^I thought that they have some sort of agreement with the Botanical Garden to care for the land.

If they had fried asparagus like Parkview, then I'd be there in a flash.

Northeast Ohio: Regionalism News & Discussion
Gramarye, What would happen if Key moved to an office campus in Westlake. Then, Sherwin Williams move to Strongsville. Next, Forest City moved to Solon, Huntington moved to Brecksville, PNC moved to Mayfield. If this all happened, would you think that the sum change would be even for the region or would it have a detrimental effect on the region?

This stuff was never really in Zaremba's plans. I don't know where you would have gotten these thoughts.

There is actually a picture of them on the front page of the plain dealer this morning. They don't look to bacd, and definatley changed from the first rendering/massing that we saw. I don't see any difference. What has changed?

Cleveland: Downtown: Euclid & 9th Tower / Schofield Building Redevelopment
It'll be nice when/if this building is completely redone. We don't have too many tall, ornate brick buildings downtown. This could be a very nice addition to our architectural portfolio.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
If he doesn't graduate, those passing "skills" wont mean squat! I want the boy to get an education first, then be a athlete. How about he gets an education while being an athlete? :)

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Did they start construction? It appears as if they have cleared the land, but I haven't seen anything more. In a past article, it said that construction would begin on Sept 1.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
He doesn't like the plan because it means that the Port will move and take out most of the E.55 marina. Instead of it being mentioned at the end of the letter, he should disclose it immediately. It is hard to take him seriously when he puts his own self interests above those of greater Cleveland.

I pray he develops his passing skills.

K&D has been advertising the 668 building a lot on the Indians radio broadcasts lately.

Moving to DC
I wouldn't choose a location based upon the eventual job prospects of my kids. I'd think about the experience that your kids would have in grade school and high school. Once they go off to college, they become extremely mobile (especially if they study beyond the undergrad level).

Cleveland - Abandoned Abbey
Hasn't this building been slated for demo for a few years??? The new innerbelt bridge is going to go right through it. The owners have not reason to maintain it.

Scav, I wouldn't used Lakewood as a comparable model. You can easily find condos for sale on Lakewood's gold coast that cost $40,000. Granted, those units are very small and not updated. Still, it is a different product. As MayDay pointed out, you can't put high rises in this location because of the flight paths from Burke.

KC coming to Cleveland
^interesting. I lived in Memphis for three years and would never call the buildings "east coast". Also, Memphis is very sprawled. The one area of the city that was built in the street car era is much less dense than similarly-aged areas of the country.

http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2009/08/arcelormittal_says_it_is_resta.html ArcelorMittal to bring back hundreds of laid off steelworkers in Cleveland by Frank Bentayou/Plain Dealer Reporter Thursday August 06, 2009, 5:25 PM CLEVELAND, Ohio -- ArcelorMittal Cleveland said Thursday it is in the process of restarting a blast furnace and other operations at its steel complex near downtown. Some laid-off workers will be back on the job next week. The return to production of the company's C-5 blast furnace, a steel shop, hot mill, pickle line, tandem mill and galvanizing line at the East Side manufacturing and annealing plant is a result of improving market demand, said ArcelorMittal spokeswoman Mary Beth Holdford. Cleveland Guardians Discussion
They have drafted very poorly, but they seem to be able to identify talent in other club's systems pretty well. They have a done a pretty poor job of signing relief pitchers of the past few years. I wonder if 2005 set this team back a few years. It bought Shapiro some time--everyone was praising him as a genius because he plucked a few players out of the trash heap and they produced. Ever since Hafner broke his hand in late 2006, he hasn't been the same. He's better this year, but he costs a lot of money for what we're getting out of him.

KC coming to Cleveland
Great Lakes Brewery started out as just a brew pub. It now brews and bottles its beers across the street in an old brick warehouse. They're doing well--three shifts are busy each day. Free tours of this completely organic and green brewery are provided on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons/evenings. John D. Rockefeller had his first office on the second floor of the current brew pub. Elliot Ness used to frequent the bar in this building back when he was the safety director of Cleveland. Great Lakes Brewery is across the street from the West Side Market. Momocho is about three blocks away. The house where John Heisman was born is two blocks away from Great Lakes. An historical marker points out which house was his.

The Parthenon is not even made of stone. It is concrete. One of the weirdest sites that I've come across. Maybe they'll build a stonehenge next to it some day.

What is the nature of the rehab that you'll be doing? 400k for 30-40 houses is not very much per unit.

Cleveland: Port Authority News & Info
While Ed Hauser did a lot of good, I don't think that we should give so much deference to his views. I find that many of his arguments had a narrow perspective and did not recognize the greater good within some city issues. Ed had a passion that I really wish was more present in the citizens of this region, but his port-related views were often short-sighted in my opinion.
