What a shame! Will we ever learn.

Warren High School Facade - quick tour
Actually, by keeping the monument to stupidity, is a self admission of stupidity...so maybe its a good thing. A "poster child example", if you will.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Do the Browns have a Monday nighter this year? OMG... More embarrassment looms on the horizon! And Kudos to the brave guy who wore the Browns attire in PITT... We need more of that... The stench of theirs invades Browns stadium.

Pet Peeves!
^ That's so true! Just yesterday I was walking down the street and two girls, early 20 something were carrying on with an extremely irritating and annoying sounding valley girl nasally conversation that could be heard for a BLOCK. Other people who heard it just looked at each other and were like WTF? When I walked by I could not resist and just said with a friendly grin...... "Gee girls... are you sure you want the whole neighborhood to know what you're talking about?" I said it with a chuckle.... They stopped, thought for a moment, looked at each other as if DUHHH!... and said with again, a nasally tone.... "Oh.. LIKE ...How rude are you" (shake my head...slap my forehead...sighing, stopped for a brief second) I simply replied by plugging my nose and saying..... "Noooo....correction... Its LIKE... RUDE to so loudly impose your conversation on everyone else who doesn't want/need to hear it" Same goes for people who gab soooo loudly on their cell phones in public, like in a grocery store, for example.... almost as if on purpose..... they are trying to invite others into their inane dramas!

Warren High School Facade - quick tour
Indeed it's a mockery. I even think facadectomies are awful. But sending this to landfill is far from being a better alternative. Think of it this way. People will look at this, then at that po-mo school and go "What the hell were we thinking then" Yes...Good point. It could actually serve as a testament to a stupid decision. Warren has been tearing down its history for years. There is not even the original Mainstreet....and if for some reason the sports nuts thought tearing down the county court house would somehow help them build a new stadium...they'd do it. So not only would a classic court house go..but also a stadium where Ross/Joey Browner played and Paul Warfield! That is the kind of thinking that controls the school board.

Warren High School Facade - quick tour
A lot of people were not happy with the total tear down. But, I should point out again, that the end flanking additions on the school before demolition were built in the 1950's. Still they removed some original flanks from the center, anyway. What is really annoying is that the new school is pretty much cookie cutter crap.

^ Honestly, I agree... and I wish some people can forward these comments to the Warren Board of Education or "DEAD-ucation" and express these views. They are part of a big reason this has happened--And hence why 2 candidates are campaigning hard to get some of the stupidity off the school board.

Cleveland: Best Kept Secrets!
^ Great to point out Dike 14. That is a precious and RARE kind of spot along the lakefront. It is a true gem that few realize exists.

Warren High School Facade - quick tour
I tend to agree..although the facade looks nice... The overall appearance, especially to those who are used to seeing how it was, looks silly. My Grandfather was on the construction crews for the original school.

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
The photos look great. But I have a question...it looks as though the coating over the terra cotta takes away the 'tiled' appearenace. Is that how it looks only in the photos? How will that look when finished. I guess what I am saying is that it appears so smooth that you cannot see the tile appearenance.

A BUSiness Idea
Hey...might be a great idea.. Not to sway this, but one thing popped into mind about buses... What ever happened to the Cleveland Double Decker Buses that you'd see in recent years?

Progress! And somehow, even with all that extra pavement, and far fewer buildings, it's still a hellacious intersection for vehicular traffic. And pedestrians? Yikes... Amazing map shot... there is nothing left at all...except the gas station which now has even a much larger setback.

Warren High School Facade - quick tour
I was circa 86-87.... There was still a Warren Western Reserve.....the heated east side/west side rivalry. Coaches kept trying to get me to join the football team as tight end...But I was kind of reluctant about it like the coach was in taking the managers job of the Indians in Major League... ""How would you like to manage the Indians?"... "Ohhhh I dunnoooo" Ha! I knew people from the 88 through 91 class.

Warren High School Facade - quick tour
I graduated from this school...Much of the left and right wings that flanked the center shown here were built in the 50's as add-ons. But, I think they still demolished some original historic aspects as well...and tore down East Junior and other historically significant buildings... The new schools are crappy and will never hold their own like these did. Yes, this is better than nothing, but this city school board is a train wreck of unaccountability that has made decisions that have cost the community dearly. Many are not pleased with the demolitions of the schools and had shown many alternatives. Great photos!

^Granted, but I think it is all in how we can improve such a design. I am sure that the back can be made to look just as appealing and friendly as the front...Basically, the back is for the car crowd, the front is for the pedestrian crowd. Some lighting in the back and I think all can be designed to work perfectly.

Cleveland: Historic Photos
What I cannot understand is why we went to huge seas of pavement for parking lots with huge setbacks for the buildings..... If the time came to accommodate both pedestrian and auto traffic, when building anything newer at the time on the photo.......and even today, why not maintain the close setbacks and place the parking in rear, instead...with entrances in the back...sort of how Lakewood has it at that drugstore on Detroit... Was it a Discount Drug Mart or something? It has been a while since I lived near there, but that is the idea,....the auto traffic is accommodated while the curb/urban appeal preserved. This HUMONGOUS 300 foot setback and giant sea of pavement suburban model is so utterly unnecessary. Another thought is how disability UN-friendly the huge setback scene really is. The fact that those places (like in the burbs) have an army of handicap parking spaces that still requires a distance to walk for anyone who is legitimately disabled.....SOOOO, this model in the photo is actually better for the disabled....and the suburban model, where we seem to have so much 'disability' is not the way to go.

Cribbs KILLS the Steelers! But the Browns win those battles and lose the war... :-( Now I know how Steelers fans must have felt in the 60's.

Cleveland: Historic Photos
Here is a photo that demonstrates a sort of an 'extra downtown' this sort of area was pervasive in the city and they were very functional to the needs of residents, ie; bakery, fruit, hardware, clothiers, shoes, and other things... If there is a place for such photos please excuse the misplacement. The ends on the left and right were sliced off a bit, but you can see the density, pedestrian orientation and small setbacks to get the idea. Compare this photo with the same place today. Yikes...all emptiness!

Yes, at this point, I don't care what they wear because it cannot cover up the odors of the performances. But I must say....I like the old KK unis too.... Dave Logan...Reggie...where are you!

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
How about the urban design mindset for how many years now which has designed everything around the needs of 4 wheels, rather than two legs. A bad habit that its time has come to be broken.
