  1. Nice review. Thank you! As for million dollar mansions...there are a few pockets in the city that boast some higher end places...but these days, you probably have to venture more to the nearby Heights areas, Bratenhl, Edgewater, Anyone else chime in on this? Teardowns have destroyed a lot of the city's original density. If you look at the old post cards and books, they will "wow!" you. There are many to be found on that subject. Yes, we have much infilling to do..and we're not happy about the excess of parking lots at the moment. Depending on how long you are here, (if you did not go home yet) you should check out some of the other areas in the city..the best kept secrets and so on, as well as the general Cleveland area. All is close enough to where you do not have to drive that long. We are lucky to have such a nice buffer of farming lands that can provide us with a lot of locally produced produce...as well as a great metro-park system, and national park, all within 20-25-to...45 minutes from the epicenter. Well, I could go on...but I am sure others will follow. Don't forget to visit the Terminal Tower Observation platform while you're here..if you're here..... Its been a while since it has been open. Nice acclivity. Maybe check out Lakeview Cemetery too. Its a living..."dead" museum! Anyway, glad you have enjoyed yourself.
  2. ^ Yes, that would be nice, but we have to ask ourselves whether or not we have enough bars/restaurants already.... to sustain the current numbers of those who visit such. Maybe we need less of the bar scene types and more of some of something else. Otherwise, we build new....people get tired of the old, abandon it...frequent the new...and the process/cycle continues, always leaving us with some empty hole somewhere. It is just something to contemplate. Personally, and I can speak for probably many who would feel the same, I hate bars and am over it. I am ready for something different near there.... like combining elements of parks, museums, aquarium, galleries and a few quality restaurants/watering holes...and maybe a dance place or two interspersed here and there. Maybe some more small water tours...rentals, residences where many will become stakeholders in the neighborhood and who won't party, trash it...then leave a mess by the morning as the puke dries on the street. :drunk:
  3. Oh, that link appears to have been inserted incorrectly...sorry.
  4. I really like the old police station on Payne. I hope that there will be use made of the building and that it will not be demolished. It has a real old school police station look to it... It reminds me of Eliot Ness days. Cleveland, developer work out unusual financing for Third District police station project Published: Friday, July 16, 2010, 5:45 PM Michelle Jarboe, The Plain Dealer Michelle Jarboe, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A police station project in Cleveland could move 195 officers to Midtown and open up two city properties -- one in University Circle and the other near Cleveland State University -- for private development. The city wants to build a new Third District police station on the former.... Read the rest at: http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2010/07/cleveland_developer_work_out_u.html
  5. Thanks. Anyone know why the ballet moved to San Jose? My sisters live there and it is rather bland.
  6. I believe this place can be superior to what it was... Much more dynamic and diverse in what it offers. I read the article someone posted above "Who Killed The Flats" and if it is all true about what M. White was doing to harass the independents...and bully the place into hiring blacks, then by all means a lot of the decline was inevitable. However, at the same time, there were a lot of places down there that were just turning into crap all on their own. My best memory was going to Noisemakers (ironically!) in '88...'89... Yes, anyone who did not get a chance to see the place at this time..oh you missed a great time! But all that is dead....time to see if we can get this place into something more respectable now than a pile of dirt.
  7. Thank goodness something other than restaurant/bar.. (I think..until I see just what it is going to be) Adding a bit more of such would break up this giant outdoor food court look.
  8. So what are new opportunities for seeing it other than holiday shows?
  9. I have a quick question...Is there anymore Cleveland ballet or opportunity to see ballet here anymore. I thought it folded? Anyone know?
  10. Wait 'til you try the raspberry crunch bars! Remember on the service too...things are still very early and new people are getting used to the system, plus all the food is freshly prepared so sometimes it might take a little longer. I see things getting better as a lot of odds and ends get ironed out. By the way, and this is a bit off topic, but I was there the other day and grabbed something to go... Glad to see the reductions in plastic/styrofoam...and after eating went to the 200 P.S. Atrium to sit for a while and work on a few items. Almost forgot what a beautiful space that is to relax and hear the water. Good retail/restaurant space. On the comments above about restrooms in places.... I don't know how such a simple value of clean restrooms has been all too often lost, but I always thought that restrooms were sometimes an indicator/reflection of managements efforts to be clean. If the restrooms were crap, the ethic in the food preparation might be similar. Similarly, the value of curb appeal, as the business is not only on the inside, but outside as well. (example: Last time windows or lower facade was cleaned at...say... Corner Alley?...Newer restoration and already scuffed and beginning to look a bit drab and windows filthy) Maybe its time JM's, in particular, hear from more patrons about such issues.
  11. All of the empty fronts on Euclid COULD look like this in the meanwhile.
  12. I love these photos. A real functioning city in itself. Lucky are those who got to witness this scene.
  13. This is great. I hope these areas will be watched carefully and that no one tries vandalizing the plants.
  14. Can someone try and fix this or let her remove this photo and try again? I don't want to post it for concern of it doing the same thing. Thanks. This window turned out nicely and you wouldn't be able to tell from the size. Oh well....nevermind, I fixed it....now can someone delete the one above?
  15. Quick update here.....No photo yet, but 1104 Prospect...complete. We can get a photo soon, but if anyone wants to snap one and post, feel free. There are also more artists who have expressed interest in participating in this---and I am still working on promoting a couple themes in particular for a couple windows. More windows to come. This project is just a slow process to try and get these cleaned properly, displays installed and coordinate everyone's schedule. I think slowly this will gain the eyes that will ask.. Who is doing this? That would be nice! Joan, above, has been working a lot to get more spaces secured. Help in cleaning and prep work from those who can be available in day hours to do a prep work plan for the windows before displays are installed would help greatly! Thank You!
  16. Great shots... It appears that you can see Gildersleeve Mountain to the east.. The beginning uprise point of the Appalachian Plateau.
  17. Hello, Quick update.... I just had communication with Ohio Department Of Natural Resources and thanks to some extra contact and a little push that we've been promoting, we should start noticing more regular beach sweeping at Edgewater, along with some no littering (and no cigarette butt littering) signage to help establish an anti-littering mindset and give law enforcement more leverage. Basically, more attention to these important issues. I am also working on a power point presentation to be shown to block clubs about the negative economic, environmental, and social impacts and costs on the community of litter. I hope some from here can make it Saturday. If you plant to, please RSVP. Thank You
  18. Is it just me or is Johnny Mangos starting to look really crappy on the outside? Btw...tried a red velvet muffin for a desert today after a great lunch at Flaming Ice...... These are fabulous and made from scratch.
  19. This is where Pedapods will be the perfect answer! :-D Check them out on the transportation thread area, Or.... www.pedapod.com.au
  20. Thanks R&R...indeed, the kinks will be worked out. There is still a lot of decorating to do and menu items to add among other things. Some complications have delayed opening, but when all is running full force, the kinks will be worked out. More menu items, outdoor seating, signage, working with new employees.... and a small retail section as well as more decor. Management of the place is committed to delivering a quality fresh product. They can also offer catering trays and eventually, probably, delivery. Some of the healthiest food choices downtown...and yummy too! Please let them work the bumps out as it has been a long haul to get this going. Thanks for the good feedback!
  21. Heavy rains cause sewage overflow at Edgewater; swimming discouraged Published: Tuesday, July 13, 2010, 10:26 AM Updated: Tuesday, July 13, 2010, 11:11 AM Liz Navratil, The Plain Dealer Liz Navratil, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Authorities are asking residents not to swim at Edgewater Park after a storm Monday night caused an unknown amount of sewage to flow into the lake. Jeannie Chapman, a spokeswoman for the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, said.... For the rest of the story, visit: http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/07/heavy_rains_cause_sewer_overfl.html And, hope some of you will join the small sweep gathering listed above.
  22. Who said it was my vision? So spare me from putting words in my mouth. I'm not going to have a debate with you here about whether consumption should continue to be the M.O. in America. I've informed you to stay on topic and discuss those other issues elsewhere in appropriate threads. If you can't limit this discussion to CVSR, then I'm going to delete those messages. Granted. And I would greatly appreciate it if you would sometimes allow for the fact that someone (anyone) else may be a bit more in tune with a given issue than you...and if you would not request to stay on topic in such a dismissive way that makes what I say seem insignificant. Thank you. Now, the issue I made to the idea of transit reaching the park was simply that available park lands and management staff and funding, versus demand at this particular time, cannot handle the extra influx..and that a good idea is to first promote for more setting aside of public land. (although in theory, I would support nearby rail access) End of story. That was not so off topic. If people would try to see the validity, any...in that idea, instead of defending something that can result in what I described, then we would not have these huge debates. Its all about keeping an open mind and taking on board another idea that may sometimes be out of the mainstream or against the grain. Excuse me for having the "selfish interest" of wanting to preserve the quality experience and integrity of the parks, one of our most valued assets!
  23. LeBron James will be making the announcement, in an hour long special for charity!!!
