  1. I think the biggest difference is the layout. Now you can go between all the terminals without having to go through a separate security. It makes the airport feel bigger.

The Great Lakes Science Center is a fantastic place for kids. Because it is an interactive museum, you can just sit on a bench and watch your kids play and play and play.
  3. It would probably be better to go with apartment rather than condos at this point. I highly doubt the owners of 'Union Trust' would pursue condos as a residential alternative.
  4. I felt the same way. Why did Litt bother to write up that article. If he wanted to create discussion around closing the entire square, couldn't he have found some prominent local architect or planner to discuss the view.
  5. I'm assuming that the TC folks want to maintain some flexibility until the Casino plans are finalized. Once they are, I imagine that FCE will roll out an aggressive new retail strategy.

A couple of weeks ago, some people were worried that the Cavs were peaking too early. Silly people. Looks like it will take a couple of weeks for the Cavs to re-gel. The defense and the ball movement on offense has really fallen off over the past few games.
  7. I really wish that Big Fun's had decided to put its west side location in Gordon Square. Financially-speaking though, I think Big Fun made the right decision.
  8. I totally agree. I was relieved to see it wasn't the same old brick cliche. It's why I like the Jake too :) Thanks for all the great photos of the twin cities! I really dislike how some many of the new ballparks have gimicky icons beyond the outfield walls. So many of these new stadiums have this disney-esque look to them.
  9. It is hard to support some of these businesses. They sell a lot of stuff that I don't buy on a regular basis.
  10. Not a Crains member. Can you tell us which other (if any) businesses are mentioned?
  11. the exterior looks like an airport terminal.
  12. Thank you Mayday! I think that the colors turned out much better than how they looked in the renderings.

Does anyone know what happened to this ship? I believe it is named "The Goodtime". There is a kick-ass painting of Cleveland in the 1930s that shows this boat docked and full of people at the port of Cleveland. The painting is currently in the window of the Bonfoey Gallery on Euclid.

I always wondered where the Manistee goes. From my bedroom window, I see it load up with salt at least 2-3 times per week in the shipping season at the Cargill dock. C-Dawg, does it drop it off in Toledo? I always wondered where it takes all that salt.

I watch the Manistee and the Maumee dock a few times each week and then head out of port. I also see the Cuyahoga come into port, but not from from by house. http://www.boatnerd.com/news/newsthumbsb/images-09-4/Maumee-9-1-09-TS.jpg

Johio, I'm not sure how it is at OSU, but it is pretty easy to get through Cleveland State's urban planning grad school without any debt. Most full time students work as interns somewhere in Cleveland. The internships cover the cost of tuition and provide you with a 20-hour week job that pays $11 an hour.
  17. Could 'commercial' refer to retail?
  18. Nope. This will be the first one of these in the US.
  19. James Kuntsler seems quite a bit melodramatic.
  20. Lovely. Taken today I assume? ;)
  21. I'm very curious about the mixed-use project. I know that the student housing thing is a bit up in the air. I really like Dimit's work. I wish they'd snag more of the stuff that CA gets. I'd love to see what Dimit would have done with Battery Park.
  22. Urban Community has a waiting list and many people can't get their kids in there. The school has lost some of its funding and had to downsize a little bit. Some slots are kept for kids from families with lower incomes and who attend some of the local parishes. Additionally, there are many families who don't want to send their kids to a catholic school, or don't want to pay 6k for kindergarten. There are many young families that have moved to the burbs because there isn't a viable public/charter option.
  23. Discussions with a potential sponsor and operator have been very positive and are progressing.
  24. A large group of young parents who live in Ohio City and Detroit-Shoreway have decided to take matters into their own hands with the school issue. With the desire to retain and attract young families who normally seek non-CMSD educational alternatives to the near west side, the Near West School (charter) is being formed with the goal of opening in Sept 2011. The school would be based off of the nationally-acclaimed Intergenerational School model. Here is their website: http://nearwestschool.org/
  25. No, its not just you.
