  1. Isn't this a small sardine can plane? If so, is this the best to this destination?
  2. ^ Actually an amusing story.. But sad, really. I don't know what to do other than to promote the idea of customer demand via feedback. If more do that, then support the places like you do...we'd stand a good chance of change. Hey.. Pho in Asiatown is open later nights...even on weekends! For what its worth, even a city like Sydney, Australia... grand as it is...has much close at 5 and 6... Just the clubbie and trendy areas open a lot later... Btw...someone posted a nice video... Anyone here do this? Nothing is like being there, though!
  3. Many are freaking out. Please remain calm. there are many suggestions that will be shared on how to improve a possible regularly functioning event of this. Also, I agree.. More places need to remain open, because the last hour is usually a dead hour...and if you remain open until only 5, then your dwindling hour will be between 4 and 5... If you remain open until 8, then it will be between 7 and 8.. In other words, if more places remain open longer, then the customers who want to come at that hour will figure it out...and hence your slower hour will eventually keep getting pushed forward. However, since for so long and now, we have many who operate places and do not get this concept, they close too early and live by the suburban model/mindset that still assumes no one wants to be downtown, or is coming downtown. I will mention that The Flaming Ice Cube will be open until 8:00 PM now...so this offers a great place to eat at least during the week for now, that does not force you to go to 4th (not that it is bad)..and it has a great view of the S.E. quadrant of the square. I don't want/expect all 24/7 either because that produces a sick population of sleep deprivation disease (worse than lack of food... and worse in places like N.Y.) among other potential issues.... But geez.. Yes, more places need to remain open until 8-ish... or so, especially family oriented attractions, stores, etc.. Sure, they may not be stormed with business all at once, but when those who want to go at that time begin to discover it and places let it be known, then it can be a success. Write to businesses/attractions with your pledge of support and why they should remain open longer and perhaps it might illicit some mind opening and ideas for them to take on board.
  4. ^ Good point. I have yet to see any friendly public service reminders anywhere. The issue goes even deeper because we have a society addicted to so much junk food--which that sort of packaging is what makes up the majority of the crap spilling over in the cans. If we can get more people off the junk, a lessening of the problem could ensue. But that's another story.
  5. ^ I agree completely, and if I had a a buck for each time I went and cleaned up someone else's crap....organized clean-ups/solicited volunteers/made phone calls, etc. to clean up someone else's neighborhood, I'd be able to buy the Queen Mary. I am not looking to anyone to do anything except for those who live in a given area to be responsible for their own mess, or for those who are supposed to be doing their part...to do exactly that. So, how about being a volunteer at Edgewater? We could always use enthusiastic help like that. The trouble is that this does not seem to concern people as it really should, enough to get involved. They're oblivious. This is because of their own lack of understanding---or worse--unwillingness to learn---as to just how serious the problem is and how it is connected to so many others they may see as bigger. (Example: The old "this begets... that and that begets... this..etc", idea) I hope you will come to the presentation being planned for several block clubs to educate them on why this must be kept under control, how to prevent it and how much is costs us socially, economically, environmentally to leave it get out of hand. Better examples have to also come from city leadership as well to promote an anti-litter cultural mindset.
  6. Another quality player sent packing. This sport needs a salary cap. Smaller to mid-market teams will only occasionally compete without it, and be more of a farm system for places like New Yuck. Without such only compounds the pathetic product of poorly owned/managed teams like ours. Management is an abomination. Where is the fairness and sport in buying your way to a championship? The word "earn" is non-existent and sport, it is not. Welcome back to 70's Indians Baseball.
  7. Wait a minute...Anyone who smokes, (including myself at one time) punishes themselves...as well as others who have to accommodate the self indulgence against one's will. I don't walk up and fart in your face and expect you to like it/take it, so why should I have to smell your smoke, is my philosophy. Question is whether said smoker has the courage and honesty to admit that he/she is punishing themselves---or whether they remain in denial and side with the tobacco companies as through they (tobacco) are their benefactor and not a pawn of the tobacco companies which they (smokers) really are. Love the smoker arguments that simply have "no wind" to breathe on. Now back to the topic...
  8. I wanted to post this photo of the great Peregrine Falcon at Terminal Tower. The photo is anonymous. I am using it to remind Clevelanders that this bird was here as a resident long before Cleveland or settlement. I want to use this bird as a reminder to all who are civic pride/self esteem challenged and those who have the worst of the Cleveland N.E. Ohio inferiority complex...to simply look at this amazing creature... Look at the determination in his eyes....the pride and confidence he exudes, the honesty and straight forwardness and prominence! He is proud of his home and to be here. He has no confidence and self esteem issues or inferiority complex. Let this bird be the new hero we look up to and learn to change attitudes from him. And LeCon James... You couldn't hold a Gatorade glass to this bird. Cleveland look at this bird...watch this bird...be inspired and learn, for he lives among us soaring the skies freely and I dub thee Cleveland's NEW King! (and don't mention anything about poop on a car!)
  9. Ok, I know this has been discussed here and the responsibility of clean-up of litter/full-to-the-hilt trash cans (My God we should have had recycling cans ages ago!) was supposedly the responsibility of the city to empty...and since they apparently need to be told about full cans, and since RTA is not solely responsible...the problems persist at these bus stops. Just today, I witnessed at least 5 cans spilling over on the west side. Now while this may not be totally RTA's responsibility... Here is why it might be a good idea to make it their responsibility. First, these cans are located very close to the bus stops, right next to them in fact...And secondly, most of the garbage in those cans is likely from RTA patrons--which it is good they put it in the cans, though, as some slobs have not even figured out what a trash can is for (let along a recycling can!) and simply use the ground as their garbage can instead---even when a can is RIGHT in front of them. Don't get me started on that. Anyway, third..these cans are in plain sight of RTA stations and are, whether applicable or not, image associated with RTA and makes RTA look bad..and makes the city look like is has no civic pride (which pride is FREE by the way, so everyone can afford to exude a bit of it!) Well, I just thought I would mention these cans spilling over.
  10. ^ Exactly. Did I see you there? I was there on Sunday. It is nice to see children downtown!
  11. I know that.. I was referring to the logic of the types who would stifle such moving forward on rail efforts. Now such may have assumed control of CNBC. "Freedom of the press is limited to those who own one" --- A.J. Leibbling
  12. People like Roger Ailes (sp?)/Rupert Murdoch must have some connections to so called news like this.... that would hope to kill/thwart alternative transportation movements.... "Fair and balanced" is nice....but not always factual and accurate...big difference between the two. Ha!
  13. 600 tickets per day are sold on the weekends. Again, the hope is to keep it open on a more regular basis. This has been like a trial run after not being open so long--and after the deck was renovated. It looks really nice and just being in the room is a treat. There needs to be some re-grouping and evaluating how to improve efficiency of the operation. This is from a volunteering perspective and I am not speaking for anyone in any way for FC--But just sharing the observations and what I am hearing. I like the family crowd it attracts. So much different than the WD and other types of crowds downtown attracts. This crowd portion lacks so this is good. Also, Just an interesting observation from talking to many....I am amazed at how much local area residents are so un-aware of their downtown and what is in their central city. I see such an attraction as a way to re-connect people with their downtown. Amazing what has happened in less than 50 years to divorce Greater Clevelanders with their city... some don't seem to realize that they are a PART of a large metro area. Lastly... again.. Please get there early this weekend if you want to visit.... Don't wait 'til 10:00AM then come down.... Have your tickets and be sitting down at a shop or something...and be ready to step in line. The amount of people we trey to keep in the deck for comfort and safety for approximately 20 minutes average time is 45 to 50...meaning when 6 to 10 go down, we invite the same number back up... There was no "dress rehearsal" for this so considering the crowds, I thought it has been pretty well moving.
  14. You may want to call a parking company and ask if hey can offer some kind of all night special.
  15. I was visiting Slavic Village today. I stopped by the new place that took over the coffee shop on 65th near St. Stans.... It was a really nice place called Shipley's. I try and support some of the businesses there when I can and am just letting everyone know that there IS something new in the space that was mentioned to be closed in a few posts above. It has nice atmosphere and would be nice if more can show some support for the place. Nice menu of simple freshly made sandwiches, coffees, teas, baked goods, etc... and very reasonable. Hours are Monday through Saturday 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM...Closed on Sunday! Check it out..this area could use a bit of a boost. Try Seven Roses while near there as well!
  16. Good innovative effort here... Let's just not get the product in the hands of the local drunks floating through the neighborhoods. (Like "Randy" on the near west side!, and that toothless female they call "Queen No-Theetha") :drunk:
  17. But technically..and this could get really to the point of a tip for a tap....your judging others by saying "they're judging" and while it may not be right, its simply the way it is. It is human nature and without it, we'd not be able to avoid what we may see as potentially harmful scenarios. If I walked up to you and started slobbering a bunch of foul mouthed yawp...you would certainly have some kind of judgment or first/impression me...and if I dressed a certain way, and others did as well and were frequently doing the same thing to you... Do you not think you would eventually form some sort of opinion? Or will you keep telling yourself otherwise? Tell you what, I will make this easy.....I AM judging..so what's the point? I judge people based on their behavior and actions (just like they form an opinion of me by being observant as I am sure many here already have exercised that "prejudiced" side of themselves by assuming I am a racist/profiler) and if it is foul and anti-social, and if the shoe fits...then the only person they have to blame for causing any "judging" is the person who was behaving in such a way that would warrant a fast opinion of themselves. Just live next to a place like the one in question on a regular basis and the blinders will come off...... Unless one is simply pretending in la-la land that all is swell in Dodge... or maybe not paying attention at all...then opinions will be formed, but most are simply too afraid to admit it. But personally, I will not give up my freedom to have a view on this or hold my opinions/observations on this to myself, just because it does not conform to what someone else's idea of what a non-profiler/racist is. I guess I'd rather be disliked for who I am..than liked for who I am not, just for the sake of getting along. We can be so overly politically correct that the truth ends up getting buried.
  18. ^ You are not going to like this, and it is not a solicitation to argue or said with malice, but you that last statement when it comes to some people dressing the part, is not entirely true. Many really ARE exactly as they appear. We cannot ignore the correlations...and yes, granted, it makes the innocent who are not involved in anything wrong but who may be dressed a particular way, look bad. But that is life and no matter what you say, people ...ALL people judge others based on actions, words, dress, behavior, etc... You are judging as well when and if you assume someone is racist/prejudiced or profiling just because what they say does not conform to what your idea of a non-racist or profiler is. Those who dress the crap catcher "gamgsta" part and actually ARE involved in wrong doing.... are usually too stupid to realize that their dress is a dead give away. You apologize and run to the defense of this so often, but wonder how much time you have really spent walking the streets to get a real life's lesson as to the correlations this influence has to illegal/anti-social and criminal behavior. Cops figure this out but are reprimanded when they try to do their jobs and enforce the law. Its easy to peck the keys and speak safely about it from behind the screen...but being exposed to some of this stuff on a daily basis like people who live next to it...and police, presents a whole other view of the darkside to this so called "innocent fun".....and if you think that all these individuals associated with what is a drug related culture... are just a bunch of nice fellas, then I really hope that you don't end up getting hurt.
  19. All of which we actually already have on a smaller more independent/locally owned scale if you just look hard enough. I just wonder how many who say we need more of this or that..and I am not disagreeing...would actually support the places..OR, do we want it just so downtown can "play dress-up" like a big city...so we can show our friends how "cool" it looks like a sort of museum to what functioning real downtowns used to be like. Just wondering. I am also really surprised at how popular 4th is...yet when it comes to any empty fronts nearby, there seems to be 0 effort to maintain the curb appeal to make the spaces more marketable, via washing windows, window art, etc... The theater building on Euclid near Cad. Ranch is a prime example...as well as how long the bodies space sat looking like crap. If this area cannot be a prime example of the best curb appeal for the old buildings.. I don't know what can. It really is as simple a matter as the idea of washing your hands before you eat. Simple things that make a collective big difference. We don't quite grasp this concept as a city and how far it goes in presenting the best image even in bad times. The ideals have been mostly lost.
  20. ^ You have every right to sugar coat it, and make it look all rosy, but I see if for what it is. Obnoxious with nothing socially redeeming. I have witnessed the associated behavior daily...to the point my life was threatened and I have seen it repeatedly..... Should I not form an opinion then when I see these kinds starting to lurk in my direction? Why do you think deer have become nocturnal? It is because of what they have witnessed in humans hunting them...they are even smart enough to make a negative association by observing repeated behavior---in that they know they're being hunted. As a human animal in this kingdom we do the same. Again, no one is profiling these people but themselves by what they choose to commonly associate with. If they don't want negative attention, then quit acting like imbeciles. Also, the style/influence (a lot of it cultivated from dysfunction made to look cool by big marketing--See PBS "Merchants Of Cool") is mass marketed to city, suburban and beyond and therefore gets a wide array of customers and I have found nearly all of them to be douche bags no matter what flavor they are. And because most have been, there is no reason I need to give them my respect and/or trust from the get go. I will always look at those like this as a possible potential spark of trouble, and until they can earn my trust, they don't get it and I do not need to give it, as I reserve that right. Trust is a sacred and cherished thing that is to be earned, not bullied/demanded... with obnoxious foul mouth poet of limited vocabulary... audio assault/terrorism by some idiot wearing crap catchers roving by my house at three AM shaking it off its foundation. I won't ignore what is obvious and the comparisons you draw are by no means comparable to this new type of anti-social behavior that takes things to a whole new level. Until we stop drawing this profiling card...or race card as some will (but this is not race, because so many engage/buy into this sort of thing, no matter what flavor)...such bails out what is unacceptable behavior and we will therefore never be able to make a dent in restoring reasonable peace to neighborhoods when we keep sending the message that it is OK to behave inappropriately/illegally. Anyone get a chance. Here it is again..Look what this caters to and promotes. Nothing about music delivery system..rather, they promote a "noise weapon" and anti-social behavior... Oh, and look at a bit of some of the clothing, by the way. And there is wonder why profiles are formed. http://www.noiseoff.org/ads.php
  21. ^ I don't see your comments as so much negative. Rather, they simply acknowledge the need for improvement. But, some of the posters on CDC....read an article about the attempt to make big improvements..But still find the the turd-in-the-punchbowl about it. Well, I suppose we all can do that sometimes, but those forumers never fail to please in that department.
  22. ^ Good points. One thing on the job component.... There are some people who no matter what, don't want to work, even if they're paid well. They'd rather get involved with some of the antics we're talking about here. I disagree on the dress component. Those who dress the way we are talking about (with the crap catchers on)....are all too often associated with problematic behavior, because the very inspiration for that style is prison related. If anyone denies this I suggest they do some digging to explore that subculture of what that stuff really means. (baggy-prison like attire...drop your pants as a symbol of "offering" for protection) I am sure many who wear this stuff are not even aware, because we have so many followers. While certainly granted... not everyone may be up to, or associated with no good who dresses as such, many ARE....and so the associations come from a regularly observed percentage of often projected behaviors by those who are choosing to dress like that...so, I say again, in the bigger picture, they essentially create the profiling for themselves because of the all too often associations with anti-social behavior.... And recognizing the obvious and reality has nothing to do with going "old fogey" (I loathed this behavior since I was in High School) it has to do with listening to your gut instincts (that protect one from potentially adverse situations) and being observant in this world. If they are the next Einsteins in the classroom (doubt it though when the vocabulary is so limited) then great. Too bad the bad behavior undermines that part of the picture, though. Also too bad that the "young fogey" is often too stubborn to admit he/she can learn anything from someone who has lived life a hell of a lot longer than they have.
  23. That quote is a classic, regarding "Gusto"..... I have to laugh at this because it really sounds like a joke toward a testament of downward spiral when it comes making a bit of effort in personal presentation when planning to go out to eat/on the town! I meant it that way. It really does seem like you're out of place (even at many expensive restaurants) anymore if you're "dressed up" when you go out. I know. I was afraid you were serious! :-) In my opinion its a pathetic scenario. It is one thing if one happens to be dining on the go and en route to somewhere and just wanted a quick bite or something like that and goes to a "come-as-you-are" type thing......But to know a head of time what one is doing...and have a night planned to go out, etc...and take a lazy way out and make no effort is simply careless. When and if I go out to a place that has some class, atmosphere and charm, I will always make an effort and show some respect for the institution of the place. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying to go out and wear tuxedo every time one decides to swallow a bite, but to know you're going out a head of time....well, then some nice pants, shoes and shirt exudes a bit of pride. If one finds the right clothing, one discovers that dress clothing does not have to feel uncomfortable or stuffy. This laziness plague, as I see it, is just not something I aspire to be a part of, never will, never have---And, I will not lower my standard to "fit-in" just because everyone decides to take the easy road, and then label it with the catch words like "hip", or "trendy". No, just trashy. We've seemed to have broadened the definition of those words to include sloppiness, somewhat like morbidly obese woman have done to words like "rubanesque"(Sp?) "shapely", "curvy", and "full figured" to include being obviously FAT!......(then it becomes "cool") when in reality these words historically never described such a type. Jane Russel was all those words...but never morbidly FAT!
