  1. Are you originally from Illinois?
  2. Small...but a lot of smalls add up to be a lot, remember. Quality over quantity effect. Adds diversity in the economy in contrast to "mono culturing" it. Diversity breeds stability.
  3. Such just showcases the arrogance of Dan and Co.
  4. Hope they don't miss out on the bedside manners training!
  5. I predict that the stock that has been re-developed, will need it again before anything is ever built in the parking lots. Follow-up and routine maintenance on such restored buildings is largely slack. Its as though owners/managers sit on their laurels and act like "Hey we restored this building now we're good forever" ...often...and mostly ignoring the ongoing upkeep; upkeep that would prevent them from looking like crap in the first place...to the point arguing for demolitions becomes easier. If much was demolished for the J.C. Wouldn't a multi-level garage incorporated into the lower levels of the center been more appropriate and feasible than demolishing a whole block! More erosion of pedestrian friendly designs: A scene more compatible for 4 wheels than 2 legs.
  6. They are not that great really.... certainly cannot be judged as good playing a beat up and young Cleveland team. The real tests with be the Rangers type teams and above. Won't get past the first series round, I predict. Did the thread change to "Tigers Discussion?"
  7. This is great news, to me, actually.... it will force them to actually be creative.
  8. Did anyone see this? Wow...look at the difference in density. It really should be called The Parking Lot District. http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/cleavelands-warehouse-district-1960s-vs-t
  9. The HL vehicles follow the same path as the streetcars once did. Reference old photos to see how they used center lanes while other traffic uses the outside lanes. Very similar, however a generation or two has never been accustomed to such a system.
  10. Top 10 magazines with bogus/pointless lists: 1. Forbes
  11. If it not this problem this week that caused them to lose....... surely it will be another next week, or worse, seeing the same crap as we have many times. Are players sleeping while watching game films or what?
  12. This "quiet doer" leave all of us wondering! And IMO it is not "creating new jobs" when one area benefits at the loss of another.
  13. Some of the best brick row apartment houses are in EC.
  14. The new structures will not outlast the old. This is what the disappointing part of "new construction" is. It looks nice and shiny for a while...but just give it a few years before the boo boos start appearing. I am sure many of the structures could have been renovated, but demolition is big business, eh?
  15. ^True... But I think a lot of us are just licking our wounds. Its as though going 1-0 is an impossible dream...Like Sweet Sensation sings... Ha!
  16. Please Cleveland...get a pro-rugby team! I need an alternative!
  17. Once again, especially after a torrent of showers, a few hundred pounds of litter were "harvested" from Edgewater Park/Beach---with such only scratching the surface. There are many more volunteers needed to make a real impact and demonstrate that Cleveland cares about...and takes pride in its waterfront/shoreline areas. When you see litter, picking it up helps always. At both Euclid beach and Edgewater, you may have begun to notice some signage. I will try and provide an example. Thanks to the many who made this possible.
  18. No matter the coach, players, or system...for years this team has failed time and again to make key plays at crucial times on either side of the ball, and sometimes the fate of the game comes down to such plays....and today was a testament to the fact. How many dropped passes that were not perfect, but catchable? Defense blows coverage on two plays resulting in T.D.'s... If you cannot learn the fundamentals, you do not deserve to be playing at this level. This will carry on throughout the season....just watch. I'll spare myself, however. Cincy is mediocre at best, and we prove we cannot beat teams we should beat....and you think this will get easier? HA!!! So sick of this SH!! where it comes down to basically two or three plays!
  19. More parking lots and demolitions, would not surprise me in the least. But as someone stated...look at the photo and we see that the majority of space downtown there is reserved for cars and not people. So what justifies all the parking is baffling to me....and I have to wonder....for what would the parking serve if all the buildings that house office, work, and play spaces are eventually gone? Yes, worse case scene, but not impossible given the track history and the fact the same 70's mistakes of demolitions are still prevalent today; the mindset that thought demolishing Playhouse Square for parking would be a good idea. I welcome the day when..if we are going to have all these parking garages, that we may renovate some of them to actually look like living space with facades that disguise them. Still not fully digesting this whole design. I do have one question though...are their any plans at actually having on site stage entertainment in this casino that is more smaller club style? I mean not reverting to using the Q Arena for entertainment and calling it the casino entertainment place. Higbee's is surely big enough to create some sort of stage-like venue where Wayne Newton can sing! And RIP Robert Goulet.
  20. ^Exactly, so let's not another Columbia Building happen... Thy cannot "un-know" the fact that there is a lot of support for preservation. I also sent my letter to all the parties. By the way, the email address: [email protected] is not working.
  21. In addition to separate letters....Why not circulate a petition with one letter in support of preservation...and then submit it t all the addresses. This can be done very effectively on www.change.org I'll bet they would never expect this. The case for preservation can be stated in the letter on the petition. Who here, can draft a concise and compelling letter reminding of the benefits and reasons the building should be preserved and integrated? Surely not I.... It would be an essay. Anyway, this can be a very effective attention getter, especially when this case is posted publicly online--which is the purpose of the site. Advocates for a cleaner shoreline, locally, are doing this this with a litter issue and the signatures in support with extra comments has been very pleasing. All those email addresses and names can be included in the part where the petition is addressed. See: www.change.org
  22. ^ Indeed, some things cannot be measured immediately or easily in dollars and cents. If this helps boost civic pride and morale around here... to maybe result in people staying or coming...it is priceless. Such value should be considered, but doubtful you will get that in a publication dedicated to the bottom line of dollars and cents.
