Columbus: Short North Developments and News
aderwent replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSame here. And the forums were incredibly active and informative with quality posters. Who are these people reading Columbus Underground movie reviews? Really, you're getting your movie reviews from a local rag? Concert reviews of local concerts I get, but movie reviews? Then you have the immature opinion pieces; some of which have nothing to do with Columbus specifically. It's really become a clickbait site, and that's sad. I've thought about starting up a site for just construction updates, and development proposals, but these forums do well for that. And more Columbus people are starting to file in so it's become more active than a few years ago. It's also cool to be here so you see how much ass Cincinnati and Cleveland are kicking too. Glory to Ohio! haha

Columbus: Easton Developments and News
Burlesque club to open at Easton "Nightclub developer Ivan Kane will bring his latest concept, Ivan Kane’s Forty Deuce Cafe and Speakeasy, featuring a burlesque show, to Easton Town Center’s $500 million expansion now under construction. Kane’s clubs have gained fame for having celebrity investors Sting and the late David Bowie; reinvented “world-class burlesque” on weekends, as well as a variety of other live entertainment; and high-profile clientele including Carmen Electra, George Clooney, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Brad Pitt, Justin Timberlake, Ryan Gosling, Ellen DeGeneres, Leonardo DiCaprio and Mick Jagger. Expected to open late this year in partnership with Columbus-based venture capital firm LOUD Capital, Forty Deuce will be located next to the new RH Gallery — the high-end version of Restoration Hardware — and will be similar to the original location in Hollywood and its second location at Las Vegas’ Mandalay Bay. Kane hadn’t planned to expand the concept to the Midwest. “I was called by Easton’s developers,” he said. “When I came to Easton and Columbus and saw what they were doing, and saw how incredibly vibrant and relevant Columbus was, I was blown away. I really was. It’s a very sophisticated city, everyone is very nice and welcoming. I literally couldn’t find a way to talk myself out of the deal. It fit really well in my wheelhouse. “I’m excited to see how my concept works in this Midwest flagship.” Kane is so enthusiastic about the project that he plans to buy a home in Columbus “and become part of the community,” he said. 'I take very seriously opening a venue — I’m an owner/operator.'" https://www.dispatch.com/news/20190313/burlesque-club-to-open-at-easton

Wood Cos. and Schiff Capital Group developed Hubbard Park Place, one of three complexes in the city with monthly rents that reach $4,000 or more. Upper Arlington: Developments and News
aderwent replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction6-story replacement proposed for UA's Golden Bear Shopping Center "Arcadia has reduced commercial space and added a few more residential units to the planned complex, which has grown to 278,100 square feet. The building will have about 28,300 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space, 33,700 square feet of second-floor office space and 112 condominium units. The 75-foot-tall, E-shaped development would front Riverside Drive, and behind it would be a two-level parking garage with 427 spaces total on the site. Plans now include demolishing a bank building on the site but keeping the McDonald's and Arby's restaurants on either side." https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2019/03/08/first-look-6-story-replacement-proposed-for-uas.html?iana=hpmvp_colum_news_headline

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
'Open fire' concept will anchor $200M Hilton tower "Downtown's new hotel tower is a chance to spark a new, fiery trend in Columbus dining, according to its designers. Hilton Columbus Downtown officials are putting together the concept for the "signature" restaurant that will occupy the prominent High Street location next to the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The $210 million, 28-story hotel tower is expected to break ground this year. Plans are in place for an "open fire" restaurant unique to Columbus, said Chris Coffin, general manager of the hotel. That means a restaurant built around a wood fired grill where a variety of foods can be cooked on an open flame and in front of customers. It's a trend seen in highbrow eateries opened in New York and Chicago recently, prompting Michelin-starred restaurateurs to add this type of establishment to their portfolios, he said." https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2019/03/07/exclusive-open-fire-concept-will-anchor-200m.html?ana=twt

Ohio: General Business & Economic News
So we're runners up to the $1 billion campus, and get nothing? But other cities are getting smaller investments because they have some jobs already? Doesn't sound like a runner up to me. It's getting a little tiring being "runners up" to so many large investments. *Edit. Their pitch was probably to be part of Ohio State's Innovation District.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Heritage Bank Center
The Giants are near the top of attendance every year. The San Jose Sharks draw pretty well. The Warriors obviously draw well. Only the A's and 49ers draw poorly. The A's play in a horrific stadium for baseball. The 49ers moved to the suburbs.

Columbus: Downtown Grocery Store Project News
They send you the link to Capital Crossroads SID for info, but their latest newsletter is from EOY 2017. Why did they stop doing their State of Downtown? I sent them an email a few months ago, but they never responded ? Interesting to see what grocers look for in the neighborhood when looking at locations. I wonder if Whole Foods was the option for Founders, and when Amazon bought them they backed out? I think I read somewhere they're done expanding for now; probably until Amazon figures out their own metrics. I'd have to think the old Neil Ave Giant Eagle shopping center is becoming much too valuable to be used as it is currently. It's a big enough spot that a large mixed-use building could house a grocery store. Also, there are the lots north of the Flats on Vine where Giant Eagle was looking a handful of years ago. I think these two spots will be best due to proximity to owner-occupied houses with money. East Franklinton is almost entirely renters. So is most of central and southern downtown. Also strange they don't at all mention the German Village Giant Eagle. It's a weird little store, but is better than the Neil Ave one was.
