Cleveland: Best Kept Secrets!
This sounds interesting. I never thought much of bands or music venues being best kept secrets...But you have stirred my imagination. I will expand on this musical idea about a small group of singers from Cleveland, who perform area wide. They are called "The Sounds Of Integrity" and they are true vocal pros who sing everything from 50's/60's Rock and Roll, to Classic Soul and R&B from the 60's through 90's. Adult Contemporary and Jazz...Doo Wop..and even some Classic 70's Rock Tunes like The Doobie Brothers' "Long Train Runnin' " They also perform a lot of Philly Soul, like The Stylistics, Blue Magic, The Whispers, and the impeccable Delfonics...and even some Earth Wind & Fire. You can remove the sound track (they wil also work with live bands) and hear just their voices go at it and they are BRILLIANT! One of the members does a great Barry White and another a great Wil Hart and Disco Inferno tune with a raspy voice! They appeal to all ages and music tastes. Everyone who goes to see them enjoys the performance.

Cleveland: Best Kept Secrets!
Free, Are you talking about the homes along East Blvd/Wade Park? Can anyone post some photos? I agree...there are still good places east. Some of the most handsome homes where a simple coat of paint and proper historic color scheme would do wonders. Oh, and by the way, I have a secret.... What about the swing suspension bridge? The only bridge of its kind in Cleveland. It is closed and dilapidated, but would be good to preserve if possible. It is a foot bridge. Anyone know about this? Photos?

Cleveland: Best Kept Secrets!
The view near luke easter park you're talking about is at 93rd and Kinsman as you're heading down the bridge. This just might be my favorite view of the skyline in the whole city. I also agree with you on Larchmere. Its gives a great view of the top of the skyline. I also like the view at Buckeye and Woodhill. Thanks for clearing this one up for the exact spot. I know it may not be the best spot to take time to take a lot of photos because of the traffic...limited area to get perched up to take some...or even the sketchier places intertwined for that matter.. But this is a spot where I wish we could see more photos.

Yes! I forgot about that... Is this part of the brownstone row houses? That is a great place as well. Any photos?

Ohio's last commuter train - EL's Cleveland-Youngstown service
I look at this itinerary and it makes me sick to think this was actually an option. Now, there is little choice except being forced to drive.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
Good idea. Otherwise its business as usual. Looks like development at any cost...as long as it is development. That's what I mean about aspiring for more than average.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
Sorry I don't buy that as "Euclid Avenue" is not a completed project. One phase/portion is done, transit. :? That was my point. But if there is no planning on the types of developments that go it, especially at this initial phase, the street will never live up to its potential. It will be another wasted opportunity. But this is a few blocks, not the entire avenue. That like me saying to the people on Cormere, you beneath me and don't deserve to live in the shadow of my building. Well, it may be like saying that...but until some are prepared to live in a communal setting without being self destructive, then that's how it will come across.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
I actually agree with this article. I do not think ALL of Euclid is this way, though. I have always felt that diversity in the economy breeds stability...and to keep developing our economy around health care or things related...is just as short sighted as it was to build it around the golden egg of the steel industry, as Youngstown did in the past, and yet again in the auto industry. The resulting scenario was imminent---when those industries failed, everything else that was intertwined with them somehow took a hit as well. Why is history repeating itself? Euclid should be a place for aspirations that exceed the mediocre...a place where independent and local/national entrepreneurial interests can consider setting up home or shop. Instead, we chose to make that part of Euclid (of all other places this could happen) a banner tribute to social dysfunction and failure....and right on what is supposed to be the grand showcase avenue of Cleveland! It is really undermining to the avenue's past history. I am not saying it will be the same scenario as in Ohio City, but look what catering sooooo much, to this sector of society has contributed to there. Many transients fly in and out like going through a revolving door...and leaving a torrent of trash in the wake. Last Friday, I walked along Franklin Blvd. between W.29th to what I thought was about 54th or 8th.. (always get that confused!) Also along Clinton in the same distance and on all the side streets in between. Let me put it like this...when your most dominant flower is Wild Irish Rose...you have a problem! Me and a person from the Urban Ohio forum retrieved 5 bags of trash, most all of which roots from transients walking through who make use of the services. I should note that we try and do this once a month, but this stuff falls like rain and could be done daily! It devalues the neighborhood and lake, if washed down via stormdrains. You don't suppose there could be any correlation between that sort of thing and the fact this neighborhood has the most social service oriented establishments in the city? Harmless or not...It becomes a turd in the punch bowl for what is supposed to be a showcase avenue through the neighborhood. Although a great neighborhood...many realize and feel that such is one of the things that holds it back from getting to the next level. I can see a post card idea now: "Welcome To Franklin Blvd.. in lovely Cleveland, Ohio" with a photo of the drunk passed out, surrounded by trash in front of a dilapidated house that could be a gem. Don't know.. That is not the image I want to send immediately of the grand street when I take people down the Blvd. but sadly, it sometimes is. If anyone thinks this sort of thing does not deter investment and living interest.... they're sadly mistaken. Could such be the scenario that this particular part of Euclid will follow? It certainly has the seeds planted for such to grow already, with that bad selection of entities to be built. The point is...what stupid thinking plans to locate what was described in the article above, on your showcase avenue--a beacon to the world? Maybe the same who would use a toilet as a chair in their living room, and call it 'decor?' Sorry..but the guy is right. Learn from past mistakes.

Cleveland: Historic Hanna Fountains
Actually, there are some indigenous grasses such as big&little bluestem, implemented into the public art project--representing Ohio's natural heritage, which I thought was a nifty addition to promote more such island plantings in preference to energy consuming turf grass--which is basically an eco-dead zone. By the way, does anyone have any photos of the old Erieview Plaza? This spot also had fountains.

What about the Mill Creek development? That has possibilities. For a newer place, I thought it was well done.

Info on relocating to Cleveland area
Yes, Welcome.....From what you describe....For starters...Lakewood, West Park, Little Italy, C. Heights, S. Square and Hts, Tremont, Cedar Fairmount, Edgewater, Rocky River, Brooklyn, Newburgh...Can I get away with mentioning Parma? :? :-o I actually think it has some interesting ethnicities to it in its own right...And..a tribute to the era we all remodeled our basements with paneling...installed a bar and decorated with the latest bar lights and other bar gadgets!!! Depends on what you're used to.. Inner, outer city or burbs environment...all are still within close proximity to the center of town. I am sure others can make better suggestions. I don't have kids. Oh, and on a side note.. (not to the new coming folks...but for MTS). Just wondering.. Don't you think if you are the second one posting on a new thread.... that it would be automatically understood that your reply is to the one above you, therefore not really needing to hit the quote button? Ha! :-D

Urban Ohio "Picture Of The Day"
Is that hair all over his back?

Beechwold, Columbus
Well, let me put it like this... Most of these places do nothing to promote local produce, and sustainable ethical farming practices...everything to increase energy consumption....and it is just not my cup of coffee to go to clone zone places when I can get superior product from independent/locally owned establishments where I know who is handling my food and where it came from. As for the chain gang... Well, They're not my benefactor as many are conditioned to think about such entities. And its fine if you want to support it, but don't disrespect others' decisions not to.

In October 2006, McDonald's fully divested its investment in Chipotle, part of a larger initiative to divest all of its non-core business restaurants – Chipotle, Donato's Pizza, and Boston Market – so that it could squarely focus on the main McDonald's chain. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4188/is_20061016/ai_n16781055/ That's nice.. I just don't support these kinds of businesses.

Nice..Love the bucolic look...the trees make it come all together. The only thing I cringe at are the chains like Panera Bread..... and Chipotle, which is simply Mc Donald's wearing Mexican clothing, or trying to.

Yes, something functional/convenient for residents.

Cleveland: Tyler Village
Nice. These buildings are also handsome and not the typical industrial buildings. I hope more emphasis is applied to their exterior restoration as well. At least cleaning.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
the problem with the circulators is two-fold: 1) by the board's service policy, they are the least used service on a number of metrics; and 2) politics. so, as times continue to get tough (as predicted in 2010 tax budget for RTA), more service reductions and more fare increases may be in store. however, it is my understanding that the staff can't "save" 1 or 2 circulators that might be doing better than others, b/c the board policy dictates how to rank service. the circulators for the past few years have been at the bottom of the list, and by policy, are the first to be cut. the board could potentially intervene and save a few routes, but this would also set a bad precedent of introducing politics and abandoning the adopted policy for staff to follow. the circulators are also less expensive to ride, which is one of the reasons there is always popular support for the service. my guess is that over the next month a number of big bus routes will be tweaked to better serve areas where circulators will be removed. not everyone will be happy for sure, but so much service has been cut over the past few years, there are no easy cuts left imo. Do you think such services could ever be restored? Or, once they cut this, that's it? It would be good to expand buses in certain areas that circulators once served...as long as the streets can accommodate them. I actually used to ride one of the circulators a lot.. My sister planned on moving back and I thought they'd be good... But now I guess we will have to make other considerations. Please, though..no car, I hope.

Cleveland: Best Kept Secrets!
Ok, my take on this is not a real 'secret' I guess, but maybe underrated views of downtown--as I never see them much in photos....... But there is a view when traveling straight down Larchmere going North Westerly.... that you can see ONLY the terminal Tower and the older surrounding buildings. I imagine this view is exactly the same as it was since 1930. Another interesting view is traveling west down Prospect and seeing the Rose Building in the foreground....and the Terminal Tower in the background.... And, the view of downtown from the top of the slope on Woodland, is it??? Someone help me....near Luke Easter Park. The little buildings in "Little Poland" in Slavic Village..... I will think of others.... More after these messages!

Cleveland: Local Media News & Discussion
Sums it up well.. I just caught this story. I am a bit behind on the comments...But all I can say is that when in a day and age such a paper should be promoting the opposite trend...this promotes archaic outmigration habits of the past. You cannot 'be green' if this happens. All I can say is that I have absolutely had it with this garbage publication. Shameful... Let the editor have it in every way to let them know why. And as someone else said...stop with the editorializing. I do that a lot and it annoys the hell out of people... But I am not a publication. like this, who's duty is to be investigative, cover facts and all sides to issues...and balance to cover some of the good things happening---not the same old same old story, that does nothing but to help foster and maintain the N.E. Ohio inferiority complex.
