KJP had an article this week in the West Side Sun News about the increase in the redline's ridership. There is one quote that I found perplexing: "In September, Cleveland City Council approved what's called a transit zoning overlay, applying it to the $200 million Euclid Corridor bus rapid transit. It requires new buildings in the corridor to be on the sidewalk, have ground-floor retail, and be at least three stories tall. Chris Ronayne, Mayor Jane Campbell's chief of staff, said the zoning overlay also could be applied to other areas of the city, such as around rail stations. Cleveland Planning Commissioner Robert Brown called the transit zoning the city's greatest planning accomplishment in decades." Its is sort of sad that Mr. Brown considers this the city's greatest planning accomplishment in decades. One would hope that the overlay zoning should be a no-brainer and an easy thing to get done. Presently, there is an active push to do the same ovelay zoning for Lorain Ave from W.25th to W. 65th.

I thought the iconic bridge was dead ever since they decided to build a new westbound bridge to the north. I was most excited about the opening up of acreage to the south of Carnegie. That is no longer on the table, correct?

I am glad that it will not be a longer event this year. I feel that its still in its infancy and needs to strengthen itself before it takes on too much. I like that they will stay downtown. There is a relationship there that can benefit both East 4th/Prospect and provide a positive experience that will remain in the minds of Clevelanders. We need more positive associations with downtown.

Most people in Cleveland don't know about West 65th. It would be great if it becomes the next West 25th. I wish that the redline was just a little closer. But, bus service must be pretty convenient. I really got to know that street well over the summer. I used it often to train for the marathon. There are a lot of nice little shops, etc sprinkled along Detroit from W.40th all the way to 117th. With all the new housing in the area and the Shoreway project, its a perfect time for Gordon Square to take off.

It is a very ugly stretch, but it really isnt that long. If you replaced 3 or 4 uses on that street, it would be quite nice.

Jackson's article does not set out why he would be a good mayor. All it seems to do is state that he has his own personal rules that he'll stick to. Don't you dare violate his code or else he'll get mad at you. Its weird and paints him as out of touch. by the way, what happened to my avatar?

Thanks for the pictures. We need to develop some sort of before-and-after library for Cleveland. I'd love to move into that development. However, I would fiirst consider buying a home adjacent to it and renovating it.

With each new tenant, it should be easier to convince others to show up. I wish that the bottom floor of the sincere building was occupied. It would make East 4th much more attractive to the casual passerby.

Former GameWorks execs pushing bowling concept By STAN BULLARD 8:50 am, October 20, 2005 Downtown realty developer MRN Ltd. is working with three former executives of the GameWorks entertainment and club chain to add a new-breed bowling alley/restaurant/bar to the line-up for the remaking of Euclid Avenue at East Fourth Street. Ari Maron, an MRN partner, said the company has leased 20,000 square feet on the southeast corner of East Fourth Street and Euclid Avenue to Trifecta Management Group, which was formed recently by ex-GameWorks CEO Ron Lam and two other former GameWorks executives. The GameWorks chain is a Glendale, Calif.-based joint venture between Universal Studios and the videogame maker Sega Corp. It has 14 videogame arcade-restaurant-bar venues, including one in Columbus. The proposed "Corner Alley" in downtown Cleveland will be the first venue created by Mr. Lam and his former GameWorks colleagues. Mr. Maron said the concept combines 16 bowling lanes with high-tech lighting and plasma screens and what is to be known as the "4th Street Bar and Grill," which is to include a 200-seat restaurant and a 150-person capacity bar. The concept will re-create the sleek, upscale design of martini bars in the 1920s and 1930s, Mr. Maron said. It has a target opening in about a year. Mr. Maron said the developer would seek city financial assistance for the project and support from local civic groups such as the Greater Cleveland Partnership. He declined to detail the financing package. The Corner Alley operator will employ about 100 people, MRN spokeswoman Christy Harst said. Buildings that will have a portion of their space incorporated into the bowling alley include the former Wendy's, the one-time McCrory Department store and other buildings extending eastward to the Colonial Marketplace hotel/retail complex. MRN developed the House of Blues on the opposite side of East Fourth and has shepherded the redo of East Fourth Street between Euclid and Prospect Avenue as an entertainment district with restaurants and loft apartments.

It would be great to see the bottom floors of the WT Grant building get filled. If Quicken goes into May Co, WT's first floor gets filled and old Wendy's becomes a Gameworks, Euclid will be drastically different. Throw the improved streetscaping that the the Euclid Corridor project will bring and you'll have an entirely different street. I just hope that Lebron and company have a break out year. Sending 20,000 happy fans out the doors of "the Gund" at 10pm will bring a lot of business to East 4th street. Go Cavs!

My guess would be the parking lot next to the Marshall building on W. 9th. That has been mentioned before. My hope would be that either the St. Claire/W.6th lot or District Park. It seems that District Park would definitely help Wolstein get tenants for the East Bank.
