Columbus: Downtown: 80 on the Commons
I drove up High yesterday and peeked down Rich as I passed by, and I could swear the panels on that park side are white. Also, the original 17 floor proposal may have looked better. This is pretty stocky if you ask me.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
aderwent replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionSome renderings of the currently under construction streetscape projects through the Short North. Some have renderings of completed buildings that are currently under construction. Here is an overhead rendering with certain private projects outlined as well. A good sense of all (some) that is going on in the Short North.

Columbus: Italian Village Developments and News
aderwent replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionMan I despise overhead power lines more than just about anything a neighborhood could have. I could never live in one of these apartments with wires three feet from my windows.

Dublin: Bridge Park / Bridge Street District Developments and News
aderwent replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionJust moving right along. Impressive speed. Tuller Flats is just about complete, too. 420 apartments and town homes. This will be quite a dense area. A small version of what Easton could have been. 34,000 square foot grocer is the same size as the one they're looking at for the Battelle Property. Whole Foods, Lucky's, Fresh Thyme, and Raisin Rack are about that size. Wonder who they're courting? Where will the arena/event center go? North of this latest phase? You'd think they'd want it by the AC Hotel.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
aderwent replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThose are really nice renderings. I agree that this is a great improvement over the previously approved design. I like the signage though. Wish they'd have actual balconies facing the park though. They seem to be Highpoint (gasp!) type "balconies". *Edit. Also, according to the Short North Design Guidelines map, this is in the Short North.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
aderwent replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction??? Has GOT to be a typo because at that price, good luck! That's almost double what the mortgage would be on a new build at the Jeffrey and 1,000 less sqft. Their website says $3,300 I think. Was looking at it the other day. And they had a cheaper option I thought. *Edit. They do have a two bedroom for $4,450. Not sure why it's so much more than the $3,300 two bedroom.

Facebook
Facebook group message boards circa 2008 were incredibly intuitive. I maintain they were the best forums I've ever used. Another discussion to say the easy-to-follow discourse is why they got rid of it; but when they did trash the format sometime in 2009, I think, I deleted my account and have not returned.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
aderwent replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAccording to the map in this PDF of the Short North Design Guidelines Hubbard Park Place is also in the Short North. Looks to me they just include everything in between the single family areas of Victorian and Italian villages. https://www.columbus.gov/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=80919

Columbus: Population Trends
(This map dates back to the mid '80s (I think 1985) and while generally accurate to this day, it does not account for any precise property changes over the last 30 years) I just share this map of Delaware County (the color overlays were for me to geographically divide my photos when I was heavily involved with roadfan.com) for those who want to make population divisions by school district. Color demarcation light blue - Olentangy violet - Westerville City Taupe - Big Walnut Yellow - Buckeye Valley Sort of brown - Delaware Green - Dublin P.S. This doesn't account for all the township school consolidation over the last century Thanks for that. I found this tool that has loads of info (from the 2010 census) by school district. https://development.ohio.gov/reports/reports_schooldistricts_map_r5.htm Westerville was at 92,789. Most likely over 100,000 by 2020. Olentangy was at 73,715. Wouldn't be surprised to see that nearing 100,000 now as well.

Metro Columbus: Road & Highway News
ODOT's website is dreadful for finding info. When they were adding the extra lane on 270 last year between Easton and Hamilton Rd, there was absolutely zero information to find on lane closures, what exactly they were doing or anything. I'm afraid it looks like this will be the same. I assume the extra lanes will be 270N->33E turning into Hamilton Rd exit only; and Hamilton Rd->33W turning into 270N exit only. It will help having longer merge times, but they should be doing what they've done elsewhere in the metro. 270/33 and Hamilton should be as 315/270 and 23 are now.

They're both charming and connected via Groveport Rd, maybe five minutes from each other (with BrewDog half way). Some more options would be great down there.

Columbus: Victorian Village Developments and News
aderwent replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionCorrect. I knew Woods didn't sound right, and the only other one that came to mind was Edwards and I knew it wasn't them. Disappointing from Pizzuti. They were the original pushers of height with Le Meridien and the Joseph. And they backed down QUICK. I feel like the Kaufman project was initially announced not long after the Grandview Mercantile project, and here they are going in with a taller proposal!

Metro Columbus: Road & Highway News
I have not but in saying that I'm not surprised. Even with the current conditions they're easier to get to than Grove City. Also Groveport's new high school is only going to help. Hamilton Schools are also booming with all the warehouses bringing in the tax dollars. Modest homes can still be had there, but a new development by Butler Homes starts in the mid $200s. Wouldn't be surprised to see Lockbourne Rd get an exit off 270 in the future. The space between High St and Alum Creek Drive is much too far for access purposes. As far as 33; it needs a total overhaul from 70 to the Lancaster bypass. Three lanes are necessary. Getting rid of the light off of 70 is necessary. At least two exit lanes from 70 is necessary. Getting rid of the cloverleaf interchange at 270 is necessary. Removing access to/from side roads such as Bixby, Rager, Bowen, and Pickerington is necessary. Canal Winchester has high taxes and I've been seeing many high-end homes being built, even in the Lithopolis area. If 33 got a proper overhaul, I see no reason this area couldn't be as affluent as the north side of the metro. Not far as the crow flies from downtown, great access to the best recreation in the metro, and near tons of modest-to-high-paying blue collar jobs.

aderwent replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWow! Kaufman is not backing down like Woods did at the Grandview Mercantile site. 800 N High will probably be 130-150 feet tall.

Columbus: Population Trends
If you added together Powell, and the townships of Berkshire, Berlin, Liberty, and Orange, and called the city Olentangy, it'd be the largest suburb at 66,497 residents. All being in the same school district, you'd think it'd be advantageous for them to merge their other services, too. Of course, if Westerville merged with Blendon and Genoa townships who utilize their schools, Westerville would be at 74,671.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
aderwent replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionGood news! Confused though. Does the marquee not light up like in the last photo right now? They're just getting new lights installed? Also, 23 is a US Route, not state. And it veers from High St at Livingston and is Fourth/Third up to Hudson. And then Indianola from Hudson to Morse. Then back to High. So this section of High shouldn't be subject to state approvals. So the neon sign was restored at the very beginning, the marquee to be able to display/list their shows and events is what is being restored now. It will go below the green neon sign you see now. As for the US Route, based on my conversation with them, they said they still had to go to the state for it. Mainly to agree not to do "flashy advertisements" and "video" type displays on the LED board that will be part of it. Again, just going off of what they said to me.......excited to see this happen though!! They are nervous about the Phase 3 of the High Street streetscape reconstruction taking away patrons during their next season, however I feel true theater enthusiasts will still attend. They gave a preview of the season to come and it looks to be a pretty good one!! Mama Mia, Rocky Horror, Pippin, etc...... Awesome! I see now what they're doing. I went to a show there a few years ago in September and it was incredibly hot in there. You could also hear a nearby chopper in the sky. Have little things like that been remedied since? Glad we have the theater in good hands.

Columbus: Population Trends
Westerville is only 12.61 square miles. Grove City is 16.36. Grove City has annexed more than Westerville since the 2010 census. Wouldn't be surprised if they're over 17 square miles now.

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
The big issue, though, is affordability of the region for the millennials that Amazon will want to hire, he said. That is why Conway stills considers Pittsburgh, Columbus and Nashville to be near the top for HQ2. He said Amazon executives were in Columbus over the weekend for the women’s Final Four NCAA basketball championship. “They love your town. You talk to anyone in Amazon at any different level they glow over their experience,” he said. “They love the market.” http://www.dispatch.com/business/20180405/amazons-second-headquarters-winner-likely-to-be-crowned-soon
