So, would both Stonebridge Place and Commons start in the spring? Or only the Commons?
  2. If you bought a townhome at St. Lukes, the Clinic would chip in $1,000 towards the cost of the home.
  3. I haven't heard that (and my wife works for CCF). I know that there are some small incentives for Clinic workers to buy into the St.Lukes project. I have also heard rumors about the Cleveland Foundation expanding the CWRU incentive to other Circle institutions in the future.
  4. With a huge parking garage in back, why do the townhomes need to have a first-floor garage???
  5. who could knock new condos. Still, I wish Sammy's or some other high-end restaurant occupied that space. It's among the better locations for a restaurant in the city. Someone's missing a good bet imho. I heard from the developer that the Flats East Bank project would likely be incorporating a restaurant on one of the upper floors of the new builidings. According to this guy, the views would be incredible.
  6. ^I heard that the owners are going to turn the building into condos and build a few townhomes on the parking lot.

Sometimes you need to take one step back before you can take two forward. I see Steelyard in that way.

Most Cleveland Hts apartments have radiator heat. The landlords pick up the heating bills. We looked at about 7 apartments in that area, in some cases the landlord picked up the heat, in others they didn't. From my experience, the larger and trusted owners do pick up the heating tab. Try Montlack (both companies--the brothers split a few years back)

Did you check out Coventry in Cleveland Hts? Shaker Square? While there are some rundown apartments in Cleveland Hts, there are many that are absolutely beautiful.

Think of it this way--if you need to head to a drug store, you're not going to use the one in your neighborhood if you're going to be at SYC anyway. Same as for other businesses like book stores and record shops. Wimwar, you keep equating "neighborhood businesses" with speciality niche retailers. It's the bread-and-butter places that are going to lose their asses. So yeah, you'll have your very own suburban parking paradise right outside downtown, but at what expense? And let's not forget that for some city residents, the suburban shopping centers are still going to be closer to them than SYC. This is going to help Cleveland as much as Tower City and the Galleria did. Dan, I'm not sure why you are putting all these words in my mouth? Where did I say the things that you claim I said?

City Council paid for a study that aimed to measure the negative impact that Steelyard would have on local businesses. Except for Dave's, the study showed that local businesses would actually show a slight improvement.

You mean like putting a suburban big-box shopping center within a stone's throw of downtown? No, I said the opposite.

The fact remains: IKEA doesn't want to be in Cleveland. I understand that we need to be creative and think differently about development. But it is not up to us to decide where to put our IKEAs.
  15. Uptown is a name that goes back to the 20s. Still, I don't like it.

Memphis has two parallel trolley lines that have east-west routes downtown. They can do a good job of moving people between entertainment districts within downtown. They added another line that connects downtown to the very sleepy and derelict medical center (a mile away). The trolleys are cosmetic and are not convenient for commuters. They have a plan to convert them to light rail and extend them out to the airport, but that may be just a pipedream. Overall, the trolleys are inefficient and only serve to give more evidence to the anti-tax, SUV crowd that subsidized mass transit is a waste of their money. Sad.
  18. you do have too many drug stores out your way, but I don't a really good option. Maybe Lutheran has a decent Pharmacy the new Rite Aid (or is it CVS) should be open soon at 65th and Franklin.
  19. Ouch. I'm still in disbelief.

But then there's Houston (and by some extent Memphis, thought their transit system is now at the "toddler" stage. I wouldn't put it at toddler stage. Maybe infant. Memphis really sunk a lot of cash into the trolley line that extents into the medical district. However, the trolleys don't go over 20 mph and they do not connect any residential areas. Its a real waste of money. Memphis' trolley line is like Cleveland's waterfront line--more often than not, the trains are devoid of any passengers.

I think you'd get different answers from different people. Does 'out and about' mean at bars only? Can it mean walking to the grocery store too?
  23. ^I think that people consider the river the dividing line.
  24. ^sounds like a good hire for Case.
  25. Strap, why didn't you stop by? I live about 4 houses away from that townhouse.
