The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
There is absolutely no way that the Alabama player could have picked up that ball and ran. Thoroughly impossible.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
There isn't much apartment stock. There are many homes that have been split up into decent rental units, but those are harder to find due poor advertising.

Is Cleveland Liberal?
Next year you'll see some very attractive recycling bins all over downtown. Project is already funded and the designs have been selected.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
With the dated "we are all witnesses" signs on the casino, I would guess that the exterior design details are not what we are really going to see. I would equate it to the generic medical mart renderings that we saw a while back--just a massing with lipstick put on it. I was hoping that the casino would occupy more of the huron/ontario corner.

It is going to be the Ohio Knitting Mills.

What is your degree?
I don't practice. By the time I was in my third year of law school, I had decided to go the urban planning route.

Cleveland: University Circle: Uptown (UARD)
Funny you should say that. They've been trying to figure out how to approach the dismantling of that thing for a while now.

Taking a job in Aurora
Because of the freeway access, your commute would be pretty similar if you lived in Cleveland Hts, Shaker Hts or if you lived downtown or in the Ohio City or Tremont. Because of the traffic and multiple stop lights, I find driving from the Heights area to be much more stressful than if your entire commute were via freeway (downtown and near west side).

Cleveland Travel Notes
Jeffrey, It is refreshing to read an unbiased and well-thought out review of what you've seen. Regarding the stretch of Mayfield between the tracks and Euclid, I agree with you. As X mentioned, there are big plans for that area. University Circle Incorporated has large plans for the huge surface lot next to the tracks. I know that they've kicked around thoughts for a project that would include a grocery store, CIA dorms, offices, a parking garage. They've been working on this for a few years now. On the other side of the street, a new 8-10 story hotel should be under construction within the year. Near the corner of Mayfield and Euclid, the huge Uptown project broke ground last month. The new Museum of Contemporary Art should break ground before the end of the year.

Cleveland Travel Notes
Please excuse this brief off-topic turn here: Can you tell me how many vacancies exist at Tower City Center? I cannot. I can however say that in the year that I have been here, I have seen Johnston and Murphy leave as Well as Charlotte Russe. I work out at the gym there and walk past what used to be the old Banana Republic and J. Crew every day. A furniture store and art gallery filled those spaces when I moved here last year. Now they are both empty. I do not have specifics. Just general observations and an opinion. I guess as a traveler one might see it as a "destination"; However, I feel many residents here feel otherwise. Once Tower City is connected to the Casino (which it appears it will be), I think that the tenant mix will change and the vacancies will dwindle.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Interesting. I didn't know that Harrison grew up a Browns fan in Akron. The guy had major issues in high school.

I was referring to the fact that the building was slated for redevelopment.

Ohio City Rentals
Have you looked at the Merrill Building? Besides the Metzner, Knitting Mills, West Virginia, Detroit Ave Lofts and the Painter Lofts, I can't think of any other apartment building that would offer gated parking.

Ohio City Rentals
I think you are making a great generalization. There are more auto break-ins near the area around Detroit & West 25th. I wouldn't say that all areas near Detroit are like that. I've lived near Detroit for 4.5 years and there are not break in issues further down Detroit (past 29th St). If you read the police reports, the break-ins usually are because someone left their GPS or lap top on the drivers side seat.

Ohio City Rentals
I'm not sure if there are any vacancies in this building, but it does have gated parking across the street from the building. http://www.ocnw.org/ sorry, it doesn't give the specific page. go to this website, click on "your home", then click on "residential opportunities" and then click on the "historic west virginia building"

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
I completely agree that the design is the issue. It is a bunch of corridors separated by curbs and seating walls. On all sides, you are surrounded by traffic. Where is one actually supposed to sit and enjoy themselves? Sure there are some benches in the northern quadrants, but the space is so small, cramped and mis-oriented that it just does not lend itself to being a place where one would like to relax. It is too segmented. Sure keeping it clean and free of "undesireables would help. But would you still go down there and want to sit in any of the quadrants?

There is a huge banner on that building that announces this.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
I think that the Lorain Antiques district is made possible by some very low rental rates. There is not much demand for that retail space. I don't think that the antique stores could afford Gordon Square prices.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Intercontinental's brands include: Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Staybridge Suites, and Candlewood Suites. /So no I-con is not involved. :) I think you are confusing "brands" with "ownership and operation". Concord does indeed own and operate at least one Intercontinental Hotel, just maybe not the one in UC. Also related to Concord Hospitality, weren't their corporate offices formerly located in Cleveland? They were out in Lake County I believe. Or Geauga.

Cleveland: Perk Park Renovation
Fall opening was never part of the plan. All work is proceeding as scheduled. The park should be complete next spring.
