  1. Well, you were right. Columbus growth increased from 1.2% to 1.6%; a 33% increase.
  2. Yeah, Nashville has only 35. Even Austin, at 51, has one fewer than Cleveland. Of course, it'd be nice to see total dollar numbers. Facebook's data center in New Albany at $750 million is one project as is a $1 million office building with 20+ jobs. Still this is a good look at volume; and where jobs are people follow. Good news for Cincinnati and Columbus as they've been on the top ten list at least six years straight.
  3. This is by whole metro as defined by the Census Bureau.. And Cleveland doesn't come close to Cincinnati or Columbus. Even adding Akron gets "Cleveland" to only 81 projects. Similarly, adding Dayton gets "Cincinnati" to 139. Projects are defined here: https://siteselection.com/conway_analytics_report/Conway_Projects_Guidelines.pdf
  4. Site Selection results are here: https://siteselection.com/issues/2018/mar/top-metros-2017-repeat-defenders.cfm Metros with Population Over 1 Million '17 '16 Metro State Projects 1 1 Chicago-Naperville-Elgin Ill.-Ind.-Wis. 402 2 3 Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land Texas 196 3 2 Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Texas 192 4 6 Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell Ga. 131 5 4 New York-Newark-Jersey City N.Y.-N.J.-Pa. 128 6 5 Cincinnati Ohio-Ky.-Ind. 111 7 8 Columbus Ohio 99 8 7 Washington-Arlington-Alexandria D.C.-Va.-Md.-W.Va. 82 9 20 Indianapolis-Carmel-Anderson Ind. 73 10 T18 Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim Calif. 72 Those ten by Projects/100,000 Capita: 1 Cincinnati 5.13 2 Columbus 4.85 3 Chicago 4.23 4 Indianapolis 3.64 5 Houston 2.89 6 Dallas 2.65 7 Atlanta 2.26 8 Washington 1.34 9 New York .64 10 Los Angeles .54
  5. “Wisconsin, to get Foxconn, gave away the store,” the governor said, referencing the multistate competition last year to attract a factory planned by the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer. Ohio was one of the states competing. “It is a semi-meltdown in that state in regard to Foxconn.” He said he told Foxconn executives that “we don’t give away the store.” http://www.dispatch.com/business/20180312/gov-kasich-proposed-75-billion-petrochemical-plant-adds-south-korean-partner
  6. Yeah Ohio State paid them not to build it. Wish they would have paid them to move so OSU could build a better use there.
  7. There's been some off-topic conversations in various threads about Columbus' housing market. Thought I'd create this thread for those discussions. Some recent articles: http://www.dispatch.com/news/20180311/central-ohio-homebuilders-far-shy-of-meeting-high-demand This article from today shows how new builds lag demand, because they're too expensive to build for various reasons; including low density requirements in many suburban communities. http://www.dispatch.com/business/20171207/columbus-pegged-as-hot-real-estate-market-for-2018 https://columbusrealtors.com/Uploads/Documents/Stats/18-01_HsgRpt.pdf That report shows how hot the entire central Ohio market is. https://www.fanniemae.com/content/fact_sheet/multifamily-metro-outlook-quarterly-columbus.pdf That report shows rental supply is meeting demand. We'll see what this summer's report shows.
  8. I've driven by many times. These things are hideous. How was all that chain link fence approved?
  9. A hastily-made Google Earth render from approximately this spot with select current and future buildings in red: Market Tower is off dimension-wise. Height is right, but it will be square, not rectangular.
  10. The Dispatch article says we have 2,700 hotel rooms within a ten minute walk of the convention center. A lot of competitors have more, including Cleveland and Louisville, with Indianapolis leading the pack with 5,300. By my count, with the Moxy, Canopy Hilton, AC Marriott, Graduate, and this Hilton expansion we'll be at 3,787 rooms. All within three years, too.
  11. Awesome! That's 23 floors from High St, but what about Convention Center Drive frontage two floors below High? Seems like a perfect spot for a hotel only garage. Perhaps even a small one for valet only.
  12. Yep: https://www.greekcathedral.com/welcome-to-the-annunciation-greek-orthodox-cathedral-in-columbus-ohio/ https://www.greekcathedral.com/cathedral/
  13. Awesome news! Unless they cover up the entirety of the tracks below, there is only a very small plot this could go on. It may end up taller than the existing Hilton! Edit- It will definitely be taller. The Dispatch mock up shows it on the tiny sliver of hill between the CC and the road below High St. Now if we could get something built between the Goodale garage and the Cap!
  14. For context the Hilton Canopy tower crane is 233' tall for the building which will be 157' tall. The Hyatt is 256' tall already, so they may just be moving something to the roof. Also, it just says "crane", not "tower crane". Could definitely be a precursor to Hyatt expansion.
  15. Thanks for the history, Don! Some more info for you: http://wosu.org/chefs-in-the-city/evolution-columbus-restaurant-scene/ Not much in the way of nighttime activity here yet, unless you include ER action "activity" :P However, hundreds of new units are planned around the library and Topiary Park. Most of these have at least some sort of retail component, but I see this area even when populated as staying a "quiet" corner of downtown.
  16. What a picture! Would be awesome if some Nationwide maintenance guy could get in that elevator to take a picture again. That's a great angle.
  17. I found a case on the FAA website for the "Hyatt Downtown" for a 275' crane. Anybody know what this is for? I thought for the CC garage project, but that's not going to start construction until next year. https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/searchAction.jsp?action=displayOECase&oeCaseID=357814879&row=19
  18. And Grant Park is easily visible behind all that. Speaking of "massive factory"; look at how huge the Rogue facility is!
  19. Thanks! It's crazy to see the changes since you were up there in 2004. I thought about doing side-by-sides, but I don't have a good program to do that so I posted some of the photos I took in the project threads. BTW, did you ever get around to "Part II"? That would have been the south-facing photos, including City Center.
  20. The High and Gay project. The lot in front of the 667 wine ad is slated to be a twelve story hotel: Last photo! That takes entirely too long on mobile, and now I'm going to be 2 hours late on dinner!
  21. A nice view of the tons going on over at Nationwide. In the huge glare on the left you can see the recently completed Home2Suites and the Grant garage under construction:
  22. A nice overview of the neighborhood. Multiple projects underway, including the LC Matan. Will be nice to see Millennial Tower rise from here:
  23. Grandview Yard filling in nicely. Also a "before" for the White Castle property:
  24. A "before" picture prior to the handful of projects about to sprout up in the area. 330 Oak (now known as the George, apparently) can be see rising:
