can even maintain warmth in winter.....a free shelter in rain.... all free of charge. Positives outweigh any perceived but misconceived negative/ill-informed notions. Plant a tree today!
  17. This photo looks like the house was built for the car and the people were an after thought...as though the car speaks and says: This is my house here are my people" instead of...a person saying..."This is my house and these are my cars" I mean, which is the dominant species here?
  18. Incubators for bigger problems once they go home...IF they go home.

Often is the case that bio-phobic, short sighted...ecologically challenged and illiterate fools who are too lazy to deal with leaves because "they're messy"............ remove them...totally ignoring the fact that they provide property aesthetic value, clean water and air, reduce soil erosion, noise pollution......reduce wind battering, help with lowering utility bills, safe habitat for backyard friendly habitat (so they don't wind up in your chimney!) and a place to read on a hot summer day among a myriad of many other values...all doing this for FREE! They get removed from the city/townscape, but seldom replaced. Warren, Ohio is notorious for this...absolutely horrible tree maintaining/planting ethics. Check out Arbor Day Foundation for more reminders on the forgotten value of trees and why they're essential to one's very own existence. Damn me for having learned this, as I am the odd ball out among the fools who don't know and worse, don't want to know or learn...and when they refuse to open their minds and learn, they are fools in my book. Not you Tedolph... Just ranting outloud! I think you made a very good observation and I appreciate such an observation. Oh, and disease gets some...But this is when we really need to replant something. A tree's value far outweighs any perceived negative.
  20. ^ Ouch! TB holds nothing back! Straight to the point! :-o Well...that's good to bring out reviews like this one. It keeps writers to higher standards! And, I'm all for that! Betty White is funny, though...and at least Valerie B. is not some plastic Paris Hilton-like (now there is a good definition of "no-talent") figure all made up...what you see is pretty much what you get. I think I liked her from the One Day At A Time era so I have a sentimental spot for her. At any rate, good or not so good...maybe the show will cast some positive light over Cleveland and get people to actually want to check out the place....and maybe the show will improve in the eyes of those who are not impressed. Again, I rarely watch TV, but from what I saw, I would have to say I have seen worse....but I am not going to grant 5 stars either
  21. Good idea! Such can be started with the kind of comment I just made!
  22. Interesting... Are their plans to restore and make something of the building? Its a shame, as one would never realize its significance in this condition.
  23. I don't watch TV...hardly ever.....But what makes the show "garbage?" ..Other than the fact it is associated with the big entertainment conglomerates. (my personal peeve being a supporter of independent media)This is not a for or against... Just curious.
  24. This place is very clean, cheerfiul atmosphere...and the food was good. Reasonable as well. Nice atmosphere in this building and the immediate surrounds.
  25. Still love the above "reality" picture! Ha!
