Lakewood: Development and News
This project is so good for Lakewood. The eastern portion of LKW needs a little help and this project, when finished, should do it. If Rysar redevelops the old Medic Drugstore at 117th in Cleveland, that will also help Lakewood a bunch.

Cleveland: Tremont: Development and News
^thanks for the tip! Apartments planned for Gospel Press Landmark site in Tremont is rehab target Tuesday, February 20, 2007 Henry J. Gomez Plain Dealer Reporter In Tremont, the Cleveland neighborhood ballyhooed for its resurgence, one awkward corner remains untouched. For years, community leaders worried that the Union Gospel Press was a lost cause, doomed to be a perpetual eyesore in an otherwise trendy and proud pocket of town. This ramshackle building - actually 15 buildings cumbersomely connected to each other at Jefferson Avenue and West Seventh Street - traces its roots to before the Civil War. wow, I never expected this to happen.. Wal-Mart hands back Steelyard tax break Posted by Plain Dealer Business staff February 19, 2007 14:23PM Categories: Breaking News Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has agreed to give up a 10-year property tax exemption for the store it plans at Steelyard Commons, Mayor Frank Jackson said today. Steelyards developer Mitch Schneider said he'll be giving up his tax break, too. That means city schools gets back millions of dollars it would have lost because of a state law that grants exemptions for sites where owners complete voluntary environmental cleanups.

Zen is a very nice place. I've been there twice and plan on continuing. They are supposed to move to the old Today's Fashions location on 25th. I must admit I am not the one to critique salons.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I heard that West 32nd will be 7 and 5 stories (two separate buildings). I believe that West 28th will be about 4.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
I don't necessarily want something iconic. This thing would stand out like a sore thumb. Do something simple, a la the law school facade. I think something like that would be much better than the current proposed design.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
lot 45 is the huge surface lot that is located between the Triangle apartment buildings and the train tracks. I've heard that Zaremba and MRN have pulled in some California designer to work on their plans for the Triangle. This all is very interesting.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
I'm sorry Ms. Benoit but isnt the whole west side planned in the same sense that battery park is? homes built on a street grid. am i missing something here? Ah, cut her some slack. The west side hasn't seen such large scale development since the 1920s. Its a very good thing.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I see these two housing projects as very important to Ohio City. If and when they are completed, it will drastically change the feel of Detroit. W.28th is a key gateway because it is an entrance/exit for the Shoreway. The West 32nd project will be the tallest building in the area and will give the feeling that things are improving on Detroit. I see that the West 32nd and A Place for Us parcels have already been purchased. I'd guess that most developers would only secure a purchase option before having obtained all the necessary permits/design review approvals. The fact that these parcels have been purchased says a lot. As a recent homeowner and purchaser of an adjacent parcel, its good to see this type of movement in the Detroit/Clinton area of Ohio City.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
i would love to make some comments if they are going to be heard by someone who will actually take them into account. I wasn't in Cleveland when they first asked for comments (if that indeed was two years ago). But still, how does this react to any comments that were made before the architect was chosen? I'm sure people said that they wanted something modern. Sure this is modern, but its not good. Well, here are my two-beer thoughts.. First, we have the 60's RV dome thing. I can't even express how tacky it looks. The two horizontal bands of windows, while its nice to let in some light, are so bland and 70ish. I do like that they will provide some great views of the downtown skyline, but isn't this a prime opportunity to open up the building even more and tie it visually into downtown. How great would it be to work in this buildng and have giant windows that look towards our tallest buildings. The current food court does a wonderful job of that. Build off of that. Secondly, the front entrance looks like a skeletal grid superimposed upon the building. It really looks like the architect is trying to take some elements from the old student center and put them into the new one. This is not a bad idea in concept. However, he's taken one of the ugliest parts of the current building and chosen to use it on the new one. Also, this grid looks like it was pulled out of some other building design and slapped onto the front of this one. It looks so out of place. I think that it also looks too heavy. Thin beams will allow the pedestrian's eye to focus upon what's inside those windows. These heavy-looking beams really detract from that possibility. Lastly, the grid patter seems to have no relation to the different levels/floors behind it. Its kind of chaotic. Where's the subtle symmetry? Thirdly, nothing about the entire design looks coherent. The stairwell has no relation to the facade, which has no relation to the east or west elevation, etc. Its just so random--and in a really bad way. I feel that I am usually a bit more restrained on my architectural comments than most on UO, but I feel very strongly about this. It is just bad. We don't have very many opportunities in this city to build things like this. This building is in the heart of campus. It will be the most prominent structure on CSU's portion of Euclid Avenue. We are paying a lot of money for something that is, at the very least, a lateral architectural move for the university. I know that its still somewhat preliminary and that we haven't seen a color version of the structure, but i don't see anything redeeming at all. I don't see any strengths to build off of. I hope we can start over from scratch.

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
The TWE project has been totally dragged down by the ineptitude of RTA. The plan is to do a handful of them to see how successful they are. Look for Tremont, Buckeye and Slavic Village to sport the first TWEs in Cleveland. They could possibly go in this summer.

How many stories? This is very interesting. I just think it would look so odd next two those two story storefronts. I would just gaze at it and wonder why it isn't falling down. Still, I'm oddly liking it.
