  1. I would say that Public Square in Cleveland is the only true "skyscraper" district in the state.
  2. I think that you are confusing design and urban planning issues.

Actually, I think that it is one of the best. Have you seen it from all sides in person? I usually side with older architecture more and yes, I also received the CDM tour ... all 12-freakin-hours of it! lol Too lazy, but what year was it built? There's nothing wrong with me not liking it, I just don't. If you think I'm being biased here, I'll say Atrium I and II in DT Cincy look like ass too, fair enough? ;) No no no. I hate the comparison stuff. You included a flicker link that showed only the backside of the building. So, I figured that is all you know about the building. I've debated the architectural merits of this building with a friend of mine lately, so debate is on my mind. I also think that my friend knows nothing about good architecture and thinks that everything must be beaux arts. ;) I love the large cornice and the bronze statue, the odd angles and the general play between the older surroundings and the newer elements.

    ink, Are you Inkaelin?
  5. What a cookie-cutter design that building is. Who designs a building with a window-less brick wall facing the lake??

The OC's main stretch is pretty dead on Sundays. There is a secondary cbd for the OC--the intersections of Fulton, Bridge and 32nd. Take a look at Ohio City on a Saturday afternoon and you'll leave with a much different feeling.

  8. I saw a stat in today's PD print edition that we have had 39 murders so far this year. At this time last year, we had 53.
  9. Corbo's moved to an adjacent building that they had already owned. They put up a new sign and now their old space is for rent (but I thought that I some some permits posted in the windows).
  10. ^or Crocker Park's long-rumored boutique hotel. sigh.
  11. Deals with tenants don't occur overnight. K&D would not invest so much time and effort into this project unless they had very positive conversations with prospective tenants. With the tone of everything at the moment, I feel pretty confident about K&D's chances of landing an office tenant.
  12. From cleveland.com CITY DEVELOPMENT CLEVELAND DEVELOPMENT Our ambassador to the world Monday, June 09, 2008 Robert L. Smith Plain Dealer Reporter San Jose, Costa Rica -- From mountain farms so high and misty that Costa Ricans call them "cloud forests" come the coffee beans that Walter Casas pours into his roasters in the valley below. At the end of a rainy afternoon, he stooped to sip spoonfuls of steaming coffee from glass after glass, testing the day's brew. 13. He has the option and has about 5 more months to complete the purchase. Once he signs the major office tenant, I'd assume he'd have the financing available to make the purchase.
  14. Alright, one nice-sized office tenant ant this project should be well on its way. This should also help Eli Mann with his project (hello Mr. Mann, where are you?).
  15. ^Cleveland already has a wind turbine downtown on the waterfront next to the Great Lakes Science Center, to the immediate east of Cleveland Browns Stadium and just north of the Burnham Malls. It is big, but not quite as big as one of those.
  16. I have an old stone walkway along side my house that I'd like to repair. I don't have a driveway (our garage faces the alley), so this serves as our pathway to the front gate. The pathway is made up of the old sidewalk stone that you find in Cleveland and the inner ring suburbs. What is the name of his kind of stone and where can I find it?
  17. From the sounds of it, he's just saying it as a possibility. I'd highly doubt that we'd see someone large moving in.

^$23 million per year. --and he gets hurt all the time.
  19. Strangebrew, By "soon", do you mean in a week, a month, two months??
  20. ^That is why I wouldn't want a 60-story tower on Public Square. I'd like to put it in Playhouse Square. Stretch things out and don't concentrate all the tall towers in one area.
  21. MTS, does your building participate in any sort of home tour? I'd love to see those 25-ft ceilings and the 4k sq ft condos.

He's from Bexley. Went to high school there and then on to Kenyon College. Nice smart guy as of 12 years ago.

Does Josh Radnor (lead guy on 'How I met your mother') get any press in Columbus? He lived next door to me my freshman year at college and I partied with the guy all the time.
  24. Performing arts can be a very difficult field. My theater type in-law cousins think of Cleveland as sort of a midwest mecca for theater. But when growing cities like Miami and Columbus lose their orchestras, it should be somewhat of a wake up call. We have a severe "grass is always greener" mentality in Cleveland. That is not to say things are rosy here, but I just think that many people who do not find success here much too readily place blame upon the City and not upon themselves. It is the easy thing to do. Upon returning to Cleveland, I found an ideal job almost immediately. Additionally, my non-native wife thinks Cleveland is a professional heaven (Cleveland Clinic). We've had very good experiences so far.
