  1. Oh c'mon, I bet they've got tons of pre-sales.
  2. Bier is very dramatic and very much the pessimist. He's correct on this one, but his delivery can be a little over the top.
  3. Tripspapa, Had you also considered a space in Ohio City at one point? I had heard that a Mentor-based operator had interest in putting a gym in the OC, but that a deal never came through.

There seems to have been a lot of Denver threads lately. While they have a lot of nice new urbanism, they really missed the boat with the architecture. That's pretty ugly stuff.
  5. have you guys thought about a Neighborhood Connections grant? http://www.neighborhoodgrants.org/
  6. I don't know anything. However, it is nice to see that the neighboring house is being renovated.
  7. While this thread is often geared towards "how what I love about Cleveland can impress outsiders", I love that I see so many of my fellow Ohio City residents out and about in the neighborhood. I have a young family and it is great to see so many other young families growing and staying in the neighborhood. On any given night in the summer, I can walk up to the park and see friends playing with their kids on the playground. Ditto for my Saturday trips to the west side market. There are many reasons why I love my city and this is just one reason why.

While the new construction housing is still a ways off (Pointe), work on the old hospital should begin in November. It will be renovated for senior housing with an emphasis on "active lifestyles". The entire project is called the St. Luke's campus. Currently, a new CMSD school and a new public library branch are being constructed on the old surface parking lots to the immediate east of the hospital. RTA has started the design work on a new rapid station (aiming for LEED cert.) that will replace the old E.116 station. Care was taken to integrate the entire campus into the neighborhood (as much as possible). The idea is that each of the individual projects will benefit from the proximity to each other. There will be new walkways that cut through the entire campus. The paths will make logical connections between the adjacent neighborhoods, school, library and the new entrance to the RTA station. In a later phase, the old St. Luke's auditorium (inside the old hospital) will be renovated and open to public use. The site plan includes pathways from the auditorium entrance that directly connect to the school, library, RTA stop and new housing. Lastly, there will be some very cool public art that will be distributed throughout the campus. Take a look at this website for more info: http://www.clevelandpublicart.org/projects/completed/saint-lukes-pointe PS the idea is that the for-sale housing component will re-initiate after the St. Luke's campus is completed. All financing has been lined up for the campus. The Campus and the Pointe are aiming for LEED-ND.
  9. I like to show off the view from Cliff Dr. This is just west of Edgewater Park and provides the best view of downtown IMHO. Lake View Cemetery West Side Market
  10. ^My wife's relatives in Texas got caught mis-using the handicapped tags. The cops busted her 22-yr old cousin as she parked in a handicapped spot next to the mall. She had stolen the tag from her grandmother.
  11. I'd worry about that if they were mounting scarecrows on the telephone poles. Scare birds don't seem quite as scary. :)
  12. Honestly, community gardens don't feel like strong economic drivers. I heard that they help create additional clerk positions in the Home Depot's garden section.

why would he want to drive to akron after home games, practice and when returning to Burke/Hopkins after road games?
  14. I believe that the arts center idea went by the wayside along time ago. CSU is focusing on the Allen Theater at this point.

The vast majority of West Park is very safe. I'm sure that the eastern-most portion of West Park has some occassional property crime.
  16. I think that the Lakewood strategy was very poor. They should start in the eastern portion of Lakewood on a street with many duplexes that is adjacent to a street with many single family homes (or on a street with a good mixture of both types of housing). In my opinion, people are moving away from the single-family owner-occupied homes partially because of the proximity to poorly-behaving tenants. Lakewood should try to buy in clusters so that they can 1. change the character of the street, and 2. stop the general decay that seems to be moving slowing west. Once an impact has been made on one street, move eastward and repeat.
  17. Its great to see large-scale apartment buildings move east down Euclid. 668 is a very important cog in our downtown. While we have some nice momentum just east of E.9th, we need to connect the Huron/Prospect triangle back across E.9th. If Ameritrust would have gone thru, downtown would have been sitting pretty. Still, 668 is so important in so many ways.
  18. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/designreview/drcagenda/2009/022009/index.php Ordinance to be Introduced: Loan to enable the phase 1 construction of a steel warehouse at 4610 Heidtman Parkway and the phase 2 re-use of buildings at 3193 Independence Road for Steel Warehouse of Ohio LLC.
  19. ^that's because there are volunteers that keep it clean. There's a guy who always paints over the graffiti too. It is well used and well cared for.
  20. The W.65th tunnel is very nice. I love all the mosaic artwork on the south side. Occassionally there is some broken glass. It is well-lit.

If you give us the time of day and the day of the week, it would help us to paint a picture of how typical the street atmosphere is for each location. For example if you visit the Ohio City condo on a Saturday morning or on a Sunday afternoon, you'll find two totally different experiences.
  22. ^from where are you moving?
  23. That looks like SimCity Cleveland.
  24. I think that this is the project that some small steel firm out of Indiana is building. It is not a huge thing--maybe 50 jobs. Family-run business sort of thing. I believe that this went in front of the City Planning Commission back around February 17,18 or 19.
  25. Yeah, but I'm glad that it and its inhabitants are not.
