  1. JDD, The banks won't loan the money for construction on the hillside. They feel that its too risky.
  2. ^But isn't the market rate to affordable unit ratio something like 3:1 ?
  3. When I saw that statistic, I felt like I was in New York City!

Sounds like this may end up being a nice investment for KD. With the momentum of the Avenue District, Reserve Square could really benefit. The expansion of the market so that its visible on East 13th (?) is a great idea. The simple act of creating frontage at that corner does a lot for linking that space to the Avenue District in the minds of pedestrians.

Personally, I think that it is a good article that points out how we need to be Cleveland and not try to be anything else. Embrace and go with your strengths.

I absolutely agree with the article.
  8. I think its because he read some Free Times article and was sick of scientists walking the halls of some emerging Cleveland biotechs and saying "this feels just like a Boston lab" or "the test tubes were straight out of some San Francisco start-up."
  9. Practicality called key to state's biotech effort Thursday, March 02, 2006 Mary Vanac Plain Dealer Reporter Cleveland will never be a biotechnology pioneer like Boston or San Francisco, says Tony Dennis, president of Omeris Inc., the state's biotechnology development organization. But Ohio could grab its piece of the biotech pie by doing what it does best: Putting ideas into practice, and then innovating at the practical level, he says. Dennis and Jim Greenwood, president of the Biotechnology Industry Organization, stopped in Cleveland this week to drum up interest in BIO's international conference in Chicago in April. Former President Bill Clinton will address the expected 20,000 attendees. http://www.cleveland.com/

Hey, you even got a picture of my place in there. If I weren't too lazy, I would take some photos. I have views of the lake, downtown, University Circle from every room in my apartment.
  11. Go Memphis!
  12. :shoot: :shoot: :shoot: :shoot:
  13. It mentions something about moving the Clinic's cardiology unit to the new Quarries' project in Lorain county ;) Its interesting how the article considers Fairview Hospital a suburban site.
  14. Does anyone know how I can get statistics for a particular street? (Clinton Avenue)
  15. Cleveland State occupies a different role in the region. It is a very popular place for those who work doing the day. While I think that it can and will increase its on campus residential base, it will always have a large population who work full time and go home to their families at night.
  16. It surprised me that they are not advertising the project with more than a bit of spray paint on a boarded up window. The current 'sign' might be confused with graffiti by some.
  17. It is interesting how they strive not to be urban yet they are located in such an urban area. Why live there in the first place?
  18. Yes, but what about the Chester-Doan housing? Is that being developed in collaboration with a private developer? Is that a project that is starting soon or just one of those long-term pretty pictures on the master plan map?
  19. Long term, it may be a good site. Presently, it doesn't add that much to Cleveland. It does help Tower City. It would be nice if it could have gone where the old Hippodrome was on Euclid. Courthouses generate a lot of foot traffic. It would have been good for that area of Euclid.
  20. I like this topic, but maybe it could be moved over to the completed projects thread.

Huey Lewis and the News "The heart of Rock and Roll, in Cleveland.."
  22. How about Jacobs' Folly? :) I am not a fan of the Erieview name. It has its roots in the urban renewal and poor architecture eras of this city.
  23. Maybe in the finest suburban tradition they can name it after what it replaces: The Lofts at Surface Lot Square
  24. I don't think that anyone was suggesting that we change the numbered streets. Cimperman's idea was to change E.55th, not all of them.
