Its too bad that this project didn't do better. Hopefully Citirama will kick-start development. Homes coming (hopefully) Friday, March 24, 2006 Christopher Montgomery Plain Dealer Reporter After delays, slow sales, a weak economy and diminished expectations, the Saint Luke's Pointe project near Shaker Square needed new momentum. It looks as if it has arrived. Envisioned as about 80 new homes on 11 acres behind the closed hospital that is its namesake, the $20 million project will host the 2006 Citirama, a suburban-style home show in the city, in September. The show will feature 12 new houses from 12 builders. Saint Luke's Pointe developers are hoping the increased visibility will help fill the site and eventually spur more construction and improvements in the surrounding Buckeye-Shaker neighborhood. 2. Or is he using us just to get a good deal from Detroit??

Rando, I'm with you. It appears a bit too thick. I think that the rounded edge forms an arch that is too wide for the height of the structure. The top is different, but I don't mind it. It's not how I would design the top of a building, but in a strange way it allows the other three towers to stand out. But oh how I wish that it had been built.
  4. I always felt it was pretty ridiculous to think that he would move the whole thing here. He loves Detroit. Granted if he really loved Detroit, he would move it downtown.
  5. KJP, Its posted on Cleveland.com. Click on the link within the news release and it talks about how they are taking 45,000sq in the MK-Ferguson plaza.
  6. Looks like they will hire 15-25 new people each month until they reach 300-350 employees. I'm disappointed that it will be in the MK-Ferguson Plaza. I wish that the loan center helped to remove some vacant first floors from our city streets. At least its in downtown.

    ^NW is headquartered in Minnesota.
  9. ^I don't think you bothered anyone. Welcome to the UO!
  10. ^I was thinking the same thing. There are definite trade-offs with events such as St. Patrick's day. Heck, some cities riot when they will a pro championship. In the end, the events are definite plusses for the city.
  11. Parade the Circle!!! Its not in downtown and it doesn't draw as many as those mentioned above, but it is a pretty cool thing. Here are some pics (I know I can find some that are much better)
  12. At this point, I am really confused about this project.

When did the Blue Jackets enter the league? Have they ever made the playoffs and how are they doing this year?
  14. Case and WRU were big rivals back in the day. If my beloved St. Ignatius were to merge with St. Ed, would I want to donate to the new entity? What if it removed the "Ignatius" part from its marketing materials? I can see where some WRU alums would be unhappy.

Yes, I would think that its for the towpath.
  16. ^Jay is a great street. I would love to have been able to get a home there.
  17. How are the real estate taxes in NYC?
  18. Peabody, Great idea. We should take advantage of the Festival's draw and build on it.
  19. ^I laughed when I first heard it. I thought it was a joke.
  20. A lot of Western Reserve grads have stopped giving money once Hundert branded CWRU as Case. There is a lot of tension because of this stuff. While it makes sense to brand CWRU, it has burned a lot of bridges and could only complicate matters with the Clinic. Case has also requested that the Orchestra refer to Severance Hall as "Severance Hall on the Case Campus."
  21. Projects at Case down, not out Biz could fill void left by Hundert's exit By SHANNON MORTLAND 6:00 am, March 20, 2006 With Dr. Edward Hundert planning to resign from his post as president of Case Western Reserve University come Sept. 1, the business community is rallying to make sure the bold initiatives he started do not fade into the sunset with him. It won’t be an easy task. Dr. Hundert will leave behind a university that is carrying more than $600 million in debt and must cut its budget by 5% to address a $40 million operating deficit. Case also will be working to hire what would be its fourth president since the departure of Agnar Pytte in 1999. Such financial and leadership uncertainties might make it tough for Case to complete on time some of the big projects it has championed during the 3½-year reign of Dr. Hundert, who resigned amid faculty and alumni discontent with his leadership. Among those projects is the West Quad, a 14-acre research park planned on the former Mt. Sinai hospital campus. The first phase of the project calls for constructing 500,000 square feet of research space in two buildings at a cost of $125 million. Civic leaders indicate they don’t intend to let the West Quad die. “If there is any question about the project’s viability, we would make certain that it happened,” said Fred Nance, chairman of the Greater Cleveland Partnership business advocacy group and managing partner of the Cleveland office of law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey LLP. for those too lazy to click or who may not have full access: Innerbelt infighting Fears voiced over freeway plans's possible economic impact By JAY MILLER 6:00 am, March 20, 2006 A dispute between the Ohio Department of Transportation and some business and community groups in the city of Cleveland over the reconstruction of the Innerbelt Freeway is moving into its last rounds... link above ^ ^ ^
  23. In University Circle, you have had difficulty with development because the land has always been owned by either UCI, Case, UHHS or some other institution. Developers couldn't get at it. Outside of UCI, the institutions haven't really wanted to use land for purposes other than expansion of existing facilities. UCI has tried and tried to develop the beach property, but financing has killed it each time. When they have been successful, they have built some butt-ugly structures (Triange!!-- truth be told, UCI wanted something different but the developer refused to change the plans. Additionally, it was planned during a very unenlightened architectural era). On to the institutions.. UHHS will continue to grow. I feel pretty certain that they will someday knock down the homes on E. 115 for expansion. Granted that's decades away, but its sad. On the flip side, we do need our institutions to grow and boost employment. Would you rather have an apartment building with 30 units or would you rather have a research hospital that employs 500? If we do things right, we will let our institutions grow and add residential density within the same areas. Case has always operated on the hoard all land mentality. They want it all and feel entitled to it. UCI, as its bylaws state, is supposed to give Case almost whatever it wants. Thankfully, that has already changed. Anyways, Case has finally wised up and is looking to diversify the land uses in the immediate area. Hopefully, the UARD (university arts and retail district) will be designed well and developed quickly. At present, everything is full steam ahead on the preliminary work. You have to give CSU a break. How can you compare the monstrous OSU to a school that has one dorm and caters to working students? CSU has done an admirable job in the past few years in developing a plan that will increasingly bring housing and necessary amenities to Euclid Avenue. Given the many obstacles that they have, I'm heartened by their current vision. Thanks for caring about Cleveland. We hope you come home after college and try to continue the momentum that we have started.

What is the most interesting product with your city's name on it? I found this one to be a bit odd.
