  1. Its good to hear some news on this. Also, I like to hear about all the national interest. In the end, I would hope that a local firm submits the best proprosal.
  2. Bertram, Welcome to the board! I like the idea of returning some of the old streets to their original names. Water St. and Erie St. are pretty cool. We have so many numbered streets that they lose their luster. I would also go for a Johnson St. Sure, its a generic name. But he was a great mayor.
  3. Looking back, I find the Galleria to be interesting. How would they build a downtown shopping mall without any sort of department store anchor? I remember when it first opened. Its was absolutely packed at Christmas time. On another note: remember when they had considered building the new convention center on the Avenue site? It was supposed to connect to the Galleria. Thank god that didn't happen.
  4. ^c'mon Pope. You are assuming that I read the entire graphic. I think that's a lot to ask. :-o
  5. ^I don't see a large department store locating downtown anytime soon. We would have to build a large population base before that could happen. Also, I am not a fan of the R&R Blvd name. E.9th is full of dull 70s office buildings that do anything but evoke an edgy/cool feeling. The R&R Blvd name only makes me feel like we are trying too hard to be something that we are not. On to Euclid: Let's let this place be itself. I don't want any more flashy names that imitate another place. Look at how many places use the SoHo naming style to brand a place. I roll my eyes everytime that I hear city X using that strategy. Why market Euclid as 'the coolest place between NY and Chicago'? Why not just call it Little NY? If developers come through with their plans, it will be a great place. I agree that we need to market it, but lets not use references to other places in order to justify its merit. NY never mentions anywhere else. Chicago doesnt either. Downtown will be a great place if it looks at its strengths and tries to be itself. The Belgium planners had a real point with the river. If we had dense neighborhoods lining the streets that lead down to the river, it would be very cool. Instead we keep on saying how we want a lakefront that is like Chicago's. I am all for improving the lakefront, but I would rather have the coolest and most unique Flats area than have a lakefront that is trying to be like Chicago.
  6. I have seen a lot of nice changes at CLE since Mok took over. I really like the new branding. The CLE name is catchy and the color scheme is attractive. Additionally, they have done a lot to improve the concourses with minimal investment. The new signage is a big improvement. Also, they have painted a lot of the ugly cement columns with a nice looking gray color. On the business side, the retail is occupied. Outside of that, I don't know much. Two complaints that remain: Concourse B (where Southwest is located) sure is a depressing way to arrive in Cleveland. I always try to point my inlaws towards flying continental so that they will arrive at concourse D. And, we seriously need some arrival and departure monitors that track all flights.
  7. Its tough to tell by the article how much Sandvick emphasized the parking issue. It may have been an aside. It may be a principal concern. The project seems like it will include a lot of parking just above the retail. I believe that KJP pointed that out back when this stuff was truly breaking. If the entire project area is built at the same time, then I can see how parking would be a big, yet temporary issue. :) Anyways, let's hope that this project gets moving faster than the East Bank.
  8. These are all considered Class A space in Cleveland: - Key Tower - BP Tower - Eaton Center - Skylight Office Tower - Chase Financial Tower - One Cleveland Center - Penton Media Building What about the building where Jones Day is located? Northpoint, I believe, is the name. That was finished in the early 90s.
  9. ^Well, I don't think that we can just remove 1000 spots and not expect any negative impact. Theoretically, I think it would be great to get rid of the spots. The courts and the police station, however, create a lot of demand for parking. Those places are zoos--a lot of people coming and going throughout the day. I believe that Cleveland's parking situation is odd. We have too much parking near Gateway, and just enough near the courts. Truly, if we removed that much parking all at once, we would have a problem. Like it or not, the warehouse district is greatly served by those parking lots. If we got rid of them, we would have to replace most of them with new parking structures. As we turn downtown into a neighborhood, we are still going to have to provide a lot of parking for those who commute. But as we build up the area, I think that we could lower the amount of new parking spaces that we build with the new developments.
  10. What is a "violent crime" if it doesn't not include assaults, homocides or rapes? An assault is generally the use of force or the threat of force to commit a crime.
  11. From the outside looking in, it appears that it would be a stupid decision to get rid of Mok.

What a beautiful high school! And with a riverfront location!
  13. I don't necessarily disagree with your policy, but could you explain how Jackson's policies as mayor have stressed "giving and giving"?

Let's all sing together now: "And I'm proud to be an American, 'cause at least I know I'm free.." :shoot: :shoot: :shoot: :drunk:
  15. My sentiments exactly.
  16. In many ways, comparing Cleveland to Columbus is like comparing apples to oranges. Cleveland's boundaries are such that it includes the poorest areas and excludes the wealthier areas of the region. Columbus' boundaries include a lot more of the wealthier areas. Overall, I would assume that Columbus is a safer place. However, the gap would not be as large if you did a true comparison.
  17. X, Thanks for finally adding some true logic to the conversation.

^I don't think that most fans will think as hard as you do on this one. The name suggests that Ohio sports and the Cleveland Indians go together. Its an intelligent marketing move, imho.

^its all about marketing to the audience outside of Cleveland.
  20. Matches, The "opportunity" is to open up acreage to industrial redevelopment.
  21. i am happy with the present height. We need more urban residential presence on the streets in this area. If we put too many the units in one building, it will take too long to sell it out. It would be less of an experience to walk around the area. We have plenty of room to build 20-25 story structures, let's focus on creating a solid series of residential blocks first.
  22. I believe that the site is actually just south of what we normally consider Scranton Peninsula.
  23. I don't really get it. It sounds like a storefront window for start ups.

I agree that they should be taken away at some point. I would like to see more momentum build before they are tweaked or removed.
  25. Which election are you talking about? Presidential? Cuyahoga went 67% Kerry--33% Bush
