  1. Weird, I feel like I'm in Tennessee again. You just don't hear about stuff like this in Cleveland.
  2. I heard that a prominent developer in town tried to save the building by offering to buy it from the Clinic. CCF wouldn't listen.
  3. It looks bad because they are still doing all the preliminary stuff. Looks as if they will start soon with replacing the sidewalks on the north side of the street.
  4. I'm glad to hear that a small school coach has spurned a big time program's offer. My alma mater (law) just lost its coach to Kentucky and I now hate Kentucky even more than I did before. Thanks coach Miller! How many starters are returning for Xavier next year?

^i also endorse western Lakewood. Take a drive around, look at the signs in the yards.

The Lakers have lost 6 out of the last 7 games against the Charlotte Bobcats. Crazy stuff. There is no reason to complain about the Cavs right now. I hope they can knock off the Magic in Orlando tonight.

^I run my full marathons in the fall. I can't get myself into running in the early morning in January and February. I hate treadmills. The half-marathon serves as a nice build up for the full marathon. It is also much easier. :)
  8. With respect, that's not even the case in my parents' subdivision. So why should it be more so in the region's preeminent cultural hub? The appearance of my parents' property is tightly controlled, by and for the community. If they wanted to move out and put a bank branch there, even a beautiful one, the answer would be a resounding no. In their particular case it's a deed restriction tied to a homeowners' association. Obviously this guy's deed is what it is, so that won't work here. But I don't believe solutions are as far outside our grasp as they're made out to be. That is a completely different legal situation. When a large swath of land is subdivided by one entity and deed restrictions are placed on the subdivided parcels, you can't get those removed unless all parties agree.
  9. Yes, and only a portion of Euclid has form-based zoning.

^I'm planning on running the half marathon.
  11. You don't have to worry about that. It will be surrounded by asphalt. ;) Unfortunately, I have heard that it will be a standard suburban-style bank branch.
  12. Look at the post immediately above your post.
  13. What was the point of the press conference? Let's just have the City sell the current convention center and Public Hall to FCE and then let FCE sell it to MMPI. Wouldn't that just be easier? ;)

It may not be their fault - where I used to work, the stairwell doors were locked (aka you could get IN the stairwell, but to get out you could only exit via the emergency door to the outside on the first floor). It was allegedly due to security and the insurance company for the building required it. Years before I worked there, someone was attacked by an intruder and they're guessing he got in via the stairwell. I used to work on the fifth floor, but had to go to the third every now and then. I was having a rather bad day when someone (I'm guessing new to the building) scoffed at me as I was getting off on the third, something along the lines of "like he couldn't just take the stairs". I turned around, stopped the door from closing and "You DO know that the stairwell doors are locked, right? If you want people to take the stairs - and believe me, I'd love to, go yell at building management - and from the looks of it, YOU could use a few trips up the steps as well!". You know that I'm better than that!! I'm taking examples from the office building where I've worked for the past three years. The stairwell doors don't lock. There is no mechanical reason that impedes one from taking the stairs.

What part of Scotland? My wife graduated from the University of Aberdeen and is now also in the medical field here in Cleveland.
  17. ^recruiting is the part that interests me. While Waters can put a quality team on the floor, we really need to improve recruiting. Butler is going to be very strong over the next two years at least. They are very young and we are graduating 4 starters. Cole will be a great one if he continues to improve over the next two years. It would be nice to grab a couple of quality JC transfers.
  18. That was a lot of fun last night.

I can't stand able-bodied people who interrupt my 7-story elevator ride just so that they can go up or down one floor. Take the stairs!
  20. The only thing about the above article is that it says the Clean Ohio money would go for acquisition and construction. It is only enough for acquisition. Finding the money to construct that thing is a much greater task.

We had the '85 maroon Celebrity wagon. Lovely automobile ;)

Seems like they could definitely get out of the contract due to impossibility of performance. The problem would be that the Browns would still be liable for the bonus. I'm not sure how that really works--we just have him a huge bonus last week. But now that I think about it, I think that Vick had to pay back a portion of his bonus. hmm, this ought to be interesting..
  23. While there is decent amount of open space, there isn't any well-planned open space. If there were at least a small quad that was surrounded by dorms that opened up to it, you would encourage more lively interaction. CSU needs some kids with frisbees and hacky-sacks who will enjoy hanging out on campus. I agree that we need more diverse uses on Euclid, but that is all part of the plan. CSU needs both if it wants to move towards a residential college that creates a lot of vibrant street life.
  24. I agree regarding the stadium. I think some open space would be a better decision.
  25. RnRoller, Be fair. Most people don't consider the Scranton side to be Tremont. That side is considered by most to be Clark-Metro. Additionally, the poster is talking about Tremont Place Lofts. In a place like that, you won't have issues with break-ins. If dealing with 3 break-ins were the norm for Tremont, it would not be the successful neighborhood that it is.
