East Coasters with Kiddo Moving to Cleveland
Wordnick, Oftentimes, I've heard that many realtors (except the ones that know the inner city neighborhoods) are pretty biased towards certain areas of town. I've had friends who've moved to Cleveland, worked with a Beachwood realtor and received a Beachwood-centric view of the world. I'd talk to someone at Progressive Urban if you are interested in the Shaker Heights area.

East Coasters with Kiddo Moving to Cleveland
Thanks for the welcome and the quick response! We're coming from a suburban NJ town that is on the NY train line. It's got a town center that is pedestrian friendly, and is diverse in terms of politics, philosophies and race (somewhat). We'd love to make a home somewhere similar in terms of this diversity and have been told that Shaker Heights and Chagrin Falls would fit the bill. I don't think I'd say that Chagrin is diverse. To answer some of your questions, we will have a car but will need to access public transport as my husband will be working downtown (if that's what you call it). We're not picky in terms of the apartment, two bedrooms in a clean, safe neighborhood will do us right. There is the short-term lease issue, though. Ideally, we don't want to enter into a 1-year lease since we're looking to purchase as soon as possible. Shaker Square has a direct rail link to downtown. There are tons of apartments within a block of restaurants, rail, movies, drugstore, retail, grocery store. You are also about 5 blocks away from the beautiful Shaker Lakes. There are trails and nature center. In terms of activities, together we enjoy seeing live bands at laid back bars, going to the movies and heading out for dinner. We also like some outdoorsy stuff, though I'm not terribly interested in very serious hiking or rock climbing or anything like that. I also enjoy theater and poetry readings, without the mister . You sound like the poster couple for Shaker Square.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Hahaha! How easily we forget all of the Sunday nights and Mondays we were po'ed because our team stunk! Super Bowl? Let's try to make the playoffs first! Any speculation about who we may be taking with the third pick? Almost everyone in the media is saying Peterson. Don't worry, I was kidding about the Super Bowl reference. I'd rather take someone along the offensive or defensive lines before I'd take a running back. I hope that Thomas of Wisconsin falls to #3. Or, I wouldn't mind trading down to pick up some more picks.

Carol, what are you referring to? Sounds interesting, but I don't really know what you are talking about.

Ohio: Residency Rule Requirement
Nobody makes anybody live anywhere. If you are not forced to take a job as a Cleveland police officer. If you choose to do so, its your choice.

Ohio: Residency Rule Requirement
KTM, Be realistic. They wouldn't sue unless they wanted to move. Put your thinking cap on and imagine the following: the city's most viable neighborhoods lose their lifeblood (the cops, fire fighters, city workers, etc.) Mass exodus from Shaker Square, West Park and Clifton. What happens when no one wants to buy these homes? The neighborhoods go down hill fast. Do you really want that to happen? I'd like to read the judge's opinion and see his explanation of why a state legislative act can trump the state's constitution. That's unconstitutional.

Cleveland: Prospect Place, Joshua Hall, & Mueller Lofts
Well, I think that I know which building it is. Do they even have a for sale sign outside?

Cleveland: Prospect Place, Joshua Hall, & Mueller Lofts
Where is Joshua Hall? Between which streets? Isn't Prospect Place located next to the Winton (Carter) Manor?
-
Ohio: Residency Rule Requirement
Way to skew things, KTM. The entire city of Cleveland (all the little guys) will suffer so that a few can benefit. So why do the rights of a few trump the greater good??

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^no, this is separate. The case was dismissed because she failed to state a claim. She argued that the Port's actions are outside of its authority. The law obviously states that the Port does have this authority. Therefore, the case is dismissed before things really heated up in the court room. I'm not sure how this particular case went down, but it could happen like this: plaintiff opens hearings by presenting its claim. Defense responds by motioning to have case dismissed because plaintiff has no legal leg to stand on. Or, this could have happened even before court proceedings had begun. I'm sure that the landowners will argue the same thing as well as the lady, but the Port may be able to have that claim removed because it has already been decided. Still, the landowners would have some other claims to make. But this probably will shorten the landowners trial a little.

Carolcohen, check out the Ohio City thread. Someone was asking about this building. Do you know who, if anyone, is marketing the Clinton Courts project?

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Phase II includes the two townhomes that you speak of. They will break ground once one is sold. They also plan on a phase III that would be located in the alley and would face the Vine Industrials. These townhomes would be smaller than the first two phases. The original plan did include townhomes on the other side of the historic home. I don't think that the developer sold that land to anyone else. I think that he just let his option contract expire.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Its had a for-sale sign on it when I last saw it (very recently). I live around the corner from this building. The only thing that I wonder about is if there are enough windows. By the way, that portion of Ohio City is really doing well. Have you looked at Clinton Courts? I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for, but it did just break ground this week.

Cleveland: Steelyard Commons
I was there once. I didn't notice any security.

Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
I like the Tillmans. I don't like Clarence Court. CC looks like it was built as one giant piece and then air dropped in. Their entrances are very bland (I can't stand residential entrances that do not have any steps). The Tillmans have cool roof lines that, because of the topography, sequentially step up with the incline of the land. CC has one monotonous roofline. CC also looks like its made of vinyl. CC just seems so overpriced. I am also not a fan of the second phase of the Literary Bluffs. I do like third phase, though. I am not liking the Seventh St. townhomes. In my opinion, this site calls for single family detached homes (see--the hill in the front yard).

Cleveland Browns Discussion
The Browns are so awesome. It all starts with a simple coin flip. Next year=Super Bowl! The Browns won the coin toss and will pick third in the NFL Draft. The coin toss was held this morning at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Tampa Bay will pick fourth.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
University Circle envisions $7 million for Euclid plan Includes signs, visitors center, lighting Friday, February 23, 2007 Tom Breckenridge Plain Dealer Reporter University Circle wants to spend $7 million on the little things that could make its growing district inviting. Leaders of University Circle Inc. said Thursday that they have already raised half of what they need to add new signs, a visitors center, decorative lighting and other touches over the next five years, under an effort dubbed "Bring Back Euclid Avenue." University Circle "doesn't have the feel of a place you just amble around in," University Circle Inc. President Chris Ronayne said. "That's what we aspire for it to be." The effort along Euclid, from East 105th Street to East 118th, would dovetail with two projects that will soon transform how the historic artery looks... more at: http://www.cleveland.com

I know that the required remediation for residential (Battery Park) is more substantial than commercial (Steelyard Commons).
