CLEVELAND - last of the good times
Very nice photo thread!... Btw.. Hey Shooters? Two words... "Windex and Paint" It may bring you into the 90's!

Buffalo, New York
Such a contrast to pre-major sprawl....say go back to the 20's or 30's and the same scenes past 8:00 PM--I'll bet--would have likely looked very active.

Cleveland: The Houses of Glenville
thats a huge problem about Cleveland. Many great neighborhoods with great housing stock but because people say things like "the eastside is in ruins" or form / regurgitate wrong opinions about neighborhoods, people dont know what we have. All they hear or promote is OC, Tremont, DS. Another prime example of this is Chinatown/Asian Village. Agreed. I love this housing stock.... while most of the revitalization goes into places you mention, many spots in this area cry out for adoption...some of the best housing stock of its kind ever produced. It simply cannot be allowed to go to waste. The materials will never be replaced ever again. They were built to last and obviously for long term or raising a family, etc.

Cleveland: Hotel Development
Etheostoma Caeruleum replied to ClevelandOhio's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhat's wrong with the brick exterior? I hope the replacement will not be something cheaper and inferior to the brick. This has lasted a loooong time ans still looks pretty darn good. I hope it is nothing light or prone to stain. Any white or light exteriors will likely get dirty...and look crappy just like Dollar Bank's terrible choice to paint the S.W. corner of the Galleria white...looking unfinished with stain trails already present, especially on the lower areas which are more prone to receiving dirt and grime from the street and after winter. I also hope some signage goes up during the process so as to not look like nothing is happening. The Scofield thing, even with the scaffolding on, cannot fool me because it has sat waiting so long.

"Underwater Cleveland"- A Look At Some Of N.E. Ohio's Aquatic Habitats-Not Far!
Some Redside Dace from Cleveland area stream. Indicators of higher water quality. Pollution sensitive. Well, trying to load the photo...site won;t allow it...indicates I already have a file posted with the same name and hat is not true. I will try later, stay tuned.

Question from Cle: Wouldn't the port moving mean displacing that nature preserve? If that's the case I'm all for the port staying right where they're at. No, but it would severely compromise it. The alternatives to the move and why the current proposal is a lot of sham...was discussed on the move thread, but sends many UO'ers into denial, as the idea of alternatives are hardly considered and since the only side to the story comes from the port influence. Ooops... I slaughtered a sacred cow here....

All Aboard Ohio
This would be a good idea.. its an argument that perhaps should be more in the forefront... Somehow, to estimate the increase in productivity and what it can equate to increased dollars for businesses. If this is the only lingo he understands...he has still failed to realize the benefits of even that single element, aside from the many other money benefits.... $$$! I think of this each time I have to make a long commute.....How much time I waste stuck in traffic, which equates to money, driving defensively, watching out for cops wanting to write tickets...road conditions, other morons on the road driving clueless, etc. Oh, and after work...When I am not working, I cannot even relax while driving, especially these days with the roads so clogged...... On a train I could and watch the scenery...and wave BYE BYE to drivers!

Aren't there enough transient shelters in O.C. :drunk: ... Just kidding! :wink2: I stayed in one of these a few times and they weren't very clean with basics. Hope this will be a better presentation.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
Well, it could be good....perhaps someone would be interested in building on top if promoted to a buyer. I must wonder though....will any of downtown be locally owned? So much is owned by groups I sense really don't care much about the city. Acknowledged that there are surely the local groups who don't seem to care much either--otherwise there would be no need for Cleveland Storefront Art.

Cleveland: Little Italy Neighborhood Discussion
I just hope that this station, which I think is a good thing, does not also become a conduit for problem riders--even a couple bad apples spoil a bunch-- on the rapid to easily gain access to the neighborhood to do nothing more than to look for trouble and people to either panhandle, rob, or create some other kind of chaos.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Vacancies are a big concern. I often see so much emphasis on buildings having street level retail space--and that's a well and good idea of design, naturally...However, we have soooo many current retail vacancies downtown that are in good and decent shape and can be used for a wide variety of street retail. Just walk around thoroughly and take note to all the existing space. This situation opf so much space to offer, yet they are vacant. It would be wise rule of thumb to strive to somehow, someway fill existing vacancies before adding new spaces and poaching from other buildings. All we're really doing in that case is shuffling things around leaving holes to fill. If the current spaces get largely full through incentives for smaller start-up first time businesses to seed....then it is time to draw NEW businesses to NEW spaces....and not keep up the trend of building more new, abandon the old, or make new and hope we fill those while we cannot even fill existing space.

Cleveland Casino site and environs
I hope that some of the buildings like Higbee's and the nearby Landmark can get the exterior wash to rid them of the dirt channels... Anyone know if they will be washed? Once something brand new is down there, it may make the older buildings look very dirty. These look like they will be pretty classy places. Hope some of the patrons actually remember to dress up a bit. Sneakers and ripped jeans and ball caps don't seem to blend nicely with the scene.

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
Etheostoma Caeruleum replied to FrqntFlyr's post in a topic in Northeast Ohio Projects & Construction^ Thank you.... Some of us who are over the teenie tiny teenie scene would like a mature classy dressy place to entertain without feeling like our shoes will be puked on. Afterall, those in...you know.... that "forgotten" age bracket of 35 to 55 are spending the most in the economy, are not quite ready for the nursing home......so give us a place. Marketing may just have to come up with better sales pitches to lure us, and not the typical bozo ones that cater to the easy sell.

Cleveland: Perk Park Renovation
Very Nice, but also very maintenance prone in a city that slacks on such issues, an area we need improvement.

Cleveland: a morning in Glenville [Part 2]
Again, some of the finest quality materials ever to have gone into..or ever will go into homes. If new stock had to stand the tests of abuse some of these have, they would not be standing at all. Somehow, someway...someday, my ship comes in and I swear I will buy an entire block of these homes, renovate them with new greener features... and create an eco-village...then target market worldwide to those who share in the vision.

I'm sure a rap song will come out glorifying such atrocities....making it look cool! Then, a vigil will held for the killer because he was starting to get his life back together! WTF? Uh oh...cannot have that opinion here, in this wonderful democracy.

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
Regarding the liquor store: Are you sure this is a good idea? Its one thing if this is a higher end classy place, but another if they're going to sell, or even sneak in some rot gut whiskey or Wild Irish Rose....as if we needed more of those kinds of "glass flowers" sprouting all over the city grounds after the winos toss 'em... And speaking of the parking... Met a guy who lives in Lakewood..... and could not find parking anywhere near the Galleria! Can you believe this? The place has its own underground garage and is surrounded by others. Are people BLIND who actually say things like this...this out of touch with their downtown...Or is it that if a lot does not come in the form of being on the surface, they're clueless.. But even then, we have a glut of these too. WTF??? :wtf:
