  1. I highly highly doubt that Clevelanders would choose to donate a sum of $20 million a year for the arts. Additionally, why would you consider the taxes to be unfair if they are approved by a majority of voters?
  2. How about the Moda Pawn Shop?
  3. By the way, we did see someone (a painter?) working in the Moda space two nights ago.
  4. ^I'd kind of like to keep the Hustler stuff on the fringes of downtown. If they want problems, they'd put it next to the gay bathhouse. Overly-zealous hetero males are strangely offended by the homo lifestyle.

What other cities does Amtrak serve in Ohio other than Cleveland?
  6. I was hoping that there was some news regarding some final land acquisitions. :(

College and minor league baseball do not make for a great sports city.

It would be hard to rank a place like Green Bay. They have a storied love affair with the packers, but what else is there to cheer for after December or January?

I never really understand these rankings. If you are going to rank cities, you should base it on how fun it is to be a fan in the city. Austin--all they have is UT football. While the basketball team is getting better over the years, the city doesn't have much more to cheer about.
  10. Its good to see some movement inside the bowling alley-to-be. There are a lot of workers milling around, wall studs being installed and some concrete flooring being poured. I also like to watch as the McCrory facade slowly is restored to its original state.
  11. When I was very little, my favorite book was "Whose got the apple?". In it, this guy walks around his urban neighborhood. I thought it was neat.
  12. Ok, I've heard something about PBL being possibly interested in helping move the rapid station away from E120th. Does that mean he's interested in helping adjacent development? I'm not sure.

The Huletts--they were used to lift iron ore from the lake erie ore boats.

I'm all for Burke becoming a neighborhood, but I'd like to see Pesht go forward first. Burke is so disconnected from everything due to I-90. It would feel like an island. I would hate to see the downtown housing momentum be usurped by Burke. Pesht and the Aveunue District would unite much of downtown and help enliven Euclid, Prospect, and the lakefront. Burke would be its own thing (kind of like Mud Island in Memphis). Again, I am all for redeveloping Burke, but let's do it when the time is right. Also, there would be some severe connectivity issues with Burke. This would/should be home to thousands of residents. How would they get in and out? E.9th and north marginal? They would need to create more access..but how? The shoreway is a giant hurdle.

I'm confused. Are you talking about yourself in the 3rd person? And then you switch back to first person?
  16. ^did the Perfect Cup close?

The timing of this comes as a surprise. Its good to know that we've got a quality lefty signed for 4 more years. Indians sign Lee to three-year, $14 million extension
  18. ^i see how my post was confusing. here is what i meant: a platform halfway between mayfield and 120 has a safer feel than a platform adjacent to 120.
  19. MGD, We should invite some of the other urbanohioans to post on this thread. ;)
  20. my idea on safety is this: standing on a platform, people will feel safer if that platform is closer to the action of Little Italy than they would if it is closer to E.120. Its just a hunch.
  21. Honestly, I think that a platform in between the two sites would give a greater sense of security to waiting passengers. There is an eerie-ness to E120. There is not much action there. Funny thing is, the station is directly across from the UC police station. It should be a very safe place, but it doesn't necessarily feel that way to the majority of riders. Maybe its because you way to walk underneath the rail bridge at Euclid--that place is a cave. Also, I also heard that the curviture of the tracks at Mayfield made it a very difficult, if not impossible, place to put a station.
  22. ^I heard that from a pretty reliable source. I think its great to have visibility from Mayfield.
  23. I thought that I had heard that there would be a head-house (correct term?) at both Mayfield and Euclid/120.
  24. ^RTA has been waiting for the Triangle plans to be finalized before they do something at E120. If the UARD were something else, I would worry more about it. There are a lot of people who are interested in making this happen. While this is definitely a setback, I highly doubt that it signals the death of the project.
