  1. that's an interesting way of writing "1,600".

you know, i'm starting to think that the browns ought to play out the season without a center ;)
  3. The wife and I are looking for a nice painting to put above the fireplace. Can anyone give the names of some of the better places in the city to find original art?
  4. I belive it offers dramatic views of Lake Erie and the inner harbor. Bistro seating on the boardwalk puts you practically on the water, perfect for watching yacht club sailboat races that are held on Wednesdays. Thanks Strap!
  5. Where's the VA when you really need it?!
  6. I'd be curious to see the views that Andrea's has.
  7. ^i agree. The most successful ideas are usually the most creative. Oregon has had wild success with its growth boundary (up until recently), but Ohio is very different.
  8. They've had a little billboard up at the site for a few months now.
  9. I think that we are giving this proposal more energy than its worth. The Clinic doesn't have some magic wand that it can use. Jackson has already been quoted as being against it. Additionally, there are many state and federal loops that would have to be jumped through in order to make this happen.
  10. I am 90% sure that CC is the landlord for most, if not all, of the buildings between 105 and 89th. As the Clinic needs more space, they will jettison the retail and build anew. They already are getting ready to kick out the Rite Aid (or is it CVS) and the BP to make room for their new entrance boulevard from Chester.
  11. well, tomorrow would be the day that they would start. Maybe I'll drive by the site on the way home from work. by the way, where exactly is the first phase?

I've visited Austin various times (in-laws). I don't see what the big deal is. In fact, its a pretty sprawled out city where you can't go outside for six months out of the year. Downtown has a great deal of surface lots and most of the buildings lack character. I think that the media has their darlings. And it totally perpetuates itself. If you're told that what you are experiencing is wonderful and hip, then you'll come to believe it as such. I think that is what has turned Austin into the buzz that it is.
  13. Both Boston and Chicago are bleeding as well.

Yeah, isn't it great! :drunk: I love that they're builidng a parking garage that will overlook Rockefeller Park. God love the federal government. :wtf: OK, the VA will be taking the entire block that is bounded by 105, Wade Park and East Blvd. The senior housing and the northern most apartment building stay. The rest is coming down. The 2000-car parking garage will go just north of the senior housing and will extend from East Blvd along the park all the way to 105. The 105 portion will have street level retail. (the city fought hard for this. the city, the VA and the councilwomen had some tough negotiations. i don't really understand what leverage the city had as the feds can do whatever they want to). There will also be some sort of office structure, a residential hotel for the families of the vets, and ?? I think that there might be something else on the west side of 105. I can't remember exactly. On the east side of 105, that is where the new bed tower will go. And boy, its a real beaut :whip: :drunk: :? In the end, the bright side is that the city will gain 1000 jobs. City Architecture did a lot of work on the project. And now Montague (VA chief) hates Volpe. There are a lot of interesting side stories to this entire project.

^two of the three apartment buildings will be torn down. And, yes, the retail structure is where the fire was.
  16. Why are they painting over that brick with such an ugly color?!?!
  17. It looks like a Jimmy Johns is going in at the old Big Fun location. I didn't see a sign, but the decor sure looks like JJs. There was a large crew still working at 9:15pm last night. Also, I like that Pannini's has turned the adjacent surface lot into a handsome outdoor dining area.
  18. Hmm...ridership is up, but farebox revenue is down?
  19. Did they hire George Lucas to dream some of this stuff up? I feel like I wouldnt be surprised to come across the Cantina from Star Wars if I strolled around the place.

That's odd. There are a few shops inside the building that would be closed off to the public? I need to walk thru there again and take a look. I think that it would be great if they closed it off. It would definitely help.

^sorry, one correction. There is one apartment building that faces East Blvd that will remain (as well as the pretty senior housing). It is the one closest to Wade Park Ave. I believe that two vacant and greatly decaying apartment buildings that face East Blvd will be torn down. Everything that faces E105 will also be torn down. Everything that will be lost currently is a serious blight on the area. Someone (city, council ??) found hard to get the VA to include retail on the first floor of the new parking garage. This retail will front 105. I believe, but I'm not sure, that the new 2000 car garage will have an entrance onto East Blvd. (there are so many things wrong with this expansion, but there are some positives too). To

The renderings aren't public yet. Bed tower is sort of a generic hospital term.

From some very ugly renderings, my guess is that it will be 8-10 stories. The city will be vacating the final portion of East Blvd to allow for this expansion (the portion that is between E.105 and "suicide circle").

I really like that idea, and for the reason that Gotribe mentions. But charter schools can vary greatly in the type of students that they attract. Sometimes they are places where Cleveland sends its most unruly students.
  25. ^Prospect Place--they have been working furiously for a while. They are putting in studs on the top floor and are cleaning the brick facade. Its a busy place. The smaller building to the east--I can't see anything new, but I did see some workers inside the place at 9am on Friday. I also saw that both buildings received a zoning variance in the past month to allow for residential. At this point in downtown, Prospect is pretty quiet. Prospect Place will make a huge difference once it is complete. I would love to see some townhouse in-fill on this street so that the area could become a sleepy little residential neighborhood in downtown. Erie St. Cemetery makes for a very nice neighborhood park that could become a strong neighborhood asset.
