Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
This article leaves a lot of questions to be answered. Did Medical Mart want to go public at this time or was it just leaked? If they are planning on this many conventions, then they'd have to build a convention hotel.

Sadly, I've learned to understand that Kucinich puts his own goals ahead of the region's goals. There is a big difference between a large stadium that hosts 10 football games a year and a medical mart that could serve as a draw for medical device and sales companies to set up shop in the region as well as attract as many as 50 medical trade shows a year. - (6,000 visitors per show - $331 million in direct spending). http://www.cleveland.com/printer/printer.ssf?/base/other/1175676257302590.xml&coll=2

Trade shows: new Rx for city? Medical Mart wants showroom in old Higbee building, but the project hinges on a new convention center Wednesday, April 04, 2007 Sarah Hollander and Joan Mazzolini Plain Dealer Reporters Cleveland may not have the beaches, weather and entertainment needed to attract all conventions, but the city can become a top destination for medical trade shows, according to a company that wants to open a Medical Mart showroom downtown. Executives with Chicago-based Merchandise Mart Properties say they can sell the concept by building on the reputation of the Cleveland Clinic and the community's other medical strengths. "We think a Medical Mart is a great idea for Cleveland," company President Christopher Kennedy, son of the late Sen. Robert Kennedy, said during a visit here Tuesday. "It is in many ways the medical capital of the U.S." More at cleveland.com http://www.cleveland.com

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
Are you referring to the circle at MLK and E105? That might be the worst traffic circle ever conceived.

I don't think that the sculpture should be higher. I think its fine where it is. I do think that the signs really suck. They will soon be landscaping the area around the sculpture.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
I'm disappointed with Joe Cimperman on this one. He knows that this isn't the best alternative, he's just going with it so that the other councilmen will help him out with something later on.

Cincinnati makes bid for 2008 Presidential Debate
While the debates are expensive to host, I think its really worth it. Case hosted a vice-presidential debate in 2004 and I think it worked as an advertising tool. Granted Case and UC have a different audience, but it still helps.

Anyone catch that story in the paper last week about the 17 yr old thief who was shot by the off-duty officer? There was a big to-do about it at the last council meeting. The newspaper article made it out to be that the black councilpeople were mad at the white councilpeople for not sticking up for them. Actually, that's not what happened at all. The truth is that the black councilpeople are all ticked off that Zack Reed keeps going to the Call & Post and saying that the black councilpeople are not sticking up for their constituents, etc. Strange how the PD (or, one reporter) twisted that one.
