Well, the laugh is on her... This bride actually has good taste!

I agree with that. One peeve I have is wedding dress...when there are women in the bridal party with big huge blubbery arms wearing sleeveless attire.... Uh "Uh..no... Cover some of that... it ain't purrty fer the camRA" Not making fun of anyone at all....but please wear something that compliments you and does not expose and exploit parts like that. Wow, that's a terrible comment to make, man. And bridesmaids don't get to pick their dresses. There is nothing so terrible about it. If I had such arms, I would be aware of the fact such an outfit is not appropriate. Yes, I am aware of the fact of the bridesmaids not picking dresses...and once again, a simple point was missed. The finger is pointed at the bride...who imposes these kinds of dresses on an entire party of female participants with the arm thing going on as I was talking about. Bad selection for the body type. I have seen many wedding parties where all had the arm thing going on...and all were having to wear such a dress. What is the bride thinking?

I'm aware of all that.....But, maybe she should think of some other things as well...one being you don't put sleeveless clothing on huge arms. Its not flattering to the wearer...or the camera....or the wedding. The right clothing on the other hand showcases things in a whole new light.
  4. ^ Woah! Not good... Good luck if you write to RTA...and congrats if you even get a response.

  6. Taco Bell has gotten disgusting... Used to go once in a while but then the GMO tomatoes were getting to me. That sign.. "Zantigo" I have seen that before..
  7. How funny! I have often watched this sort of thing too... AND notice really BAD conversions that simply look tacky... The check cashing thing is a good example. I am all for adaptive re-use...But when I see no 'adapt' in the re-use... I want to vomit! btw.. My brother and sister worked at Red Barn in the 70's.
  8. Heh, I like the bags made from bags. And it wasn't just me!!!! X worked hard too! Ohhh yeah....That's right!!! He did help you! Sorry "X"... Kudos to your many talents including cleaning something the right way. Thanks!
  9. If someone has a poster with Urban Ohio information on it... I can make it a part of the window display program.

^ Agreed...As I see it...The typical person these days dresses like a slob...makes no effort to at least clean up a bit... I am not saying we need to dress 5 star for every little thing....Nor is it about vanity to just look respectable and professional a bit more often---especially in situations that require such. Typical male these days... Sneakers...shorts, and a tee with some corporate advertising nonsense on it. Or, guys with guts tucking their casual dress shirts in until it hugs their bellies so tightly to the point they look pregnant. I like looking at the really old photos of Cleveland and many places and seeing how the gals and guys dressed... I thought they looked really smart...and the women looked classy! Go out to a nice dinner.... dress up a bit...make it a special event and experience...and please, when will the styles in America can the tapered at the ankles trousers! As I had the Marco Polo bug and traveled...even in many a humble places, I was impressed to see the sense of style/pride the average guy on the street had.... The women... Wow! Stunning!
  11. Ok, this is not a great photo.... But, it was taken on a cell phone. By the way, Doc...People were saying how well you prepped the place! I also have some art featuring native aquatic life...its beautiful. I may consider donating it for an aquatic themed display.
  12. There is an update here.... Today, a small starter display was installed at the Park Building. This was a 'message' display and it is important we don't have the front looking too busy to the point it deters attention from...and drowns out the message. Additionally, one too full will block the view of the actual space, which would defeat the purpose of people looking into it as a possible space to lease. Other displays will be more full and busy.. But I would say this is a good start in less than a week in getting it all done by volunteers. We will add more.... There were a lot of positive comments offered by passersby as well as from the management of the Park Building. Thanks to Jesse Howells in helping to be the first to offer a space to get the program kicked off! It will be subtly lit at night...and as more displays are implemented, they will evolve. We will also be doing upkeep on them for the duration of their existence. The small display was to send a 'please don't litter' message. By the way Doc, the footprint on the counter will be cleaned! Sorry about that...it was an accident!
  13. ^ Go discuss this with Larry Henry...and Nance at Highlands.... They will give you all the stats you want...and will tell you how Columbus/Chil. and Cir. pose a 'bumping into' for Highlands. To the trained eye, it is clear.
  14. ^ There was actually a comment or two in the PD that seemed to suggest that GANGS were a benefactor to the neighborhood! Obviously it was someone who resented the fact that the Guardians would now be on the watch...and that perhaps he could not continue to resort to his usual lawless ways. The comment was on an article about the G's a few weeks ago.

Yeah, I understand, but this over sensitivity can be too much to me. I think the schools should stay historical. There is a reason they were given historical names. I totally agree.... If you want to build a new place...and name it for someone, fine.. BUT, you don't go re-labeling all the old institutions that were named after earlier philanthropists. That is a slap in the face to them...especially if they donated the property and money in some capacity. A slight example is in the Wade Park Elementary School, scenario where some want it renamed in honor of Fannie Lewis. With no disrespect to the late Councilwoman, doing so would be disrespectful to Jeptha Wade. If they build a new school on another property, or a wing......fine.... But to alter names totally is an utter and just plain WRONG disrespect and regard to the original namesake and history in general. Politically correctness should not get to the point where we have society walking over eggshells afraid to speak the mind just for fear it may not suit completely well with someone else's ideas. You can be so politically correct to the point the truth might get buried because we will never end up being flat out honest with one another.
  16. The problem with a lot of the businesses here is the inconsistency in their hours. That alone, will be off-putting to patrons. I know that many are run as a second in life (the small ventures) and they open when they feel they will get the most business....but at some point, someone has to be a bit more pioneering and break this 'close at 4' cycle and at least remain open until 8 for those who cannot get to such places until then. It will be rough at first, but eventually, I see the business picking up at such places. Well, here is another opportunity for a store-front window display... Can someone pass me along the information on a contact of that space? What is really sad...is that in the article... the moment you scroll down to the comments... Look what the first one says! Then, you will have the fool who somehow blames it all on Kucinich! Well, I couldn't get past the first...
  17. ^ Ohio is not land rich these days, contrary to popular chamber driven beliefs....sprawl is happening in every community, practically...large and small This (Highlands) and parts of Shawnee State park are the only two areas Ohio has what is technically deemed 'true wilderness' in the professional view. Our state ranks near the bottom in available open space and public lands for largely nature preserved buffer areas like state parks, forests...But near the top in demand for such. It cracks me up when people from Cleveland, or Columbus, move onto 2 or three acres and think it is 'countryside' , 'natural', or even 'wilderness' If they saw places that are really constituted as wilderness through the eyes of the wildlife professionals...they would see the obvious difference. On farm land, I think the last stat I received from the Ohio Farm Bureau was that Ohio loses some 2 or 3 hundred acres per day to sprawl, statewide average. Don't hold me on that...But if anyone looks it up, I am sure it would come pretty close..and this is just farm land. The problem Highlands fears right now, IS the fact that Columbus sprawl is beginning to bump into them. They never used to see city lights/glow in the sky years ago from there...Now they are.. and with Chillocothe adding their own sprawl..and Circleville, etc... Well, it is just a matter of time, which is why they are trying to buy up all the land they can.

^ Same here.... My Grandfather... and mother straight from Italy... Fortunately, my father was smart enough to get a lot of recordings of his voice, so to this day, we go back and listen to some of the hilarious things he said!
  19. I do in a way.... But in some ways....especially since I know people who live on the islands.... Maybe its better not, as it may invite in a lot of riff raff... I would hate to see Kelly's spoiled with over tourism, people who litter, are loud and just turn the place upside down...ultimately ruining the very allure that attracted people there in the first place. Hawaii is learning this.
  20. When people take the time to learn all about what the Guardians are......we discover there are so many mis-conceptions of them. I actually talked with a few of their leaders and am considering becoming one. I had them speak at a block club meeting and these days...when you hear about all the advantages of having their presence, it becomes a no-brainer to have them help to create connections in neighborhoods and re-establish 'community' The first thing they like to wipe clear is the misguided conception that they're all about busting heads and being vigilantes. They have a very complex and thorough training course...do not take on board just anyone....and use a lot of psychology to deal with issues.... If necessary, they will make citizens arrests as a last resort---and being that they are citizens, they are not held liable or cannot be, for violating someone's rights. They're all good. I am talking with Luis this week... Glad they're here in Cleveland. And most of their presence is because again...what I have said all along....many do not comprehend what it means to respect law and rules and to behave respectfully in a communal setting...and to be social..and not anti-social. As for the red berets.... Weeeeeelll.... It could be worse! Ha!
  21. ^ You're absolutely correct, and Ohio needs more of this big time. See www.highlandssanctuary.org where they have a wonderful occurrence of "WOODLAND-sprawl!"
  22. ^ ^Yeah...that makes sense....I thought it had something to do with all the setbacks, and details on the upper floors. Can't wait to see the entire thing lit up! Are all the new windows in? Any still needing replaced?
  23. ^ Totally agree... can a small group of people 'adopt-a-tunnel?' At the least, keep it swept and litter free? Maybe Cleveland Public Art would be interested in painting a mural there....
  24. ^ I was intrigued how they were able to work on the main shaft w/o shrouding the entire thing in the scaffolding as in the upper floors.
