  1. Interesting headline. It implies to me that cracking down on something that should not be going on in the first place will stifle a "renaissance?" Ha! If it takes this kind of behavior/crowd to stimulate business at the expense of the rest of the community, then maybe its time to get a new gig. Classic quote: "We don't want people to think we're not concerned with the violence because we are," said manager Rob Olsen. "We just haven't been a part of the violence." Uhhh....could it be because you think you're not responsible for anyone's behavior after they leave your club too drunk to take a poop?...OR, that just maybe because you cater to a crowd where a certain percentage has absolutely no regard for rules, laws, or other people...because this just might be what they were brought up to think is perfectly normal, instead of the dysfunction/anti-social ill-behavior that it really is? And in no way are you party to the end results? Sorry, just tired of this club/bar argument that insists no matter what they cater to, that any behavior right outside their door is NOT their responsibility. Another classic externality argument.
  2. Did anyone see this today? I read it...and also viewed some of the comments below, and in typical Cleveland Dot Com fashion, the peanut gallery was just foaming at the mouth to bad mouth the idea with the typical "woe-is we" attitude! There is simply no pleasing the majority of this group....Amazing! :-o New Airmall at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport gives travelers more and better options Published: Monday, July 26, 2010, 8:00 AM Los Angeles traveler Aileen Garrigues used to wrinkle her nose at changing planes at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport -- but no longer. On a recent morning she praised what she'd seen of the airport's retail makeover while enjoying vanilla and strawberry frozen yogurt from the Bananas Smoothies & Frozen Yogurt shop she found a few days earlier between another set of flights. "I'm a repeat customer," said Garrigues. "I sought this place out. Even if I didn't.... Read the rest at: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/07/new_airmall_at_cleveland_hopki.html
  3. That quote is a classic, regarding "Gusto"..... I have to laugh at this because it really sounds like a joke toward a testament of downward spiral when it comes making a bit of effort in personal presentation when planning to go out to eat/on the town!
  4. Some good selections... But "Crocker Park?"... That's a joke, right?
  5. Is this the building that was occupied by Stark Ent.? The one that had the disgusting yellow/brown facade that was painted in recent years to actually look respectable?
  6. ^ Yes... You said it!
  7. Hmmm.. More flowering pears/junipers that will end up half dead.... (sigh!) I wish planners would sometimes listen to other people besides landscapers to choose some much better and suitable and definitive for Ohio plants. If we are going to have all these empty lots, then they can at least be looking the best they can. Consult with Ohio Prairie Nursery and Cleveland Museum of Natural History. I guarantee these planter beds will not be maintained. Just look at the existing ones surrounding the existing lots... All the parking lots.. GRRR!! Its all an abomination, especially when seen from the Terminal Tower OB Deck! Sorry, I just cannot get excited about this or find a positive twist.
  8. If there is a thread for this..sorry. I just wonder why we are not a stop on one of these itineraries that crossover Lake Erie? (see website below) Duluth Minnesota is, why not us? Lots to offer for a stop over and trips across the lakes from Cleveland were once common. I have written to this company a few times in the interest of getting them to take a look at here...to the visitors bureau, the port, council, but there appears to be no real sustained effort to make us a stop. I already have a nice idea for what could be included in a stop here. Have a look at some of these vessels! http://www.greatlakescruising.com/
  9. My ill-informed guess is that based on our history, it will remain a surface parking lot indefinitely. And, if we are going to have all these parking lots in the heart of the city, the least they can do is add some pedestrian appeal to them with trees, brick looking walk ways and a couple benches..then it might be nice if the lot operator actually took care of the place too with basics like litter clean-up and any planter maintenance. My guess is that it will be an empty black top lot....eventually get crumbly, littered.... and just plain dirty looking. Any wagers on this? With all this supposed "demand" for more parking downtown... I guess this means people and new businesses are banging the door down to come downtown, right? (by the way, I am just being sarcastic because I am over the surface parking lot thing, already!)
  10. Etheostoma Caeruleum replied to a post in a topic in City Photos - Ohio
Very nice photos... This is a quaint place... Not far from Sandy Creek either....a river where some amazing fish diversity exists!
  11. Looks like the robbers :shoot: picked the wrong person here. :police: They need to be caught...and made a promise that if they keep it up..they will never go to jail, seeing that going to jail is a noble accomplishment for some of these bozos.
  12. I am for that.. I just thought we were talking about the whole Cleveland area. On the frozen stuff.. I love freshly cut potatoes, but I doubt in the Colonial Arcade, with a lunch our limited to a few hours, that they would have much time to prepare them fresh cut.
  13. Oh yeah... you are right, R&R.... I thought you meant overall in Greater Cleveland/N.E. Ohio. How about some good old Hungarian ethic foods because Cleveland had such a big H. population... There is a really good book out since '03 called "Cleveland Food Memories" I would like to take a handful of places from that book and its eras covered and re-introduce them.
  14. ^ Depends on how the stuff is made and with what. Who said wraps had to be made of that stuff? I am sure the healthier choice is hormone laden chicken wings, and fried saturated fat grease. A bit of exercise could help us all.
  15. Just a thought........I wonder if folks from other cities ask why their city doesn't have something like place "X" or whatever, in Cleveland? Or, is it only us always asking "why don't we have what they have?" I have a question....Why don't we focus more on being original and a trend/example setter...and not the follower?
  16. You put out rat food... you'll be bound to get some rats. Personally, I prefer the rats over the humans.
  17. Funny, I thought the opposite... I think we have plenty of ethic and heavy foods and not enough alternatives. The Cube for example is far more than "wrap smoothie" Their menu is limited for now, but will be expanding. Check out their menu on the main website. Personally, I am sick of Mexican, or the bastardized American versions of it that consist of mainly cheese/beans. Although I would like to see a bit more Mediterranean.
  18. I agree. I wish more focus on revitalization would go toward east side gems like this. By the way, I hope this link works, but here is a copy of the Flaming Ice Cube Cleveland menu so far... More and more will be added... Flaming Ice Cube CLEVELAND MENU: http://www.flamingice.com/Menu/MenuClevelandDownload.pdf
  19. This is a microcosm example of why I pose the question/thought..that if we cannot currently fill the myriad of business/retail spaces we currently have that are in good condition with businesses that would be suitable for the current spaces...why would adding a bunch more places with such spaces more do any wonders? Oh, that actually rhymed! Anyway, its like playing musical chairs with downtown available retail/business space...one places gets abandoned others fill up.....those get abandoned and move somewhere else.... Until there is a lot of NEW places waiting to open, and people there willing to patronize, why add more space? I just don't get it.
  20. I will admit, despite going to college on and off...and completing a few fruitful educational ventures, I have pretty much always wanted to...and have worked for myself; always made my own opportunities....so I really never had the problem or pressure of needing to find a job/work for someone else.... that may or may not have been here at any given time, but sometimes if it has not been tried, you have to make your own opportunities by literally contacting prospective employers that may not even be advertising at any given time through any networking employment means. (paper, magazines, internet, etc.) But, I did have to do that for a while, and have done it before... and you'd be surprised that their actually are jobs there when you look hard enough, are lucky and happen to hit the right chord or know a good contact. But, I can feel the frustration for those who have tried this sort of thing and have come up short, and who really didn't want to leave. Then there is not much choice. Having said this, however, I do have a feeling that much of this "there are no jobs" catch all summary, is more of an easy way out and repeated phrase...because "someone else heard from a friend who said", and so on. Much of it having about as much credibility as those ridiculous Forbes top ten lists.....Hence, and easy excuse to flock to places like "Arid-Zona" If all things in life are cyclical, then I look for, in their own way, as we have here in what was the heart of America's manufacturing force.... someday, all these supposed incredible places the grads flee to, to have their own turn for their own brand of economic demise.....and then, the "place to be" will eventually be where people least expected.
  21. Sorry, I read the article so fast and overlooked KJP's post.
  22. It has been so bad that 7-9 actually sounds good.
  23. On the building on 12th Street, does anyone know if anything will ever occupy the street level retail spaces?
  24. Ok, just a note that may be of interest to anyone who wants to go on Sunday. I was informed by operators that Guest Services will be selling only 600 tickets before they consider the Observation deck "sold out"..... and will be able to sell more if there is time and the ability to do so. This is for Sunday, when I am helping. I will find out if the same applies for Saturday, but it would be safe to assume it would. Hope this helps. Oh, and you apparently cannot keep your tickets. Sad, because they're really nifty little things!
  25. Do you think any of these new cars will pass through Cleveland on the routs we have?
