  1. The Conservatory has a new master plan: "The Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens were expected to unveil a new master plan Thursday that calls for 15 major changes to the Columbus attraction, including a new entrance, a new visitors center building, new underground parking and a full renovation of the John F. Wolfe Palm House. "I would describe this as the roadmap for the future," said Bruce Harkey, president and CEO of the 129-year-old Conservatory. "This is part of our vision to become a premier botanical garden destination." Harkey noted that the master plan — with two exceptions — is a guide that is subject to change, not a specific building plan. "Master plans are evolutionary, so when I'm no longer the leader, others may identify additional priorities," said Harkey, who has run the Conservatory since 2007. 'But I feel really confident in my lifetime I will see the team today and the team of the future bring this forward.'" https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2024/05/09/franklin-park-conservatory-proposes-major-changes-in-new-master-plan/73584799007/

  3. Somehow we missed this: Weiler Co., Blu Note Jazz Club owner buy Franklinton warehouses on Rich Street "Derrik and Tiffini Pannell, owners of the Blu Note Jazz Cafe in Bexley, and Columbus real estate firm Robert Weiler Co. are the new owners of a pair of Franklinton warehouses just across the railroad tracks from downtown Columbus. A Weiler Co. representative confirmed the firm is the minority owner of the property, following a deal that took place earlier this summer. The Pannells, who bought the property via Pannell Music Center LLC, previously said they were still firming up plans for the property. They couldn't be reached for further comment this week. The Blu Note opened in 2020. Its a full service cafe during the day and then hosts live jazz music at night." https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2023/08/09/weiler-co-franklinton-music-venue.html Now, they've requested a permit for demolition:

  7. Framework 3.0 has had presentations available for awhile. I started a few months ago doing before-and-afters manually, but just didn't have the time. Ohio State has finally made the information and pictures more easily accessible. Here are some near-term existing and proposed pictures: Core North: Hansford Quad: Neil Ave Promenade: River and Midwest: Woody Hayes Dr Transit Hub: Medical Center: Meiling-Graves: Core South: 11th Avenue: The Full Campus Plan: There is a lot more info on the site: https://pare.osu.edu/framework
  8. If Gahanna had two high schools they'd both be Division II. This is why they don't split. Considering their district boundaries are nearly built out, they'll never be a Westerville, Dublin, Hilliard or Olentangy. They'll remain as a large Division I school like Upper Arlington and New Albany.
  9. June 1st weekend will be very busy: Junior Volleyball Association SummerFest tournament at the convention center (over 500 teams) Crew game Clippers game Kemba Live! concert during baseball game; a Basement show later Fast Pitch Showdown softball tournament at Berliner (150 teams) Breakaway Music Festival at Historic Crew Stadium Hookahville Music Festival at Legend Valley Short North Gallery Hop Thoughts: Luckily the Memorial Tournament got moved back a week going forward or it would have been this weekend, too. I wonder if this is why Guy Fiery cancelled? Way too much competition for a new event at very high prices. Seems like a perfect weekend to close High Street in the Shorth North to cars again.
  10. It turned out even better than the render! The south garage facade is painted, and the top floor is screened for the twelve story apartment building. Franklin Station opened in 2014. South from there to State and including the Peninsula phases one and two and all of Gravity/Greenhouse includes about 40.6 contiguous acres. Before Franklin Station there were at most 100 people living in this area. By the end of 2027 there could be 3,300 people living here; over 52,000ppsm! Not to mention two hotels with 318 rooms total, over 140,000ft² retail, and over 554,500ft² of office space. That's an insane transformation.
