Where is that info coming from? I don't think any apartment in the entire region is getting $3,000 per month.

^Most, if not all, of these buildings have long been owned by a coop. Generally speaking, the tenants are retirement-age african, american middle class who have lived there for decades. A very good group of people. There have been some maintenance issues that the tenants/owners couldn't afford to pay for. Also, the nature of the ownership structure created some legal hurdles. I believe that some attorneys have stepped up and provided pro bono work to help them through. I also believe that the local cdc was able to help them get some grants.

Gordon Square has not suffered at all because of the uptick in the Market District. Room Service is the only lose to Gordon Square, but I'd say that GS has rebounded quickly. There has been some turnover with the retail tenants, but DSDC has been quick to plug in new, unique and local tenants into those space. Bon Bon (I believe) didn't have a true retail presence in GS. It was located there, but it wasn't a walk-in location. Maybe it was only a catering operation. We, as Clevelanders, are fortunate that the brains behind the Market District and Gordon Square both embraced their strengths. We have two unique districts with different identities. Had each simply tried to become new entertainment districts, they wouldn't have as much success. Instead, we have a theater-based district and a food-based district where each seem to be snow balling. From what I'm hearing, the interest in residential real estate is beginning to follow. There's recently been a lot of absorbtion in Ohio City's residential sector and interest in renovating blighted single-family properties is beginning to soar.

Yes it will be a bakery, but I believe it will also behave like a coffee shop.

It is a pretty small firm and not one that would likely grow to be much larger.

I'm glad Forest City isn't doing this project. If they were, we'd be seeing a Cheesecake Factory instead of a Jonathan Sawyer restaurant. Because of Ari Maron's work on East 4th and in Ohio City, he's developed some very good connections with Cleveland's young and unique entrepreneurs.

The residential will do very well. It caters to a market that has long been pent up. In regards to phase 2, MRN does not own that land. They do have an option on that property, but they must exercise it within a year or so.

When do you work?
Work schedule: It all depends on how you define "work" 7:20 till 8:45 get kids up, dressed, fed, in the car, drop offs at daycare and school 9-5 I get to have fun being at a place where they pay me to do urban planning-esque duties 5-6:30 pick up kids, make dinner, calm kids down, work tirelessly to get them to eat 6:30-8 play games with kids, take them to the park, engage their minds, teach them to love 8-9:30 while wife gets kids to bed and reads them books, I empty dishwasher, do dishes, clean up table and rest of kitchen, prepare 3 lunches for the next day, get out all dishes and cereal boxes, vitamins, etc; do laundry. 9:30-10 bills, and other misc paperwork items As you can tell, I consider work to be "my time" during the day.

An article in Crains today mentioned that 26 of the 27 townhomes at the Coltman 27 project have been sold. Very good news.

The Credit Union sign is for a structure on the south side of Carnegie between E. 18th and E. 22nd. It has nothing to do with Uptown.

ParkWorks and Cleveland Public Art merge for form LAND Studio http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2011/10/parkworks_and_cleveland_public.html CLEVELAND, Ohio -- ParkWorks and Cleveland Public Art have decided they can do more to transform the city’s public realm together than separately. In a move echoing a wave of collaborations and mergers sweeping the city’s arts and culture sector, the two influential nonprofits have decided to join together to form a new organization called LAND Studio. The name -- an acronym for Landscape, Art, Neighborhoods and Development -- sums up the organization’s scope and field of action

The dangers of the large "proposed" towers are that they tend to include a lot of interior retail space that sucks the life off of street. While these spaces help make the towers financially viable, they hurt the older established places that surround the proposed tower.

Which individuals who came up with the concept are in prison? Or in danger of being in prison? I also find it confusing how people tend to forget that there is anything other than a medical mart attached to this project.

US Economy: News & Discussion
He earned just $50,000 a year, owned a 3-BR house in tony Leesburg (certainly had to have a car out there), AND had to pay child support + other expenses? I figured he'd have to be living out the food bank BEFORE he lost his job! Agreed. Sort of a ridiculous person to focus on. He makes 50k in the wealthiest county in the US and he's paying child support for 3 kids? He's had his home for 20 years--it cost over $1,000 for his mortgage. He really should be paying much less but for some bad refis and poor home equity loan decisions. Why is the USAToday trying to make it seem like this guy was living the good life before he lost his job? Not to dump on this guy's situation, but I'm sure you can find much salient personal tragedies to focus on.

The Birmingham thing is very old news. I'm surprised that the Scene would risk looking so stupid by mentioning it.

It is on Franklin Blvd between 65th and 58th, but closer to 58th. Before it closed, it was a problem property for the neighborhood. This is huge win for the area.
