  1. Now, I didn't go to any of thos New England weenie schools, but I highly doubt that the average starting salary of an OSU grad comes anywhere close to the starting salary of a weenie school graduate. Additionally, while I agree that you get out what you put in, there are many high profile schools that have some excellent professors. Professors (at least at the schools where you are lucky enough to have small classes) make a major difference in the quality of an education.
  2. How do you define "weenie schools"?
  3. Congrats to Columbus and all of Ohio!! Great news! I love when OSU looks like more than a football factory. On the liberal arts college front, Oberlin and Kenyon continue to make Ohio proud as well.
  4. I'm not sure that MP has a liquore license yet. I heard that they were going to apply for one. I went about a month ago and the server was HORRIBLE. I like the food and the music. (Also, my 11-month old son was screaming his head off.) Anyways, I thought that the appetizers were better than the main dishes. Try la papa rellena. Its great. I also love papa a la huancaina. They are pretty authentic ( I lived in Peru for over two years), but sometimes thats not so good. They serve a lot of working man's dishes, which I never considered something that I would spend 10 bucks on. But hey, once they start serving Pisco Sours..call me a cab!
  5. Not like I am saying anything new, but it would be so important to link some of Cleveland's wealthier neighborhoods to downtown. I get the feeling that we might be the city with the worst train stop locations in the entire country. Imagine if the VanS had dreamed of linking Rocky River and Lakewood to downtown as well as Shaker. Our red line stations, even the ones that are in more stable neighborhoods, are located in out-of-the-way places. Well, this isn't the topic for these thoughts. More power to the Lorain-Cleveland commuter rail!! Viva el tren!

I doubt this move will have much effect on the 2006-7 Cavs. Mabye Pollard could hack shaq and absorb some of the fouls that Z would normally give up. Cavs sign Pollard, trade for Basden The Cavaliers agreed to terms with free-agent Scot Pollard on a one-year contract today. They also traded center Martynas Andriuskevicius to the Chicago Bulls for guard Eddie Basden. More at www.cleveland.com

I agree. With the 21-yr old phenom Andrew Miller giving up just 2 earned runs in his last 46 innings down at Akron, there is some more help on the way. We also just moved last year's first round pick, Trevor Crowe, over to 2nd base. He's been hitting .318 with 40 stolen bases this year. Can anyone say 'future lead-off man'? I hope we throw a lot of money at relievers this winter.
  8. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the scariest parts of that area are south of Detroit. It seems very tame to the north.
  9. I agree that there is definitely some crime in that area, but I agree with Zone that it is not normal to have 4 homicides in one week.
  10. at least they caught the guy.. The Plain Dealer Suspect held in double slaying 9:54 a.m. A 29-year-old Cleveland man is in City Jail this morning on suspicion of having fatally shot a neighbor who complained about his music being too loud, then shooting to death a 51-year-old maintenance man. ... www.cleveland.com
  11. ^I think that the original College Town project is long dead.
  12. Actually, this is one of the large projects that is closest to reality. I know for a fact that most of the engineering is complete, and ODOT has money in place to move forward with it. I guess we kind of diverted in this thread...exciting project however. you guys are confusing me. Gotribe, are you talking about the west shoreway or are you talking about something else?

Besides Motown, it seems that there have been a decent number of music artists come out of Wayne and Oakland counties. Pope, any help? Can you name 'em?
  16. ^that Toledo suburb, right? ;)
  17. ^hooray for ParkWorks!
  18. MGD, I think that buliding you speak of has already been rehabbed. Sosan (OC YMCA) did a rehab that is adjacent to Metro. I bet that is the one.
  19. With Simon's success in NYC and all the media coverage, I think Lola will be a big regional draw. This a great break from all the traditional sports bars that pop up downtown.

Settlement allows boy to keep his goats BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) A 13-year-old boy can keep the two goats he uses to help treat his attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, under a settlement with a township that claimed the animals violated zoning codes. David Valentine jumps on a trampoline with his goats a 3-year-old caramel pygmy named D.J. and a 2-year-old American Alpine named Blessing and lets them in the house to watch television. His family also has dogs, rabbits, a cat and a guinea pig at their home in Miami Township, about 20 miles east of Cincinnati, but only the goats help David manage his disorder, said his mother, Patty Valentine. Township officials filed a lawsuit against the family in December 2004 to try to force them to remove the goats. Neighbors also complained about the animals. According to the settlement approved Wednesday by Clermont County Common Pleas Judge William Walker, David can keep the goats until he turns 18, graduates from high school or doesn't need them for therapy anymore. The family has to provide the township each year with a doctor's statement that the goats are necessary to the boy's treatment. The family also must maintain a fence at least 6 feet high, which was installed in February. Township trustees approved the settlement in a 2-1 vote. Mary Makley Wolff, who voted against the agreement, said trustees were told the first goat was for a 4-H project, and only later did the family reveal the animals were needed for therapy. Wolff said she also was troubled that the agreement allows a goat to be replaced if it dies. "I was concerned about the precedent we're setting when we allow multiple farm animals in people's yards," she said. David has said that the goats are like a kid with ADHD. "They don't really listen very well," the boy said last year. "That's kind of like me."
  21. the pissing and the asking-for-money crowd would more than likely stay put. Additionally, most of public square is one giant bus shelter that can attract a motley crue.
  22. We're going for something less modern. Our home is an 1870 Victorian and there is a lot of stuff out there that would clash with our toned-down and mellow Victorian tastes.
  23. ah, missed that one.
