If you had the resources, how would you improve Cleveland?
Another thing I would do is get some kind of bottle return policy going here....to help eliminate some of the garbage laying all over the place. Sad it takes a cash incentive to promote less litter, but it would help. I would ban the use of commercial lawn chemicals, and go waaaayyy out there with some wishful thinking and ban fast food from the city, like Tuscany did.... and instead, get back to all we have lost.... promote a healthy populace body mind, soul...start an institution that will show people who think that the fake stuff is food....what real food is and how to prepare it, and hence debunk the pervasive myth that empowers this junk food industry..... that "it costs a lot to eat well and that there is no time to cook, etc".. We would not even be on the obesity list and we will produce a healthier higher quality gross domestic and national product. Clevelanders would be amongst the planets most handsome and brightest and worldly of people. I would give more incentives to help the resurgence of the local/independent, and family owned businesses so that when you come to Cleveland, you would hardly see a big chain entity. We would be very self supporting and have a very diverse economy that would breed stability in it. I'd also create much more greenspace right in the city featuring many native Ohio plants and trees, paying homage to "Cleveland's natural heritage" I would also buy every citizen a pass port and plain ticket to travel the world and get exposed to other cultures so that we may have a better understanding outside the bubble. I'd pipe in Lawrence Welk music in at bus stops where loitering and littering occur...and add the bubble machine as well as a deterrent. Lastly, I'd make all stockholders in Wal-Mart, be required to live right next to one.

Urban Ohio "Picture Of The Day"
Such a far cry from Edgewater where there are more black and mild tips than sand. That's the way all the G.L beaches should look. Let this be an example.

Cleveland: Downtown Storefront Displays
Attention! Does anyone want to volunteer a decent camera to begin taking photos of the completed storefronts so we can see these online? I have asked and should be able to get someone, however, they're full with their installation of the art. Who would like to be this expedition's official photographer? Message me or post here.

Ohio: GM, Ford, and Chrysler News & Info
Whoever above, implied that Oldsmobile and Buick was a bad product, in my opinion is mistaken. In the 80's/90's These two cars were very reliable. My work has driven me thousands of miles and of all the US makes/models out there... The Buick LeSabre and Cutlasses were among the most reliable and trouble free of cars. The ones I bought were good on fuel, solidly made, not a lot to maintain and just went forever. There were times they made them crappy, sure, but overall, that was a bread and butter item for GM. They were as close to higher quality in their price range that we had. That has been my personal experiences with them

A trip into West Virginia
^ Yes, I can enlighten you...those who are willing to learn. I refuse, because people like you get on here and make dismissive snive condescending, borderline personal attack remarks when the slightest criticism opens up on something, and I'm really over it. If you would like to discuss it personally...then call me. Contact # is on Edgewater thread. I get the impression you think we can do no wrong and that there is no room for improvement. AKA complacency. The moment I can share and explain why I say what I say... it will be axed as off topic.

A trip into West Virginia
^ That's not solely the problem. I used to work for them, trust me. Its a lame excuse. I could go on and on here about why it is... But then this would get way off topic. Let's just say they have spent far too much making the parks way too user friendly, marketing of them has promoted more influx than they can handle......then doing a deal with the devil on vending machines... That's just for starters.

Downtown Cleveland seen from the Terminal Tower.
I believe the original observation deck used to be higher...and there was an outdoor one as well, I think. If I owned the building, I'd re-open the higher deck and the outdoor one as well...and bring back that cool little soda fountain/snack area with black and white tile flooring that used to be up there in the early life of the building. The attraction and admission would be worth the investment in insurance to me. But, I don't own the place. Sorry! :-(

A trip into West Virginia
I think West Virginia is beautiful. It has some of the most spectacular scenery east of the Mississippi, gorgeous and impeccably-maintained state parks, and friendly, hospitable people. Yes, it has lost a lot of its economic base and some of its towns and cities are definitely on hard times, but I've always enjoyed my visits there. It's a splendid place in Spring and in Fall. I agree.... The state park system is wonderful. Hardly the litter and yabbos that invades ours.

Ohio: Casino / Gaming Discussion
Where times are tough, people drink and gamble on a wing and a prayer..Hence why we want to come to Cleveland so much because we think those suckers are so desperate that they'll whore themselves out to anything as long as we spew the 'jobs and taxes' propaganda. But, we all know how altruistic the gaming industry is. I am sure they're my benefactor and want to help me as it is in their good hearts to do so. We need to not think for ourselves and become something really different and unique, but instead copy cat other places who jumped on the bandwagon. Just look how Detroit's woes were cured. I am sure ours will be soooo different that it will lure not only all the high end rollers here in Ohio, but attract all of them from Vegas and surrounding states too. Since other states have it, we must now do this to counter it under the guise, fear mongering and bullying that it will 'keep money here' but we ignore the many possible drains this could have on society, but helping to foster a dysfunctional society. We really should continue to economically type-cast ourselves by getting this one last reaffirming attribute going. But I know... I know...They (gaming industry)really care about all of us and all Ohioans will have a job, and we can add this to a list of wonderful things we like to call economic development like cash advance check cashing places, tattoo parlors, fast food joints, boom car outfitters--all of which create numb and dumb people... But we don't care.. We'll just make stupid look cool and we're good to go! Cannot wait to see the daggy obese, the down and out..the compulsives, etc..etc.. spending their rolls of pennies at the slot machines in the hope of hitting it big! Then, they may be able to afford $20.00 worth of fresh groceries to prepare a simple healthy meal from a few fresh ingredients...slow food fast, to give a counter knock out punch and answer to the myths of fast food. Those who wind up on assistance from pissing their money away will be scorned by the biggest supporters of the casinos.... Life will be good. Yes, these are definitely something we need to use as the foundation of the economy...build one around. All will heal and if not, we can skew the numbers to make people think all is healed. Sooooo.. YES.. I vote for this truly unique and one of a kind item....YES!! Uhhhh... No. Mike Pigasonno rules! He is the panacea of all the truth...NPR is for dummies! :-P

UrbanOhio - Edgewater Beach Group Cleanup
^^ Well, we will see how it goes. Maybe we can squeeze one more in. I will be in Australia for a couple months to three... this winter. I am staying in constant contact with the ODNR HQ and new park management. It would help if others wrote, phoned, or emailed their concerns nicely to Glen Cobb at ODNR, division of parks. He has been very receptive to getting some good change implemented at this park. I'll get the address posted. Naturally, this is a high use park, so this beach deserves to be combed more than once a year! Yes...that's about all they do, which, besides people tossing them onto the ground on the street.....so they get washed into the storm drain.... is one reason we get more black and mild tips, etc..etc.. on the beach, than sand! The combing would get sooo much of this out of the sand. I believe we also found a poopie diaper.. Imagine having that squish between your toes on a warm summer day.

UrbanOhio - Edgewater Beach Group Cleanup
Well, this is basically what I was talking about in the new "How would you improve Cleveland?" thread, when I mentioned grasping a hold of improving basics first.... Keeping our beaches clean and parks...is a basic concept that this city has yet to grasp in unity. If they did, we would not tolerate this condition and demand much more. The city should look as good in person as it does in the photos. Yesterday, I had another long talk with ODNR and we will be placed in touch with the new management at the park. I made a list of 10 factors they need to improve upon at this park--all very basic. The improvement starts with the staff being held more accountable and establishing a much more visual anti-littering policy and presence in the park. If anyone would like to hear the details of the discussion, just message me. While many people may get sick of my rants on my posts about such stuff...I know no one likes to see our parks like this....sooo Imagine how sick we all are of seeing conditions like the ones in the photos and how it does nothing positive for Cleveland's image/environment/economy. If they (City/ODNR, Paper, etc) get more calls about this condition, it can only help the effort. Keeping this under control is an ongoing issue. Next Clean Sweep.... Last Saturday in November... Bring a friend, a rake... Maybe we can do the lower part too. Share these photos as well so it is not out of sight/out of mind.

Actually, we should expand the rail to outer areas because we cannot deem ourselves "Regional Transit Authority" RTA, when the region is undeserved in rail. Maybe we'd get a broader demographic of people riding transit, given the choice, so the transport system shakes the image that only poor people ride it. And, contrary to this totally over touted one sided view of re-locating the port.... There is a much better sustainable and visionary view on how to do that w/o destroying a recovering shoreline, spending less money to do it....and getting you all the goodies too, to boot, which POC blindly promises. You will see how what they're doing is actually illegal in a certain respect....anyway... That vision can be seen at future meetings of which I will post. back to basics, as a city, let's learn to get the basics right first... Like the school system.. Great point. Many of the grandiose plans are suited for tourists, and not addressing some of the immediate quality of life needs of stakeholders in the community. In other words, be good with what you already have, first...then all else is icing on the cake. Might be nice to show that the city can actually do something about its severe trash/litter issues, before getting a bunch of swell buildings....that will be surrounded with trash, and look dated because of lack of upkeep. And yes, the problem here is disproportionate to our size. Basics...Basics.. Master the BASICS, Cleveland, first.

If you had the resources, how would you improve Cleveland?
I would improve the place by teaching the basics that we have not yet grasped. Simple maintenance around the city, on buildings....Set up an institution that will teach the population why we should not litter... Better enforcement of laws that address quality of life issues.. I'll get back to this later, but really, I would focus on getting the simple basics right first. Here is a city with grandiose ideas and plans, yet cannot even replace a streetlight, so to speak.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Downtown Cleveland severely lacks a needed green space such as London or Sydney's Hyde Park. As I posted much earlier, I think when people get a taste of having quality laid out greenspace with some signature "Cleveland natural heritage trees" amidst the concrete jungle, they will grow to really appreciate what they've been missing out on. 'Natural' in the city never goes out of style, is up and coming, and is never enough. Imagine a river that has seen the last 200 years of its banks and riparian zones being abused, reverting to something much more sustainable and green, implemented carefully with developments. What a contrast example of a turn-around message that will send to even the most ardent of "Isn't that these place where the river caught fire?" jokers. Albeit, I don't think this space will be designed with longevity in mind. I think it will simply be a sterile mono-culture field of lifeless suburban chemically dependent style turf grass. But if people could see what they could have--something that is meticulously well planned---and how such a space could be designed, I'll make a safe bet that 90% of the people would favor keeping it green. There is really no picture to chose from though--But I will make reference to The Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney. Priceless! Just do a Google map over their harbor and see them right near the Opera House. Absolutely stunning! Some people really do not know what they're missing out on...while other cities who boast this attribute, bask in the glory of praise by all who experience it as it adds investment attraction and value. Better than "Your river stinks and burned!"

Statewide: Issue 2 - Livestock Care Standards
That's fine and fair, but I'm not debating it. I've read it, and decided what I'll vote. I posted it for others who may want to do their own research and discussion about it, full stop.

Statewide: Issue 2 - Livestock Care Standards
There is a PR spin going on right now that makes looking like voting "Yes" on Issue 2 will assure food/animal/family farm/environment safety and/or sustenance. Actually, that is the opposite of what is true. The vote "Yes" propaganda has big bucks backing it and is very deceptive.
