  1. ^ There may be some focus on implementing native plants...the whole concept of this building is to shift to a place where sustainability is an effort in the products, goods and services sold...as well as the attraction of new business venues that feature such green products such as air and water purification. All available to the public. Education/outreach will be a goal too. But, this will be a unique place to find some pretty interesting stuff that is useful to businesses and residents. This produce, whatever they have at a given time IS available to the public, just so everyone knows... If you live downtown and need some... Just stop by. I also want to see this be a go to place for Pedapod. The diversity and productivity of the plants will increase as this program evolves and tackles challenges. On a side note...Even right now, there are some nice galleries in this place and a nice museum. In the end, it will transition into a more local and independent good and services venue, besides a place of the chain gang stuff. If you have an eco-related product, idea or whatever...you may want to set up shop here. Thanks for posting the article, Murray Hill... nice write up!
  2. Donatning your body to such is a great way to get to travel to many places! :-D
  3. ^ Good point. Its really disturbing.
  4. ^ ^ I have an idea!!!! How about training drivers to be more cautious and not talk on cell phones! That might be effective.

^ Great story/memory..... Thanks! Yes, "Chester's" was the name! Empty for soooo long...BEST view of the city! I wish I could buy it and open up a classy place. I heard the menu went south... BUT, the fact that such a great property has not been taken over for another place, for such a long time... had me wondering
  6. I am not saying it is not ok to have such places, however....Sorry, but the 20 something crowd is not the only crowd here. So, unless we want people to remain here and stay well into their 40's and more....you need to have establishments that are also more mature..the things that separate the kiddies from the adults. Either that, or you will create an atmosphere that has Cleveland being mostly transient...or a kind of a place people stop along the way in life for the short term...NOT so much where people want to MAKE a life in the longer run. Big big difference. Besides, in the here and now, those in their 35 to 50 range, are spending more in the economy than 20 somethings getting drunk and puking at the end of the night. Don't discount us as over the hill. We're too, an essential component of this city and economy that is too much overlooked and too ignored because of all this getting caught up in appealing to the "younger" crowd. Needs to be both and balance. Maybe its a tougher sell to convince others to stay and an easier one to just throw out a bunch of booze and say... "Come and get it!!!" and then call it "hip" which is the baiting word. Is anyone mentioning the fact that some of the WD is actually looking kind of crappy? (IMO)

Hey, I didn't know where to post this.... but it concerns a property on Rockside Rd. near where the old Hilton South, now Doubletree Hotel is. There is an empty former restaurant lounge on the slope leading up to the hotel on the east side of that road. I used to go there years ago but it closed and I do not remember the name of it.. "Charlies" or something maybe? Anyway, I had to head near there today and wondered in all astonishment WHY on earth is this property not utilized as a restaurant lounge anymore? It has all the hotels within walking distance and one of the best views of the entire city ever. Is it a technical thing like liens or foreclosure? This place has sat empty for years and with seemingly little interest. Anyone know the scoop on this place? What a waste of such a great space!
  8. This was stated: "You want someone to go that extra small step? Fine. Let it be you, and stop judging others." Well, my "judgement" is based upon what I see every day....so, if yeee want to not be judged, then yeee could start showing better examples on attention to the issue. If I saw a good job on such being done, I would be equally offering all the praise in the world...and I would bet no one would have a problem with that. The reply was, to me....Implying that I have not went the extra step. AND.....If cleaning it up myself is not leading by example, I don't know what is. I am not at all saying I am the lone person who does that either...as I indicated, many do and it is a great thing, however, if we all went the extra step and did a little...that goes a long way...and in this case, RTA has not met up to my expectations in doing their part. Example...If they're really concerned about this issue, they'd remove the vending machines at any station (such as 65th Rapid station) because all they do is invite more litter and until people learn to stop being slobs someday, maybe the privilege needs to be suspended. The chump change any vending company throws back in return is not worth it.
  9. ^ I will keep updates posted here. The whole model will likely be discussed at a meeting that anyone who is interested in can attend. I will make a notice of that. Thanks for the interest.
  10. If RTA people see this.....then why aren't THEY reporting it? Or, maybe they do? From the looks of the stops and some stations, I would have to conclude not much. I have reported things like this all the time, to the city too.. we're all in this together and it would help if sometimes folks at RTA go the extra step. Why know this problem exists and wait for the city to get out there or for someone to report it to the city? Oh..wait.. I know why.... It's not in the "job description." Again, a philosophical issue that all the funding in the world will not make right. This garbage was strewn all over your stop as well. How bad does it have to get before someone takes the liberty to go the extra small step?
  11. Classic!!! Add to this.. Last night I was walking by a bus stop along Euclid....and aside from the talking/beeping buses we've been discussing...the station sounded like some kind of chaotic fish trade market with all the excessive screaming and hollering and profanity..... :argue: Great atmosphere to attract new riders...while absolutely NO security was present.
  12. ^ Here is a website for anyone's convenience. So now we will have a social service est. right in with the market cluster. How exciting! We simply have too few of these in OC. :| http://www.discoverlorainave.com/default.aspx
  13. ^^ Lois, I sent you an email, thank you for the support! I would like to eventually arrange a meeting with you... Invite you to one. Pugo..those are just vehicles wrapped in an advertisement that is sold to advertisers. It can be changed. Under City Discussion, there is a "Gardens Under Glass" thread.... Should be on the first page.... Just don't have it convenient at the moment. But in short, it is all about creating indoor growing of certain produce year round and creating a sort of "eco-village" featuring more infusion of businesses that offer green products and education. Unique things not typically sold or found elsewhere.
  14. ^ Thank you! I sent them a note.. Also, anyone who helps encourage this announcement to be sent out on appropriate newsletters or websites by forwarding it to appropriate parties would be greatly appreciated!
  15. ^^ Well, we've been awaiting this a loooong time.... the scaled back version... http://www.flatseast.com/ Yes, the CDC forum is a free for all. Great place to call out the stupid, though.
  16. I understand they were forced out, and that's a shame, but they couldn't find a better location to relocate to than Brookpark and Pearl? So many empty spaces along Loraine... too bad something could not have been suitable for them there. The old Peaches place seems huge for the kind of place Athens is. Is next to where the old Mining Company was? Now a 70's and country themed dual club?
  17. Sorry...sizing allows for the above photo only. All details of this program will be discussed at a meeting with anyone interested in getting involved. Btw...If anyone knows a good thread where this announcement should be posted, any group that they may want to share it with, please do so as we are needing to recruit those interested in starting their own small business with very little start-up costs and all the support they will ever need. Thank You
  18. Sorry I had to post all these separate.... If you scroll to the top, you will see them all... I have more I am going to post but I have to dig them out of the pile I left since I returned. Here is another in the meanwhile.... I didn't find one Black and Mild tip on this shoreline! Sorry about this size.. That will be the only one like that.
  19. Hello bike enthusiasts, those interested in sustainable transportation alternatives.....OR anyone with an interest in becoming a city ambassador tour cabbie! I am attempting to gauge interest in anyone interested in becoming self-employed pilots in operating the vehicles featured below...in Cleveland. These will likely be the transportation of choice for Gardens Under Glass and they will provide many benefits to the community as well as satisfying rewards for the operators. If you are seriously interested, please PM me. We are going to have a future meeting outlining the details of the project.

I would support this only if the monies would be steered towards fixing obvious problems. Otherwise I would just not go hand them money and say.. "here...do what you will"
  21. "Noise" Tim Robbins That is one... But I often feel like I am visiting here from another planet...looking at the whole from the outside in as if in a Far Side cartoon.
  22. I wish, but quite unlikely in this case. If you would like the name of a former activist and legal worker who is extremely well schooled in these subjects to find out why...I can provide you with the contact.
  23. Reminder to anyone interested.... The Sierra Club clean-up is Saturday June 12th from 10:00 am to noon. They meet at the lower pavilion for breakfast, normally there are about 20 people. Carol ward, the naturalist is normally there as a representative for CLSP. It is open to the public. Encouraging friends to attend is appreciated!
  24. I don't have problem with closing on Sunday, in fact advocate a day where commerce should just give it a rest.......But in the CBD, Saturdays might be the only time some can get out and enjoy a day. I guess if we go downtown, we're SOL, then.
