Cleveland Metroparks Zoo
i agree. What will they be saying in 30-40 years?? "They couldn't carve out a few extra thousand dollars to save a work by a twentieth-century master". Ridiculous. Now that I have a young son, I've rediscovered the zoo over the past few months. When I saw that VS has a signature below these two relief sculptures, i was floored. They are very cool and add a lot of value to the zoo experience. We need the the PD and the Sun (hint hint, KJP) to blow the whistle on this.

Cleveland Area - Help Us Find A Home
here are my two cents.. I live in Ohio City and am currently taking off two weeks to stay home with a newborn and our 2.5 yr old. I have been very encouraged by the amount of young moms walking around the neighborhood with strollers during the day. A lot of young moms putting the jogging strollers to work. I'm not saying that you should or should not feel comfortable, but just that a lot of young moms do feel comfortable.

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
i heard that the homes that Civic Builders will build on W.45th (five of them) will start around $120k. I don't know if I really trust my source on this one.

Cleveland: Little Italy: Development and News
With tax abatement and reduced rate financing, a resident with a partner who makes a comparable salary would be able to afford the $250,000 range.

Cleveland: Case Western Reserve University News & Info
I don't think that building sustainability was on anyone's mind back when the Baker building was constructed. From the looks of it, it didn't look very efficient.

Cleveland: Case Western Reserve University News & Info
I don't understand the reference to $2...billion. Is that the size of the endowment? I think that the subtraction of Baker is a great plus for the campus.

Cleveland: CWRU West Quad Project
Why? I think that would be great! ;) I wonder how they are going situate it on the site.

Cleveland: Wendy Park this evening
Those are some great pictures. At this time of year, it seems that the lake is hazy because the heat is causing a lot of steam on the lake. I love that I can see the lake from my backyard!!

First off, I would suggest that you look into Ohio City. Ohio City is a "urban ying" to Tremont's "urban yang". 1. False, true, false and true. Tremont has a lot more going on. Asiatown is sleepier, but is growing. From what I hear, crime is slow in Asiatown. However the streets are quiet and vacant at night, and that can give you an unsettling feeling at times. There is a lot going on in Tremont. A lot. Personally, I would move to Tremont. You really need to visit and see how you feel on a Saturday afternoon and on a Saturday evening. 2. Are you from Detroit? It is difficult to give suggestions until we know what you are used to. Generally, I would suggest Tremont and Ohio City to Cleveland newcomers before i would suggest Asiatown. 3. www.clv-lofts.com

^KJP, any word on when the streetscape program will break ground? I think that I heard that the theater project will break ground before the streetscape will.

Cleveland Area TOD Discussion
Agreed. The first fou redline stations going east from TC should addressed first! If TOD housing units would sell, they would sell most quickly at W.25th, Cedar Hill and Mayfield (new station). In a city with economic challenges, we need to build off of our strengths. These stations are where I would concentrate my efforts. I think we would have a very hard time concincing people to buy TOD housing units at E. 33rd, E. 55th, E. 79th and E. 105. If TOD succeeds at W.25 et al, the other station areas would be an easier sell.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
^^yep, Circle 118 is the townhouse project that we've been talking about.
-
Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
^yes, at the corner of Euclid and E.118. This development, if it sells well, should really help UARD. Currently, the intersection feels very decrepit and abandoned. I'd love to see that dialysis building be torn down and replaced with something mixed use.

Living in Downtown Cleveland
^I have never seen the penthouses. Design and layout-wise, what are their challenges? I'd assume that they'd sell if they were desireable. Are they over-priced?
-
Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
^With the price points being better in this area of Cleveland, I think that we should be nit-picky.

Cleveland Area TOD Discussion
^not sure if this is surprising or not, but RTA does contract with an organization to clean up the trench areas of the tracks during the summers. It is amazing how much trash is removed. I can only imagine how things would look if the trash removal were not performed.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
^I think that the blue looks faded. The other pictures I have seen provide closer views. It sort of reminds me of the new Fries & Schuele town homes. The living room/great room loses so much light because it is indented while the bedrooms above it come out to the sidewalk.

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
Does anyone else think that the colors look very dated. ..as if they have already faded. In other renderings that I have seen (which are more detailed), the blue doesn't look very nice and I wonder how it will look in 10 years. I also question why the top floor hangs over the first floor so much. Why would you block out so much light from the great room? I do like that they are modern-looking, but I think that the design should be tweeked. I love that they would put townhomes at this location. It is fantastic to create such an entryway to UC.

^Is Winnipeg similar to Cleveland in that it has a bunch of inner ring suburbs? I'm not familiar with the make up of Canadian cities.

Living in Downtown Cleveland
Did the reporter get the wrong info? Last we heard, the developer had combined some units so that the total would only sum to 22. If 19 of 22 are sold, that is really good news for Mr. Howells.
