Lonely Planet - Cities You Really Hate
Culturally, the South embraces sprawl. That makes it very difficult to discuss city planning in a logical fashion.

Cleveland: Cleveland Museum of Art Expansion / Renovation
^very good news.

If you had the resources, how would you improve Cleveland?
I'd do two things: 1. build/renovate some new office space along rail corridors in downtown, Ohio City and along the Healthline. 2. provide low interest loans to top-notch MBA students from around the country so that they could start new companies in Cleveland. The terms of the loan would maintain for myself a 51% interest in the company so that I could keep any successful new businesses in the City of Cleveland.

University of Cincinnati Bearcats Football Discussion
What is better for the city of Cincinnati? A top ten Bearcat football team or a top ten Bearcat basketball team? Which team is a bigger driver of economic activity for the city? It appears that the basketball team has dropped off the edge of the earth over the past few years.

^That's not what the Dike 14 preservationists are considering.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
^I've been present at closed-door meetings of the Dike 14 group. It is not a group that I want handling the future of Dike 14. That's all I can say.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Why is such bad news? The Dike 14 preservation group is not regarded as a group that has a balanced view on things. I'd hear the Port out on this one before rushing to judgment.

An hotel? At that location? The building is beautiful and huge. I'd love to see something good happen to it.

Has UC beaten any ranked teams this year? How tough is their schedule?

I think that they are raising funds separately for that sign.

Eastside Cleveland Salons
Laura Lee on Coventry gets a lot of very positive reviews. Personally, I like Salon Zen on West 25th in Ohio City (but that's on the near west side).

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I can deal with a lot of losses this year. I can deal with a stupid quarterback situation. I can deal with a coach who is not liked by his players. The thing that kills me is our draft. At this point, it looks like we made some major errors. If we are to have any hope, it would have to come from the notion that we have young talent that will develop. Granted, it is very early to judge a draft class. But to see Sanchez and Maualuga doing so well..to watch our 3 2nd round picks doing nothing..to know that we drafted two receivers and didn't address our defensive needs..

Cleveland: Downtown Aquarium
Maybe this will draw some people into the Flats, but I just don't imagine it being that great. Maybe it will be. I'm used to Mayor Jackson shying away from these sorts of things, so I'm a little surpirised that he's supporting it. Maybe the presentation that he's seen shows a project that will prove to be very appealing. Still, I don't like the location. I think some thing like this would work better if located near the GLSC. Additionally, I don't really like the idea of Cleveland pursuing a larger stand alone aquarium. There have been so many other aquariums that have come on line lately. Each time they get bigger and better. I'd rather see the region pour its resources into something more original and unique.

Cleveland: University Circle East Plaza
Unfortunately I'm only over there on Fridays..... Glad to hear there should be more seating next year. Maybe UCI should buy more furniture for Fridays only??

Cleveland: University Circle East Plaza
It should be complete by mid October. The image is not correct. The lighting element is not as extensive as CMG's image shows.

Congrats. Keep us in the loop! I don't envy you boys living in and working on the house at the same time. They are still in their apartment and won't move in until the house is complete.

With the tunnel connection from the Q to Tower City, it makes so much sense for Gilbert to want to put it behind Tower City.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I feel that it is going to take a while to fill Moda. It is set up for a club, but the neighborhood will not let it become one. It is hard to find a use for that sort of space. It will probably never be a theater again.

Do we know that it is proposed for Scranton Peninsula? It just says in the flats across from Quicken. Although if it was to be on the back of Tower City it would probably say that. And as of last week the location was undetermined. I agree Scranton wouldnt benefit downtown much if at all. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/09/mt-preview-71c3eaf9eb84919b4b9a102ff24de70e420d841d.html Here it says that it will be in the Flats.

^The gym decided to go into the 668 building. Besides one strip club, I don't know what you are talking about regarding the Flats. Regarding the sushi place, I've gathered that the focus will be put on the martinis for the first few months (with sushi available). If successful, the sushi will be made on site. Until then, the sushi will be brought in. Look for the Bier Markt owner to start work on the old Middle Eastern Foods location soon. It will be renovated and expanded. Additionally, the parking lot behind the WSM will have security and be open to patrons after Market hours. In about a year, the W25/Lorain corridor may have ambassadors similar to the DCA's in downtown. There is a lot of talk regarding a BID going on right now.

Detroit-Shoreway needs a deli/sandwich place.

Cleveland: Jack Cleveland Casino
I don't like that he is planning on putting it on Scranton Peninsula. This is just as isolated as the Detroit casinos--which he says have failed because they are isolated. This would create no spill-over into downtown at all. I originally backed his proposal, but now I'm pretty much against it. If it had been positioned well in downtown, i would support it.

Columbus Crew Discussion
How is the MLS doing economically? Will it survive? What is the average attendance for a Crew game?
