NE Ohio: University Hospitals Developments (Non-University Circle)
^That struck me as odd as well. I guess they have a lot of retirement facilities out there?

Cleveland: Population Trends
I went to high school at Ignatius and that experience greatly fueled my appreciation for Cleveland (I know that the same is true for Map Boy). I wish that kids had things other than Indians' games to help create an affinity for downtown.

Cleveland: Ohio City vs. Downtown, reverse commute and car safety
Parking safety in Ohio City can vary. If you have a garage, then you'll have no worries. If you park on certain streets and don't leave a GPS device or a cell phone in the plain view, then you should be ok. Still, auto theft can be an issue. In the OC, it can be a street by street issue. Some parts of the neighborhood have a lot of problems and other parts have no problems at all. By the way, I live in Ohio City. Reverse commuting is pretty easy. You should have no issues at all. By the way, there are a number of places in Ohio City that have parking. What kind of housing unit are you looking for?

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
The heading on the image only says "prospective tenants". I think that these are the guys who he'd like to have. I highly doubt we are going to see a Whole Foods as part of this project.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
Wow, I can't believe that a month has past since someone touched this thread. Looks like Stark is going to Landmarks with some massings for his project. Glad to see that he's finally taking the first step with this project. Looks like he's not going to build on the entire superblock right away. http://planning.city.cleveland.oh.us/landmark/agenda/photo/071008/index.php

I don't think any of us will be missing that building.... What are they going to do with that site once the bookstore is moved??? Do you suffer from short-term reading comprehension loss?

Cleveland: Downtown: The Avenue District
i thought it was sold for a dollar as well, which is one of the reasons the development went there as opposed to on a parking lot in the warehouse district (for example) which would have added a couple of million to the cost. plus, the city has a land bank where they are selling properties for 1 to 100 dollars in some neighborhoods. how does that work? I remember differently. I figured that the City was going to sell it cheaply, but I was surprised when I heard that it was in the million-dollar range. Landbank--maybe the city can sell if for such a cheap amount because the value of the land combined with back taxes equals out to be about zero. ??

Cleveland: Downtown: Convention Center Atrium & Expansion
I'd like to see St. Clair tunneled underneath the Mall with a cap on top of it. It appears that there is some sort of crest in the topography between St. Clair and Lakeside--which diminishes the view shed of any "united mall" plan.

They are supposed to go on the area where the current bookstore is located.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
A few months ago, they scaled the hours back and started closing at 3. It is very difficult to survive as a place that only serves lunch. On the bright side, they seem to be hinting that they are scouting out a new location that will bring them more business.

University Circle (Cleveland) accessibility
Any sense how faithful to the Studio Techne plan (which I think is totally awesome) City Architecture's design will have to be (assuming City Arch is approved)? Do you know if Studio Techne threw its hat in the ring for the design contract or if they were ineligible because of there master planning contract? This project is high stakes! StudioTechne's plan was very modern and cool. CA is not very good at that sort of thing.

http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2008/07/a_possible_future_of_playhouse.html A possible future of PlayhouseSquare's Allen Theatre: A showcase for the best of Northeast Ohio's college theater Posted by dpolveri July 02, 2008 21:58PM A central rotunda dominates the inner-lobby of PlayhouseSquare's 1921 Allen Theatre. Roaring '20s movie palace. Pot-hazy '70s rock dive. Eighties wrecking-ball bait. Restored jewel, 1998. Largely empty since. That's a capsule history of PlayhouseSquare's Allen Theatre. Here's a possible future: A 21st-century showcase for the best college drama from Northeast Ohio's major centers of higher education. Another draw for downtown Cleveland's ongoing attempts at revitalization...

Marina District: East Toledo looks to capitalize on riverfront plans Dillin proposal would merge new with old on Front Street June 29, 2008 By IGNAZIO MESSINA BLADE STAFF WRITER Front Street in East Toledo has long been regarded as the dusty and cracked access road to factories, truck depots, and dirty coal docks. The faded asphalt stretch running north-south parallel to the Maumee River cuts along some of the cheapest residential real estate in the city even with the waterfront just a stone's throw away. For years, residents of the Garfield neighborhood, a working-class part of the city that envelops Waite High School, listened to trucks roar by and breathed in fumes and ash. After decades of industrial use, the 125 acres between Front and the river was way too valuable to stay gritty. It is now the site of the proposed $320 million Marina District development. The World Skyline Photo Trivia Thread
^M2S, Earlier today, i had tried to upload a picture of Panama City when it was my turn. It was too big and I'm too stupid to know how to figure out how to make it smaller. Needless to say, great minds think alike. :)

Cleveland: Random Development and News
1. Getting suburbanites downtown is only part of the goal. No one says that is the one and only goal. You are taking things out of context. 2. There are a lot of suburbanites and exurbanites who come downtown for sporting events. Many do not go to the Lola's and the Saigons for various reasons. if a Cadillac Ranch can capture part of the market that is currently slipping away, then it could be a good thing for downtown.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
Exactly. If done well, the entire building could be a powerful draw for the area. As is, I can see it sort of leaching off the energy of the well-planned areas around it. I'm sure that Maron has turned down some similar businesses for E.4th. He can't be thrilled that some cheap establishment is going to piggy back off of his hard work. I feel that this will dilute things.
