Actually, it was a group of residents who requested through the councilman that the mayor meet up with them in order to discuss an issue.
  2. Maybe by not selling it to Weston, Stark can hinder a large competitor and keep its hundreds of units from hitting the market before nuCLEus opens its doors.
  3. I think that project should go in the Which Project Should Be Last and Why thread.
  4. Heck yeah. Took me a second to realize this wasn't a teardown. It is a tear down.
  5. I worry about this as well. I don't know about you guys, but it looks like there is some ground floor retail in the garage portion of the building, at least it appears that way in the North to South view.. If so, that'd be excellent for the district to add in some boutique shops/restaurants for the theater goers to spend their fortunes at. I agree. Other than the interior stairway on the western edge of the garage and the bay to its immediate east, the majority of the first floor appears to have some sort of use in it.
  6. If the plan is to use the parking garage facade as a place to advertise upcoming shows, that will be awfully overwhelming. I found the Wicked banners to be very distracting. That facade will be a huge detail to address going forward.
  7. ^it'd also be nice if they included the new student housing at e.18th in the Euclid ave rendering.
  8. Are they also planning to amend S-W's corporate charter that requires their HQ to be within 1 mile of 601 Canal Road, where the company was founded in 1866? Or put the Valspar subsidiary HQ outside of downtown? Did RE Developer in Training delete his post or did he post in another thread? That would be horrible news if SW left downtown. If it meant saving millions of dollars, i'm sure the shareholders would amend the corporate charter to remove the 1-mile radius restriction. that said, i'm not completely up to date on all that goes into amending corporate charters.
  9. ^^yikes, it looks like a moderate breeze would blow the siding off of that school. What a disappointment!
  10. I'm all for in-fill, but why do developers keep hiring the LDA to do this work?! This substandard level of design will stand out in 5-10 years in an unfortunate way.
  11. this image is from a past attempt to renovate and expand this property. That project fell through and the building/land was sold to another entity. But from what i understand, the new project will also include an addition.
  12. renovation, addition. hotel.
  13. Designers "blown away" by potential of Irishtown Bend park as planning begins http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2017/04/planners_kick_off_plans_for_ir.html#incart_river_home_pop
  14. from franklin to i-90, the border is w.52nd. from franklin to detroit, it is w.48th. max hayes is d-s. lakeview is in the oc. duck island is not.

Ron O'Leary is an exceptional choice for this job. He'll have to run for the position in the fall, but he is universally respected and will have a lot people eager to back him. He understands housing issues, is raising his family in the city, and is fair, level-headed and very smart.
  16. ^just a technicality--this is in Detroit Shoreway. North of Franklin, the west side of 48th is in D-S and is not in a landmarks district.
  17. I doubt that developers would pay $49 million to stabilize the hillside.

Sort of a waste of an article. All it is trying to do is get people to write lots of comments.
  19. There are lots of mixed-use projects under construction or in the planning stages for Ohio City. While the building+parking lot is not what I'd build if I could start from scratch, i also don't mind this use. It keeps things real in the OC and provides services for the non micro brew crowd. This corner is well served by RTA bus routes and is well connected to Clark-Fulton neighborhood. I'm just glad there isn't a huge, double lane drive-thru going in.
  20. FYI The name of this trail is the Lake Link Trail (aka Cleveland Foundation Centennial Trail-Lake Link). Lakefront Bikeway Connector
  21. i thought that the soup place just opened up in past two months. With the Souper Market just across the street, I'm not surprised if they didn't fair well.
  22. Could CC have held the proverbial OC gun to Cleveland leaders' heads as a condition to remaining in Fairfax? I have no direct knowledge of this, but it wouldn't surprise me. No way. That Heart Institute cost $500 million to build in 2005 dollars. The new medical school buildings is over $300 milion. The cost to rebuild the campus in any suburban location would cost many billions of dollars.
  23. Very close, but the subway portion was to be limited to Tower City-Playhouse Square. East of Playhouse Square, the rail line would have operated at-grade in the median of Euclid Avenue, similar to how the HealthLine operates today. Each older versions of the plan had more of the rail line in subway, with the oldest plans in the 1920s being all-subway. Some of the 1970s and 1980s plans had roughly a third of the rail line in subway, another third at-grade, and the other third elevated. BTW, today is the eighth anniversary of the HealthLine opening. New buses are needed. The original ones are getting a little raggedy. Yep, and as most transit planners would likely agree, even an at-surface LRT line from PHS to Stokes-Windermere would attract considerably more riders than the current HL as well as encourage higher-density development along the cooridor... As I've said before, someday Cleveland may bite the bullet and convert the HL to LRT... someday. With the older plans that had the subway going out further than Playhouse Square, would the subway portion go underneath the innerbelt (at Euclid Ave between 24th and 30th)?
  24. This is called the Lake Link Trail.
  25. First that I've heard of this-- Food Co-op Apartments at 11702 Euclid Ave. It was just submitted to the design review database. Obviously this section of Euclid is ripe for large, dense residential projects. Maybe it'll be on this week's CPC/DR agenda.
