Cleveland Public Schools: News and Discussion
Seems like we have another decade until the abatements start to sputter out. I wonder what the financials will look like once a bunch of these pricey townhomes and condos are added to the taxroll.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I like the look of the Gund Arena sign. I want to see how they are going to manage to make a Quicken Loans sign look classy.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
Will they start or finish in 2010? How long would construction take?

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Hmmm, I am not a fan of this new name. It will be called the "The Q." Cavs' home to become 'The Q,' as in Quicken Tuesday, August 02, 2005 Susan Vinella Plain Dealer Reporter Article Removed

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
KJP, Do you know when construction is supposed to start?

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
Yes, but is it going to be exactly in the same location? In some places, for example, it could hug the bluff and create more space for Edgewater park.

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
thanks KJP, still, it seems hard to determine how the lakefront will be connected when there are still the tracks and the bluff. They need to start working on this now so that I have a better idea of what it will look like. :)

Cleveland: Shoreway Boulevard Conversion
Does anyone know when construction is supposed to start? Also, I yet to truly understand the location of the new boulevard. As I drive down the shoreway, I see a bluff, trees and railroad tracks. Where will the boulevard be located in reference to those items? The list of projects in the print edition looks promising. They are quite vague in their descriptions. I think the Westinghouse electric area has the greatest potential Developers bet Shoreway rehab will bring boom Monday, August 01, 2005 Tom Breckenridge Plain Dealer Reporter Veteran architect Robert Maschke has an eye for art and for the next big thing in the Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood. He spent hundreds of thousands of dollars converting a greasy spoon into an art gallery and offices at West 64th Street and Detroit Avenue, anticipating the ripple effects of a transformed West Shoreway. By 2010, the three-mile stretch of 50-mph high way, rued by West Siders as a concrete hurdle to the lake shore, should debut as a friendly, 35-mph boulevard, featuring multiple intersections and a parallel bike path to the north. For the first time in 50-plus years, West Side neighborhoods will have direct access to Lake Erie by foot, car and bike. "It's the reason I bought this building," Maschke said last week. "Cleveland can reclaim a lakefront it's turned its back on. "I think it's going to have a real accelerating effect on the neighborhood." That's what city officials count on. The West Shoreway project stands as the first, big-ticket investment in Mayor Jane Campbell's 50-year plan to redevelop eight miles of forbidding shoreline... Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
Columbus has quite an interesting-looking convention center. I like it. I spent the last three days there in a hotel right across the street. Short North is a nice looking district. Seems quite new. I am curious as what it used to look like.

Lakewood: Development and News
I just got some news that the Rockport Square project is going to expand a bit. There is a parking lot with an empty store just to the east of the project. Rysar has bought the land and is going to incorporate it into the project. This will cover up another surface parking lot and extend the project closer to Cleveland. The lady said that she is not exactly sure what Rysar is going to do with the site, but that it will indeed be part of it. For anyone who knows the area, it is where the old Doc Hebens herb store was located.

Cleveland-Lakewood: Enhance Clifton Transit Project
By, the way, I am glad that RTA is at least thinking ahead in order to improve transit options.

Cleveland-Lakewood: Enhance Clifton Transit Project
^I think you guys are referring to the defunct plan of using the present Lakewood rail tracks as some sort of regional rail line.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Colonel Blue, Continental may think that way, or, they may not want to help out a competitor that is on less-secure footing. Cleveland should to add as many flights as it can for all the obvious reasons. I believe the longest runway in the world is in La Paz, Bolivia. At least its the longest commercial runway. It is also the highest capital city in the world. The runway is two miles long. Beautiful city, by the way.

Cleveland: 2005 Mayoral Election
Here is a blurb from the PD on Frank Jackson. Outside of Campbell, he is the biggest name running for this office. He isn't saying anything original. Cleveland City Council President Frank Jackson, who is running for mayor, unveiled his platform today, stressing the need to lure residents and jobs into downtown, open small businesses in neighborhoods and clean up old industrial land. Jackson also emphasized regionalism, saying he wanted to explore the creation of a regional development authority to better promote Greater Cleveland and help lure companies to the area. Jackson said he was in favor of building a new convention center but that he wants the International Exposition Center to remain open. Jackson unveiled his priorities, packaged into a report called "Expect Great Things," at a news conference this afternoon. He is one of several challengers hoping to replace Mayor Jane Campbell.

I think that Mr. Forest City said so.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
"Cleveland really needs a 12,000-14,000 foot runway so it can add more international flights and hopefully keep its Continental hub." I am not sure about the lengths of the other runways that Cleveland has. Also, the plan is to lengthen the new 9,000 ft runway in the near future. I would assume that Cleveland's runways are adequate considering that they are long enough for Continental's London flight. Sure, it would be good to make some additions, but I don't think the airport is currrently suffering from its runway quality.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Locutus, I think that technology has changed. I remember reading recently that the longer runways will not be needed as much because the planes don't need all that length. Also, I am not convinced that the giant Airbus plane will be that popular with airlines. I believe that Mok has been able to lower the landing fees. That is always good for business.

Cleveland: Ontario Pointe Office Building
The building at the top is not the plan. Anyways, I don't see how it would ever fit on this lot. The lot used to house a gas station! If the developer wants to build, then let him build something as long as he doesnt throw vinyl siding on it. New development would boost tax revenues, so I am for it. I really can't imagine anything doing well on this parcel. I wouldnt want to live or work there. Its in the middle of the street! This developer either is crazy or sees something that I don't.

KJP, I am kind of confused about what you are saying. Where is this vacated land?

Cleveland: Ontario Pointe Office Building
On the website, it looks more like one of the new rapid stations that have gone up in recent years. Could we actually call this an office building?
