  1. The mixed-use building was just a drawing that an architectural firm put out there. It was never really in RTA's plans. Additionally, the new covered bus station was not feasible. The southern headhouse was eliminated from the plans because it would have added $4 million more to the project (total project budget is something like $8 or $12 million). An elevator would have been necessary at each side of Cedar to qualify for federal funding. If they had built on the southern side, then the architectural quality on the northern side would have been very poor. A much improved and widened sidewalk will connect the new bus station with the headhouse. They are also planning on improving the lighting and adding public art/murals underneath the bridges.

Check out the 27Coltman project in Little Italy. They look very similar. They also remind me of the 4-unit townhome project completed in Tremont about 2 years ago.
  3. Pete, Everything that you talk about is currently being worked on. How's that for an answer? I can elaborate later, but I need to go and do the dishes.

1.5 hours----------?? I use the shoreway a lot and that is not my experience at all. Now on the really bad weather days, it is backed up--but so are all the other highways in town.
  5. let's keep it on topic...
  6. Regarding the Exhibit Builders project: it will have about 67 market-rate rental apartments split between the Exhibit Builders and the old CMHA HQ building. Work has already started on the charter school space on the first floor of the CMHA HQ building. Originally, the developer wanted to include some subsidized units, but OCNW was able to dissuade him from going that route.
  7. There is a chance that the construction timeline could be moved up by 6-12 months depending on the stimulus package.
  8. There are a lot of people who share your opinion in OC. So... WTF? Does the city/county have no interest in cultivating OC as a prime area? A private developer is behind the project.

  10. As part of this project, the old bus loop will be torn up and the area will be landscaped. There will be a new bus stop area on the north side next to the rail and adjacent to the Case buildings. This will be a dramatic improvement both aesthetically and functionally.
  11. The architect is a native of Iran and lives in LA. http://www.yazdanistudio.com/
  12. ^Something between Section 8 and market rate.

Chagrin Falls is a very wealthy area and home to some of Cleveland's elite. It is also the home to Bill Watterson of Calvin & Hobbes.
  14. The Cleveland Foundation should be thanked for this. They provided guidance and gave money so that RTA could hire a quality architect.

I heard that the Clean Ohio grant was awarded for the east bank trail connector. The grant enables ParkWorks and the Trust for Public land to buy the abandoned rail corridor between Whiskey Island and the Hope Memorial bridge. Raising money to construct the scale is the next step.

I don't doubt what you're saying, but that picture is nothing special.
  17. ^Nope, its not the rock library. I've heard about this project, but only some vague details.

I think that it would be really difficult for someone to be an effective mayor if he or she hasn't had any experience with city politics.
  19. is this the spot where the old orange bowl used to be located?
  20. Oh don't worry, the neighborhood won't even see the new stadium. They've barricaded it off by surrounding it with parking garages. Generally-speaking, I like the new ball parks. But this one really looks like crap. I understand why they need a retractable dome in south Florida. The dome-less stadium that they currently use is a big reason why they have such low attendance. But why do they have to make is so ugly?? Why not try to make this part of the neighborhood instead of putting garages on all sides?? Consolidate the garages, create some sort of plaza that feeds into a stretch of retail. It is not like it hasn't been done well already in many other cities... Oh, thank god we didn't build that dome stadium back in the mid 80s...
  21. It appears to be totally out of context with its neighborhood. It is also very ugly.
  22. ^I was thinking the same regarding the windows. I would love to have some new wood windows in my house. My floors are 139 years old and are still pretty good. I always heard that builders did not insulate homes very well back in the day because the energy costs were so low that it didn't make sense to spend more money on insulation.
  23. I don't think that it is fair to say that we are building things cheaper. Back in the day, it was not as expensive to hire stone masons to do the work that they did. Stone material and the labor involved was relatively much cheaper.
  24. ^Why is Forest City interested in the Opportunity Corridor?
  25. This may be a personal opinion...I work with the Buckeye area and I don't associate it with Shaker Square. I know that that they are contiguous, but they are different worlds. Even though Buckeye's crime rate has dropped dramatically from the 90s, it still has a very different feel than SS's.
