Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Sounds like a very good trade. We need a scorer who can create his own shot. He's got a great field-goal and FT percentage. And he's a point guard. Nice move by Ferry.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
The two starting corners are very solid and improving. After that, we've got nothing. The o-line is great. I don't know what Marado is complaining about.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly close to acquiring guard Mo Williams from Milwaukee Posted by Mary Schmitt Boyer, Plain Dealer August 13, 2008 15:46PM The Cavaliers apparently are about to pull off a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks to obtain point guard Mo Williams. Various media outlets, including ohio.com, newsok.com and ESPN.com, have reported that the Cavs are part of a six-player deal involving Milwaukee and Oklahoma City, although neither the Cavs nor the Bucks would confirm the deal. The Cavs would get Williams from the Bucks in exchange for forward Joe Smith and guard Damon Jones and their expiring contracts. The Bucks would send Smith and forward Desmond Mason to Oklahoma City, which would send point guard Luke Ridnour and swingman Adrian Griffin to the Bucks. Columbus hosting the Olympics? Is it possible?
I get stuck in details when I think about the Olympics. The summer olympics need a huge track and field venue. NFL stadiums are not set up to fit a standard-sized track. So, do you build another $500 million facility that will only be used for three weeks? What do you after that? I remember Chicago proposing a "temporary" stadium. I don't remember how feasible that actually was. While the prestige and tourist dollars would be fantastic, you'd have to make some long term infrastructure choices that wouldn't necessarily benefit you in the long run.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
^aren't the club owners still in jail? I'd assume that their lease was voided due to the illegal activity. I know that the landlord has been shopping the building around, but he's asking more than market value.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
^here's the link to that story http://www.wkyc.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=94596 This is what gets me about the local tv news. They'll include a blip like that in their stories. That would be big news, but i don't think they get it. It is as if they don't understand the magnitude of what they are saying. If the Eaton thing is true, then that should be in the headline because it is news.

Good to see that Maron has started cleaning the facade of the bank building. That stone desperately needed attention.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
^I listen to Mike & Mike. M Golic mentioned last week that Bob had lost 150lbs. They were going to film a commercial together for Nutrisystems or whatever the name of that diet company is called. (I know that is not Bob in the above picture)

All I can say is don't use Bulldog Movers. Horrible.

Cleveland: Urban Gardens & Farms
Cleveland update: There has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes to create a citywide vacant land strategy. This would be multi-pronged effort. One of the prongs would be urban farming.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I think that Litt loses some legitimacy with this critique. He over-emphasizes or misrepresents some of the smaller points in order to make a case against the project as a whole. I just want to know whose apartment on E.4th is going to have a walkway straight to the Arcade.

Running / Jogging Thread
Once you get over that 13 mile hump, it is like the endurance never leaves you. If I stop training for a few months, it is not very hard to run a 10-miler after a week of 3 or 4 jogs.

Cleveland: Immigration News & Discussion
Eparabola, Interesting to hear what you have to say. My wife is a CCF physician and her department is very friendly towards international residents. Maybe that is because it is about 80% international and 20% US born.

Just set a goal. It is not hard. I had never run over 6 miles before I decided to train for a marathon. Now I'm on my third.

Lakewood: Development and News
It can be tough to make new construction rentals financially viable. You'll need very high rents and Lakewood probably isn't the place for that now.

Cleveland: Immigration News & Discussion
^ClevelandRocks, I kind of get the feeling that you just read the Creative Class or a Jane Jacobs book and are trying to apply it to Cleveland. Your points are valid, but reflect a lack of knowledge of the efforts that are ongoing in this city. There are many things that are happening that never get much or any press. I remember before I came back to Cleveland and got into urban planning--I had so many "great ideas that were not being implemented in Cleveland". I'm here now and meet and talk with people everyday who are working to make this city a better place. Believe me, there are a lot of good ideas and well-intended people. It is just much more complicated than having a few good ideas.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Stark went to Landmarks about a month ago. That is a very positive sign. Still, a lot has to happen.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
^The walkways would never happen. What the h*ll are those guys thinking?? Some of it doesn't even make sense--connect TC to E.4th over Euclid??? Not going to happen. Spend those millions on finding a better use for the current convention center site. I wish that he'd release more images of FCE's designs of the CC. The main convention space is spread out over two floors--that is the worst part of this plan. Too many details are left undescribed at this point. HQ hotel? I'm glad that TCE will not be increasing its retail offerings. We don't need more retail buried in this mall. Improve what you have and then let the excess demand spill into the WHD and onto Euclid and Prospect.

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
1. can you blame them? The site prep and the environmental clean up costs must be huge for Scranton Peninsula. The density and price points necessary to make a profit on a SP project are probably not realistic at this point. When downtown begins to lose its surface lots to new residential, then you'll see such a project make economic sense for a developer. Too many people think that FCE is some sort of non-profit that should do whatever the public wishes. Corporations don't work that way. The directors would get sued and they'd all lose their jobs. 2. this is the second time that you said that it scares you that an architect has not been hired yet. Do you think that one should have been hired at this point? I think that it is premature. Once the site is finalized, then they'll going to start on design work. 3. amen

Your Daily Commute
If I didn't have to go to meetings all over Cleveland on a daily basis, I would ride the bus 1.5 miles to my office each day.
