Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I wrote to about 10 people. I hope people here do the same. The committee is mostly Republican, so I doubt they'll be public transport minded. Maybe I am wrong...But the best predictor of the future is the past. And these are issues thet have not been too kind on. Did anyone else here write? How about RTA using less circulators, BUT, have then serve more area? From the PD article, it seemed there was much protest to the decision to stop them.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Who would be good representatives to send a note to on this matter? I get so tired of writing on issues like this and getting these form letters back, that are the same responses no matter what side of an issues I'm on. This state cannot possibly continue to sustain this ever-costing sprawl agenda. I wonder what happens when there is nothing rural left as Ohio becomes one giant suburb with state parks, etc..being mere overcrowded and used green islands.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
As someone who used to work in animal control services, (which was really more like "people control"--keeping idiot humans from doing un-evolved unspeakable things to animals) Has anyone ever witnessed dog fighting? I wonder how many people actually know anything about the brutal rotten sub-culture behind it that promotes and glamorizes violence and crime? Maybe they'd think otherwise about such punishment being inappropriate. I can share some of the shocking horrors if anyone likes. Its far worse than the title conveys. I actually had a lot worse in mind for "Con-VICK" and yes, the Stallworth thing was a royal and pathetic joke in contrast..yes... Minimum 5 years for anyone else, isn't it? Or 4? For Karma, here is the scenario... If this fool Vick, is allowed to play again, every dog loving defensive lineman will have a bounty on his head in the game.. and squash him like a grape. For Stallworth..who is 'worth-LESS' on the field anyway, he probably gets a career ending injury. If either of these guys had any kind of self respect and respect for life in general....they'd resign from the game. Shameful. And then fans are stupid enough to buy into it by paying their salaries going to games. Oh, yes, I love dogs! Here is my best girlfriend below!! Didn't Ghandi say something like.. "The morality of a nation is assessed by how it treats its animals" or something similar to that. He was a wise man.

To serve 4 years for doing above said crimes is in their mind, probably doing something noble. Bring back the concept of "Scared Straight!"

Rockandroller... So basically I am smelling another case of rural/sprawl funding is king? Do you think there is a chance of reversing this decision in any way?

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Before cutting a service...it would be better to raise a fare or add one...instead of doing away with the service. Maybe ridership is low for RTA in some areas because maybe they need to do a more professional job running this thing. I ride it, I use it as often as I can---but to be honest, if they want to attract new riders then they need to clean up their act...many of the bus stops are filthy...some drivers are rude with no personality...and are BAD drivers. I had to report a bus twice once. I have written to them about any problem I had, called them...no return contact. Maybe if they act a bit less complacent on obvious issues, ridership might increase ad it may be attractive a package enough for attracting new riders!

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Just thought I would post this great photo from a book I used to have about Browns history. It came out in 1972. Look at this...when the game was REAL..and DIRTY!!! Kind of difficult to post as it was a book! In fact, I have more fun watching old NFL highlights from the 60's on You Tube, than today's products...especially the Browns. I can't stomach what I witnessed last season...Hope you Browns fans enjoy the photo!

Cleveland: Best Kept Secrets!
Ok, there is a similar thread about "favorite Cleveland places to show off" I want to throw something out a little different.... We all know the great sites...BUT...do we know of any hidden gems? Lesser known places/areas that could be called "Cleveland's Best Kept Secrets?" It could be a street...homes, restaurant, park, building, nature-related, a story, a cool view, shopping, etc... Not a favorite place.. But a lesser known best kept secret, that you might wonder why it does not get more attention.... Ok... Have at it!....

Game Geeks On Hope Bridge!
That was too funny! ROFLMAO Kids are funny when they think something new to them - but old and tired to us - is "hot". The "crap catcher" concept was inspired by me watching COPS and seeing these guys try and run in those pants....they're running scared and crap their pants in the process----BUT, the crap won't smear all over their butt cheeks because there is plenty of room in the crap catchers where it can settle. I thought these guys looked like such fools. Those are the last kind of pants you want to be wearing if you are going to have to run from the cops! Ha! Yes, I know what you mean... My sister and me try and tell my niece that some of the clothes we see these days they think it new and hot...are actually inspired by some 70's clothes...the little flair at the ends of the pants... I could point out a few more, but I would have to see the article of clothing. Cannot think of the names.

Cleveland: Favorite thing to show off
Yes... I was actually going so fast I thought my wheels were going to fall off... Scary... I cannot imagine those who do those mountain races in France and how fast they must get going.

Cleveland on December 7, 1989.
I remember that! I was listening to it on the radio in my apartment (Lakewood) It was a really nice late summer night...and shows like The Wonder Years, Roseanne, and Doogie Howser MD were all premiering!

Cleveland: Favorite thing to show off
Anyone have an idea of how bikeable this stretch is outside of Lakeshore and MLK through the park? I might choose to start in the Heights if I were biking the thing but it seems like a great way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon. The hills are a bitch. Up Cedar, Fairhill or Fairmont is tough. Hills?? HA! You haven't biked hills in a city until you bike Sydney, or San Fran.... Cake, what is mentioned above. Great natural interval workout. Love it! :-D

Game Geeks On Hope Bridge!
Well, it does look a bit silly...But, I'll take this any day than a lot of the garbage you see going around today doing the same thing over and over... with butt cracks hanging out in crap catcher pants falling to the ground...glamorizing prisoner attire. Some of the 70's styles are back...and it makes me laugh when my niece thinks this stuff is new.

Cool Post Card Photo Of Playhouse Square, Cleveland!
Kind of a late reply, here... A big purpose such a card can illustrate to much younger people (as the 16 year old in the story above), is that shopping, business, living, etc..was not always confined to the sprawl scene. I think such a card offers many elements to inspire to try and achieve similar urban core activity in the future. I see jpop's point, as there are people who would look at such a scene and interpret it as "we'll never be the same again" On the other hand, Those who have associated Cleveland with nothing but negative (the N.E. Ohio inferiority complex, as I call it) and have known only that, and actually think it..... may be surprised to see that their city 'was not always like this' as they may perceive it, or have been conditioned to think. I see it as inspiring someone like that to resurrect many positive elements that can be seen in such a photo. I saw it as glass half full, plus.... I also really like old postcards of just about anything! I may decorate my place with some classic shots enlarged. I guess there are a couple ways to interpret such a photo. My 15 year old niece sees all this stuff I have and then gets excited about actually going to see some of the great buildings, etc.

CLEVELAND - synopsis of cancelled projects
Interesting structure... I like the 'bird cage'-like features higher up. Now this may seem like a stupid idea.....But for those who would like to see some additional skyline additions.....wouldn't it be kind of fun to somehow, project an image of this building and maybe others, live, into the skyline at night... Much like Disney World generates images of ghosts at The Haunted Mansion, or how N.Y. projects those light streams up into the sky at ground zero. Just a cool thing to do with lighting and projection. Like Disney uses a real image of a manican to produce the ghost, this could be done using a model skyscraper--then magnified. Poof! There is your instant skyline additions, without worrying about possible vacancies and white elephants! all simply for amusement and image. Kind of like the laser lights. And you can shut off the lights in the morning!

Terminal Tower.
I wonder how much it would cost today to build this building with pretty much very similar or same materials, less improvements on windows and mechanics. today? Also, are you saying that GAP&W was a spin-off of D.B.? Fabulous photos! Look how long the trains were under the tower!

Terminal Tower.
The flagpole is 70 feet, making the total height 778 feet. Generally - according to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (the folks generally used for official height), spires/antennas are considered part of the building's design but flagpoles have a more decorative role. It's splitting hairs if you ask me, but oh well. Interesting. You're right.. splitting hairs on that one... Another question...What about Empire State, when the antennas were added later..and not part of the original design. (when King Kong was up there, they didn't exist!) Do those get added to the total height? If so, why do they allow something like that--which was not part of the design? Just trying to see if we can squeeze a few more feet out of our tower!

Spectacular!!! Wasn't that "Light Up Cleveland Night" in '86? Looks like it... Browns beat Cincinnati 17-7 on what I think was a Monday or Thursday night special. I remember that!
