Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
I thought that the powerhouse was to serve as a community center or maybe some restaurant.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Hmm.. this article mentions 400 residential units. With such a large footprint, I am glad to see an increased residential total. Let's hope Council passes this quickly.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
Has anyone seen a website that depicts what the place will look like? I have seen basic conceptual drawings on the city website. I don't see anything on progressiveurban nor marous.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
That comment confuses me a bit. Its an "excuse and cop-out" to bring Gameworks? I agree that people will be attracted to a great neighborhood. We need to give them a reason to come down and live there first. Without amenities, the neighborhood will not grow. I have no problem building entertainment facilities that will keep suburbanites downtown a little longer. That will help develop the retail etc that can attract new residents.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
For the second time in the past few weeks, hints have been dropped that a new entertainment option will occupy the old Wendy's location at Euclid and 4th. I remember a while ago they mentioned a possible Gameworks. Both Ronayne and Maron have said that the announcement will happen in the next few weeks. From how Ronayne phrased it, it looks like it will be the Gameworks. What do you guys think about this type of project? I have seen them in other cities. Personally, I like this type of use beacause it diversifies the offerings in that area. We'll have three different styles of entertainment that will attract different types of people. House of Blues-Pickwick; Lola's; Gameworks (??). I feel that's important in order to diversify and sustain the area as a successful entertainment draw. If Quicken occupies the old May Co. building and the Wendy's location is filled with 3 floors of fun, lower Euclid will have a much different feel. I can see families staying downtown after an Indians or Cavs game and taking their kids to Gameworks. This is not presently an option and thus that contingent heads home to Westlake.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
From the article, it doesn't seem like the condo project is going to happen anytime soon. Yet, I think that it will happen sometime.

Cleveland: Cleveland Museum of Art Expansion / Renovation
They have started clearing some trees and set up construction mobile home headquarters. One of my favorite things about this expansion is that it will remove the surface lot that mars the corner of Wade Oval and East Blvd. University Circle needs more green space at key intersections. This project will help provide that.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
No word on any retail. Tremont is so decentralized. Besides the park, there is no sort of central gathering point for the area. If there was, that would be a good place for grocer.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
I like the art museum expansion better than that tower. We already have a nice new little plaza to the rear of the property. I agree with Blinker that additional green space would be inappropriate for Euclid Ave.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
The paper had a small blip about the Gospel Press building in Tremont. The Planning Commission has recommended that the lot be rezoned. Construction could start by the end of the year and open in spring 2007. It will include 102 apartments.

Grasscat, I love that photo. I have forwarded it to many friends. It captures NASCAR so very well.

Blackwell surprises me. I never thought that I would agree with the anti-Christ on something.

Its interesting that Target is moving down the street. That will sure leave a nice-sized cavity at the Rockport shopping strip.

University of Toledo
^Maybe, but Miami is definitely considered the best public school in the state.

University of Toledo
i think that the problem lies with our elementary education. We have a lot of people leaving the state for jobs elsewhere. The brain drain happens because, 1. we have some educated folks, 2. we don't have enough jobs for our youth.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
I know that he is coming in town to give a speech on something. It is a $50 per seat event. Not sure what relevance he has in regards to this project. It is probably just to make Campbell look good.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
I think that Cleveland needs to better publicize its strengths and good news. More than any other city that I have lived in, Cleveland beats itself to death.

The brain drain is the only thing I feel puts the nail in the coffin for the state of Ohio. Unless the glass industry booms in Toledo, the pork industry in Cincinnati, or the ore industry in Cleveland, we're fucked. Our state still thinks it's 1920 and the economic stagnation is a reflection of that. We just are not producing the kind of creative thinkers that will take us to the next level (and if we do, they get the first ticket out of Ohio). College certainly is not all that (Bill Gates never got a degree), but it helps average people with critical thinking. Some people are going to be successful no matter what, but for the majority, it won't happen without an education. Ohio gets a big fat F here. C-dawg, The Cleveland Clinic, with its growing bank of research jobs, is the largest employer in the region. How does our state "still think its 1920"?

University of Toledo
^A bit over the top. Ohio definitely has its problems, I won't deny that. But, you make it seem as if we're the third world. If NW has a population of 1.1 million and has two universities, then why does Cleveland have one with 2 million people? That is why I think the Toledo area has too many universities. Quite frankly, Kent State is what I would never have created. That school should have been divided between CSU, Akron and YSU. Conceptually speaking, that is.

KJP, That location is stage one of The Avenue.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
KJP, Where did that come from? Seems like it would have to be the Avenue project, but I hope its not. Is the Avenue going to cost that much? Why the out of town guest?
