Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
Does anyone know the timing of The Avenue District phases? I had thought that Site I was going to be phase I. I just saw something that breaks Site I into 4 different phases.

Bush tried to do this with last year's budget, but Congress would not let him. Hopefully, the same thing will happen this year.

Ohio's Strongest African-American Community?
The black culture does have a strong community in Cleveland, but I really know very little about how things are in other areas of the state.

Ohio's Strongest African-American Community?
Older cities get an unnecessary bad rap for the segregation that does exist within their boundaries. Cleveland is very highly segregated. Is it because it is a racist city? No, its because of its age, development patterns and the passing a certain federal laws. If a city developed its settlement patterns before 1968, you will find a lot of segregation. If it developed after 1968, there usually is much less segregation. Why? In 1968, the Equal Housing Act was passed. This Act gave minorities access to neighbhorhoods that effectively excluded them before the Act took effect. In older towns, the neighborhoods and communities were already well established and the races tended to stick to the same settlement patterns.

Cleveland: Carnegie Av.
There is one significant project slated for Carnegie. The large abandoned and beautiful warehouse just east of E.55th will be renovated and turned into office space. If anything was to be renovated on this street, this is the building that you would want.

Super Sunday Blues: Detroit basks while Cleveland...?
I hate domes, but they can bring you a lot of business. St. Louis had a novel idea (dome/convention center combination) that has pulled in many sports championships into the city. Mike White did look into the dome/convention center, but we had to make a rushed decision to get stadium built by 1999. I would be more than happy to have a retractable dome/renovated convention center at the current location. If the convention center bridged the tracks and connectd to the stadium, it could work very well. Overall, I agree with the previous comments that this whole Superbowl thing is a non-issue. Why has the PD made such a big deal about it?

General Roads & Highway Discussion (History, etc)
I am not sure if this is common knowledge, but I found the following to be very interesting: Shaker Heights was obviously against the eastern highway plan. Cleveland was for it (with some very strong internal disagreement). To block the plan, Shaker turned its lakes into a nature preserve and bought land at the terminus of 490 at E.55th. Through some sort of bargaining agreement, Cleveland dropped the plan and Shaker agreed to extend its school district into the Shaker Square portion of Cleveland. Is there any book on this subject? Norm Krumholz has a chapter about it in one of his books.

It will be interesting to see what happens if Wolstein is successful in putting an art theater in the East Bank before West 65th can. I don't think that two would be able to survive so close together.

Which Ohio City Could Host A Superbowl?
??? Cleveland couldn't host it because they don't have enough hotel rooms. When did Canton become the hotel room mecca of Ohio? I agree with you that Cleveland wouldn't be able to host it, but your logic is a bit off.

Cleveland: Filling in Euclid Avenue
Some more good news. I believe that they bought all the buildings between the Huntington and Statler buildings. I hope that they come forward with their plans soon. 3 Euclid Ave. office buildings sold February 3, 2006 Christopher Montgomery Plain Dealer Reporter New York real estate investment company 3M Realty LLC has partnered with Cleveland Heights investor Eli Mann to buy three near-empty office buildings on Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland. The purchase price wasn't disclosed, but Cuyahoga County property records show the buildings, which total about 200,000 square feet, sold for $2.2 million... more at: http://www.cleveland.com

Which Ohio City Could Host A Superbowl?
I agree that no Ohio city has a shot. But, they would never put it in Columbus unless that city was awarded a franchise.

Which Ohio City Could Host A Superbowl?
i think that Cleveland would have a slight edge over Cincy. Cleveland probably has more hotel rooms, has direct train transit to the airport and has the Rock Hall. Now, I don't think that the Rock Hall is the greatest thing, but out of towners always mention it as a reason to visit Cleveland. Regarding airports: Cincy has a better airport, but Cleveland still is a hub for Continental.

the Euclid-Chester development portfolio
From the look of the new Aldi's construction, it appears that the store will front the sidewalk and have parking in back. Now, I know that its an Aldi's etc, but it sounds like it won't be that bad. Anyways, that stretch needs anything.

Ohio venture capital investment
I believe that we are confusing two different types of stem cell research. The two are: Adult stem cell and prenatal stem cell. Also, I think that Ohio has said that it would not use public dollars to support pre-natal stem cell research. You can do it, but the state won't give you any money for it.
