  1. Much easier to sell a tower downtown than a massive suburban campus(es). Is Chase still here in the same capacity if they just had a tower or two to take over in the merge? Same goes for Abbott Nutrition. Ross built out at Easton before Easton was even a vision. Are they still here as Abbott Labs' Nutrition HQ if they could have easily just sold a small tower downtown?

  3. Twinkies are sold! J.M. Smucker scoops up Hostess Brands for $5.6 billion "It's a sweet deal for Hostess — and spreads the peanut butter and jelly empire of J.M. Smucker: The storied maker of Twinkies, Ho-Hos, Ding Dongs, Zingers and other long-lasting sugary treats is being bought by the leading snacking conglomerate. The total price tag is a whopping $5.6 billion — a huge scoop for Hostess, which has gone through bankruptcy not once but twice in the past two decades. That included a few months when Twinkies disappeared from the shelves. Smucker had to fight to snag Hostess, prevailing over several big rivals that reportedly included PepsiCo, Oreo maker Mondelez International and Cheerios maker General Mills." https://www.npr.org/2023/09/11/1198741169/smucker-hostess-brands-twinkies
  4. Looks like Scioto Downs is getting a Guy Fieri restaurant. Not sure which one.
  5. At 2:30 Google is announcing from their New Albany site yet another investment.
  6. New OSU Master Plan Calls for Street Changes, New Wave of Development Some of the proposed projects include: New dorm buildings on both the south and north sides of campus. Another round of construction on the Wexner Medical Center Campus. A collection of new buildings where St. John Arena now stands. A large new parking garage on Lane Avenue near SR-315. The continued development of Carmenton, the 270-acre district south of Lane Avenue and west of Kenny Road that was formerly known as the West Campus Innovation District (several new buildings have already been completed there). Plans for the renovation of existing buildings and new construction on just about every segment of campus, including the athletic campus, Waterman Farm, and land owned by OSU on the north side of Ackerman Road. https://columbusunderground.com/new-osu-master-plan-calls-for-street-changes-new-wave-of-development-bw1/
  7. My attention is brought to the CAPA music hall coming to Third Street. Would this be for the Symphony? I was thinking that since the first post today as I was looking for a Johnstown thread and happened to see the Scioto Peninsula thread that hasn't been posted in in ages.
  8. This is a new roundabout at the NE corner of the site. View is looking west down Green Chapel:
  9. It might be time for Johnstown to get its own thread! The New Albany Co. proposes 417-acre, mixed-use development in Johnstown, north of Intel "The New Albany Co. proposed to the Johnstown Planning Commission on Tuesday the Johnstown Gateway Planned District, a mixed-use development on 417 acres, just north of the Intel site, bordered by Green Chapel to the south, Clover Valley to the west, Mink Street to the east and north of Duncan Plains to the north. 10. I uploaded higher resolution images plus one not yet posted. It says on the renderings that they "Reflect 30% design." https://images4.imagebam.com/3c/5f/86/MENVUIL_o.png https://images4.imagebam.com/a1/b5/1c/MENVSEH_o.png https://images4.imagebam.com/04/c6/9b/MENVV0S_o.png
  11. 2023 Summer in the Shoe series brought $120 million in economic impact "Last weekend's Saturday finale wrapped up what Columbus Arena Sports and Entertainment CEO Mike Gatto called an unprecedented summer with more than 300,000 tickets sold." "The most recent series of four acts in eight days - five shows from Aug. 5 through 12 - brought in more than 225,000 fans from all 50 states, Mexico and Canada, according to Columbus Arena Sports and Entertainment. June's Buckeye Country Superfest drew the six-year concert's largest crowd, with nearly 63,900 in attendance." "The Hilton Columbus Downtown sold out its 1,000 rooms for each concert - a combined 5,000 booked rooms for the shows, Chris Coffin, the hotel's general manager, told Columbus Business First." https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/08/21/summer-in-the-shoe-120-million-economic-impact.html
  12. New Albany is planning to extend Market Street to the east of High Street seen here (Reynoldsburg-New Albany Rd to the south of here). It will curve up to 3rd Street. 62 will now align to continue down 3rd instead of Main Street. Construction to start next year. https://newalbanyohio.org/answers/market-extension/
  13. Looks like the former Vamp store at 997 N. High Street in the Short North will be a Le Macaron pastry shop.
  14. I don't think they're keeping any of the existing structure. That graphic is showing the difference in lot coverage between what's there now and their planned building.
  15. I mean, it's been happening. Directly on 5th in the last less than ten years: Grant Park apartments The Lusso Crossline 4th and 5th Four x Five The Beeker The Aubrey Makley Place Founders Park SFHs, apartments, senior living, and Hyatt Place Fifth Ave House/Aldi The Blakely View on 5th Preferred Living And then this project at 1350 That's a ton of development in just 2.5 linear miles.
  16. A tunnel under the ramps and a bridge over 270?
  17. From the renderings it looks like they want to extend the highline park all the way to 3rd covering the biergarten.
  18. Well, looks like they're not demolishing the galleria building for a hotel anymore. Three dining/drinking spots planned for former Downtown Columbus bank building "Edwards plans three connected venues on the ground floor of the Galleria building, at 20 S. 3rd St. The floor has been largely empty since Au Bon Pain restaurant closed in 2014. Planned for the space: A biergarten on the south side of the building that would seat about 100 indoors and 100 on a patio on what is now East Capital Street. A tapas restaurant on the north half of the building that would seat about 100 indoors and 70 on a patio on 3rd Street and in a narrow strip between the building and Trinity Episcopal Church. A speakeasy bar that would seat about 40 and would be accessed through a secret door in the bathroom of the tapas restaurant. The former lobby of the Galleria building will be outfitted with lounge-style seating. The Galleria spaces have been demolished but construction work has not begun yet on the new restaurants. Edwards said the spots would be managed by Makeready, the new hospitality arm of the Columbus-based hotel investment and development firm Rockbridge. Edwards and Rockbridge are also partners in the 32-floor Merchant building planned for the parking lot of the North Market." https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2023/08/04/major-changes-planned-for-former-galleria-building-downtown/70520200007/
  19. Messer Construction put in for a permit for a tower crane and parking garage construction in downtown New Albany. It'll be between the City Hall and Police Department buildings. Weirdly, I can't find anything about it elsewhere. It's listed as a commercial development and 37 feet tall. So I could see a 3-4 story garage with commercial lining Village Hall Rd as seen here: I believe the extension of the Rose Run Park across Main Street/62 is in progress. It'll be a veterans memorial located in the blue section above. The red along Dublin Granville Rd was recommended to be infill in the master plan for this area.
