Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
I've already been asked about it by some western suburbanites who use the shoreway. When I tell them that it is a 300-unit new housing development, they are floored.

Does anyone carry a weapon when downtown Cleveland?
Depends on the day. Sometimes I go with the baseball bat. Other days I wield the battle axe.

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
Well, the parade of drywall continues. They keep hauling it in by the ton-load every night around 5pm.

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
So, how do you just slip something like this into an article and not make a bigger deal about it?? http://blog.cleveland.com/medical/2009/02/clinic_continues_to_grow_despi.html Clinic continues to grow, despite recession, but will delay some construction Posted by Sarah Jane Tribble/Plain Dealer Reporter February 25, 2009 11:25AM The Cleveland Clinic is poised to continue to grow, despite a struggling economy, Dr. Delos "Toby" Cosgrove, president and CEO, said. The Cleveland Clinic's expanding operations, which have given it international reach and made it the region's largest employer, have positioned the health system to continue to grow even as the city's population declines and the nation endures a recession. Cosgrove The Clinic has forged relationships for new operations in Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi, completed construction on a new facility in West Palm Beach, and will soon announce the location of a national research laboratory that could employ 1,000 on its main campus in Cleveland....

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Look beyond the '4 road games in 5 nights' stretch. We've got 7 games over the next 10 days. We'll also be playing the Celtics the road during this stretch.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
If we can pick up Joe Smith through a buy out, I'll be feeling very good about our chances. I wonder if we could have pulled off the Mo deal without giving up Joe Smith..

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I had a great lunch at Marie's at 4502 St. Claire this week. What a great place! Please pardon this post if someone has already mentioned this locale on the first two pages of this thread. Great authentic place. If you like homemade sausage, this is a great place to dine. Additionally, the decore gloriously has not been updated in decades--I loved it!

Moving from Chicago to Cleveland in 3 weeks....Need Help!
^Lakewood would add at least ten minutes each way to this guy's commute. Keep that in mind. Also, I think that Evanston is much more upscale than Lakewood.

Moving from Chicago to Cleveland in 3 weeks....Need Help!
I've been in Ohio City for about three years and the best part about it has been the network of young and growing families that we've found. There are some active parent groups that have built up a lot of social capital. I'd recommend Ohio City. As a family, I wouldn't consider the warehouse district.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway: Battery Park
I'm wondering if they are permitted to do any landscaping. I'm sure that the condo agreement dictates that they can't make landscaping changes. I'd hope that they sort of vine is part of the overall landscaping plan.

Back on topic, please.

I also wish that the first floor was raised up a bit. It looks cheap when the front door is at the same level as the sidewalk.

I'm not sure why there is so much green space in front of the townhomes on Lorain. When did Lorain Ave ever have front lawns?

Detroit- New Center
I love Detroit. Seriously.

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
I'm very curious as to how the Prospect side will look. We don't have much historical clues to go on with this side.
-
Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
I go past the Prospect side every day after work. They've been hauling up drywall since before Christmas. I'm not sure why they choose 5:00 to drop off that stuff, but that's besides the point.

NYC: New Major League Stadiums
While the whole retro look is pretty pathetic, the new stadiums have tended to take advantage of urban locations and of site lines. I love watching the games where the outfield spills into a skyline or large body of water.

Cleveland: Retail News
Because its a business. They cannot afford to close during the day. This isn't 1950. Businesses like those in the westside market must be open even if it doesn't seem economical. Same with the chain stores in a shopping mall. I've often thought that WSM could have longer hours say to 7:30PM Mon - Fri, but someone spoke on how the vendors spend their time and select product and need certain hours. I hate to say this, but a few of our malls could close, we are over saturated. ETA: Also not just moms shop in the afternoon, teenagers are the biggest bridge of mall patronage between 3 PM and 6 PM. You close the mall, you lock out a huge target group on both sides of the dollar. Those spending and those working. The WSM's hours are the way they are because: -the tenants like it that way and refuse to change -many of the restaurants come early in the morning to pick up their food -it is managed by the City's Dept of Parks & Recreation and they specialize in cutting grass in city parks and emptying trash cans

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Holy cow. Ehh. It's good that thing has a goal and firms are lined up to organize it, but these firms don't really peak much interest in my opinion. However, it is a port development and not a mixed use type of project so I'll wait and see. For a project of this scale, what types of firms would you like to see?

NYC: New Major League Stadiums
I agree! Probably the best new ballpark in the nation ... Busch is pretty damn sweet too. You can't tell from this pic, but the lights have a cool old-school iron look: Beautiful brick entrance: I'm not a fan of the new stadiums trying to look as if they are old. There is something very fake about them.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
Agreed. Lets find the money somewhere. RTA is trying to find more money for this project, but it is not to add another headhouse. They are working with partners to find more money to do the following: jazz up the public plaza that will be built infront of the station entrance on Cedar; add more murals, better lighting and public art under and around the bridge; improve the design for the new greenspace that will replace the old bus loop.

Cleveland Rapid Rail Construction Projects (Non-Service Issues)
The southern headhouse was always an option, but they decided to scrap it after listening to the community stakeholder groups. RTA said that less than 5% (approximately) of the rail users are transfering to busses that go up into the the heights. If they had kept the second headhouse, we'd be hearing how bland the new station will look because RTA needed to sink so much cash into a second elevator.

Cleveland: Little Italy: Development and News
I heard that the Coltman townhomes should be going up soon. I'm not sure how they are phasing the development, but i do know that they have sold at least one unit.
