Ohio: General Business & Economic News
Its because we have situations like Eaton. We're so afraid to lose companies that we subsidize their move from one municipality to the next.

Cleveland: Leveraging Citywide LED Contract for Economic Development

NHL vs. NBA ... Fight!
When I went to buy two tickets together near Christmas, there were no seats available in the upper bowl. If I wanted to buy two seats, my only choice (for the rest of the regular season) was to buy two seats that would cost me $300. NHL is not on ESPN/TNT because it doesn't make business sense. I'm not surprised that hockey's attendance is going up--the league was almost left for dead a few years ago.

Is there a "mercy rule" on this forum? ;)

NHL vs. NBA ... Fight!
The NHL is coming off of a near-death experience (the 2004-5 lockout)--of course its attendance is rising. The NBA is a stronger league that is being affected by the economy. I'd love to go to a Cavs game, but I'm not going to shell out $300 for a seat that is half way up the seating bowl.

2010 Gubernatorial Election
The rural republicans are far from "getting it". While I thought Strickland would do better, I don't see how the republicans offer anything better. The frustrating part about Ohio republicans is that they seem to be more interested in ideology and not interested in solving real problems. As I type this post, I see an ad for Kasich below. It reads "turn Ohio red today". This is exactly the problem. I could care less if Ohio is red, blue or purple. I want a leader who doesn't pander to political extremes. Ads like this lower the level of discussion and turn campaigns into name-calling events instead of debating real issues.

NHL vs. NBA ... Fight!
I don't see how the NHL even comes close to the NBA. Of course the NBA declined in popularity in 1994--Jordan was on his hiatus. I would consider the NBA the second most popular league and hockey is either 5th or 4th. I can't stand Nascar, but it appears to have surpassed hockey.

Cleveland: Perk Park Renovation
Phase II depends upon the City finalizing its sale of the convention center to the County. If the sale goes through as expected, then phase II should begin sometime in the fall.

Crocker Park would be the best site if he didn't already have a presence in Avon Lake. Otherwise St. Rongsville makes the most sense financially.

There are a lot of misconceptions about Ignatius' student body. While the tuition is high, the average financial aid package makes the true cost of tuition lower than St. Eds. Because of this, Ignatius has a more diverse student body and actually pulls in a greater percentage for Cleveland than St. Eds does. Taking a look at the Ignatius' football team you'd think that the student body all come from Bay and Westlake, but that is not the reality.

Brookpark Road is not exactly a thriving commercial corridor. Terrible situation. I don't know if it's Ari Maron's fault or theirs, but something should have been worked out. I think they will lose a lot of business. Athens is a staple in the neighborhood, especially for the 1300+ St. Ignatius students for lunch/after school sandwich.

My usual shopping outing takes me to two different locations and four 'stores'. 1. Park at Daves 2. Go to West Side Market for peanut butter, coffee, samosas and then to the produce area to buy Ohio-grown vegetables and apples. 3. Walk to Dave's to buy beer and wine (cheaper than other places) 4. Go to W.117 Giant Eagle for the rest of the groceries. Including the GE brand organic milk for the kids (cheapest gallon jugs in the region) 5. Walk next door to Target for select items (tolietries, diapers, cat food, Target brand skim milk, frozen dinners) This may seem like a lot, but I enjoy it. I enjoy the market for so many reasons. The vendors know me and I always run into other people that I know. I also usually have my 4 yr old with me. Sometimes I also have the 2yr old as well.

This Saturday is the Brecksville consignment sale. My wife says this is the best one in the region. Nothing like getting stylish kids shoes for $1 that normally cost $35.

That's why I go to 117. You can park in one spot and shop at both GE and Target. I know the rubber mats that you speak of. I bought some from Target last summer. :)

You should take a look at the GE on 117th. It is huge and carries a wide variety of things. In regards to Steelyard--you don't shop at Target?? That is the cheapest place to find your frozen Kashi dinners. There is also a Target next to the 117 GE.

With the examples you give, I think you are describing the city of cleveland as if it is only the portion that is downtown. There are many neighborhoods within the city that have decent supermarkets, drugstores, etc. I understand what you are saying in regards to doctors, but there are great small libraries in Ohio City, Tremont, etc. While Dave's is small, the gigantic 24-hr Giant Eagle is just 5 minutes away. Additionally, Steelyard Commons is very close. I think that you are buying into the misconception that living in the city is less convenient than living in the suburbs.

I don't quite get your drift on this. Are you suggesting that if I send my kid to Ignatius for high school that I might as well must move out to Westlake? I think that there is a lot of value in raising a kid in Ohio City. If my son ends up going to Ignatius, I don't think that wipes out all the urban influences that his home neighborhood provides him.
