I checked out the "your neighborhood" page on 3000Bridge site. One of the neighborhood offerings is "St. Ignatius soccer". Now, I realize that the Wildcats did win a national title in 2005, but I doubt that this will be one of the draws to the area.

Toyota Matrix ;) Speaking of which, do you see much of those in Cincy? I know there are a lot of them in Cleveland, but Toyota doesn't sell them in the southern US because "they love their trucks and SUVs".

Peabody, The vast majority of the old brick warehouses in Cleveland operate as multi-tenant industrial facilities. Just because you see a 'for lease' doesn't mean that the entire building is vacant. Usually, you'll have a vacant floor or two and the rest are all filled up.

MTS, you are correct. I should have said "north of Mayfield and close to Noble". I wouldn't call it ghetto, but its definitely not as nice as some of the signature spots in CH.

Peabody, I feel as if you are describing Cleveland Hts as if it were only the intersection of Lee & Mayfield and the area north of Mayfield. Did you forget that this city's citizens voted into law a same-sex benefits issue? That said, there are some very good parts of Cleveland Hts where your investment is very safe and other parts where a home will sit on the market a lot longer.

I get a little uneasy when I hear developers and the public talk about green space. Too often, it is poorly conceived. There are so many projects that have an unuseable strip of green infront of a home or townhome. If you are talking about a larger space where people can gather, then I'm all for it.

^That's pretty funny. I've always found the MAC universe to be quite odd. I completely understand that its a better machine for music, art, etc. But if you don't use a computer for those reasons, a PC is better. I've got a MAC at home and i hate the thing. No right-click on the mouse; when it locks up, you can't click out like a PC; and its Excel capabilities are much weaker.

Summer Olympics 2016
Good strategy with the crime. My point is more about world reputation. I think that the Olympics did a lot for Atlanta (unjustified). While Chicago is a much much much more noteworthy city, it may not get as much presss world-wide as it deserves in comparison to the sprawled-out cities of Atlanta and Phoenix. Chicago ought to be leaving those suburbs, um I mean cities, in the dust.

The temporary stadium, if cost effective, is a great idea. Olympic stadiums are pretty un-useful in the US. They aren't good for baseball or football, and who really makes their bread and butter off of track & field? 1996 should have been in Chicago. No way that Atlanta should get the world stage before Chicago does.

I have a friend who just spent a weekend at Park City (near SLC). She's pretty unbiased and said the following: -beautiful mountains -there is no city planning. they have tin warehouses next to strip malls next to mountains. -they sell 3.2% alcohol beer. -in an upscale store that she visited, the clerks were talking out loud about "those stupid faggots" I had expected her to come back with a better review of SLC.

Wow, this is great for the Cavs! We play a depleted Wizards team in the first round. Then, we'd play the winner of New Jersey-Toronto. All the while, we have home court advantage. This helps us because we're playing easier teams and because it means more likely dollars for downtown businesses. Now, the Cavs just have to go out and win. If we had lost tonight or if the Bulls had won, we would have had to face the Heat in the first round and the Pistons without home court advantage in the second round (most likely). Let's go Cavs and the downtown economy!

Did you read that clever line in a brochure at a rest stop in Sandusky? I don't get how you can consider it a cultural triangle when most of the triangle is taken up by a body of water. I say we have the olympics in Cleveland. We could set Lake Erie on fire again with the Olympic torch. That would be badass. Get sponsorship from Fiji. Now David, Lake Erie never caught on fire.

Major, If you are interested in housing appreciation, I think that you are missing out by not considering Cleveland. For example, a couple of units at Stonebridge appreciate about 25-30% percent in just one year. With the Lakewood high rises, I think that those don't sell like they used to because many of those prospective buyers are now looking at other options downtown or close to downtown. Also, don't forget abou the tax abatement in Cleveland that will give you a lot more buying power (or it will lower your monthly payment greatly). Also, when it comes to new construction in Shaker and Cleveland Hts, they usually sell decently. Its the older properties that are slower sellers. Lastly, you need to give us some better guidance. It appears that you are looking for maintenance free living. Does nightlife interest you? In regards to safety, it appears that you may be worrying a bit too much about the regions that you'll selected. You'll going to get a lot for your money with $300,000. Do you have to spend that much? You might be able to get something very nice with 200k. How many bedrooms are you looking for? Have you looked at Shaker Square in Cleveland? There are some great bargains in an area with fantastic amenities. Lastly, have you read all of the other relocation threads? By the way, what type of residency is going to keep you for 6 years? Is there a fellowship involved as well?

Council likely to reject Jackson's plan to cut tax breaks Wednesday, April 18, 2007 Olivera Perkins Plain Dealer Reporter City Council is expected to extend Cleveland's policy of awarding 15-year tax breaks on new houses, rejecting Mayor Frank Jackson's proposal to reduce the abatements on most houses to seven years. Sixteen of council's 21 members attending a workshop Tuesday agreed not to tamper with the terms of residential tax abatement, which comes up for renewal in June. Sabra Pierce Scott, council's majority leader, said council could renew the program in as little as two weeks. The vote could set up a showdown with Jackson, though the mayor declined to say Tuesday whether he might resort to a veto. Instead, Jackson released a statement that only expressed his disappointment at the prospect of council not taking his recommendations. "City Council's proposal to maintain status quo on tax abatement is a missed opportunity for homeowners and for the city to produce a product that would give Cleveland a competitive advantage," he wrote. The council majority favors keeping 100 percent, 15-year abatements on new houses for another five years. The majority also proposes keeping 10-year, 100 percent tax breaks on rehabilitated homes. The Jackson administration last week asked council to slash abatements on most houses to seven years. The mayor also proposed 12-year tax breaks for homes built with environmentally friendly designs and those with fewer steps and other features that appeal to older buyers or younger buyers who don't want to move when they become elderly. In his statement Tuesday, Jackson said his proposal would "lower energy bills for homeowners, help abate lead poisoning, allow seniors to stay in their homes longer and provide current homeowners with a real chance to share in the benefits of tax abatement." Now that's new. I'd trust the Amish to build well, but are you sure its not the menonites? The Amish would have to use some majorly mechanic tools to build the loft building. I'm pretty sure that's against their way of life. Now, I now that the menonites have no problem using those fancy tools --and they are definitely well-skilled and efficient carpenters.
